Larry (hal9000i) I recently read Getting Acquainted with the Trees by J. Horace McFarland, a book written in 1904, and loved it! Not scientific at all, just a pleasant ramble through the world of trees, and I was wondering what other such books are out there.
I have quite a few on my shelf and am reading The Secret Life of Trees by Colin Tudge.
I also made a blog entry regarding such books that I have read or that I own:

Valerie (1superkawaii) | 2 comments Let's not forget The Giving Tree. There are many ways to perceive this simple book but since this is in the Green Group you can view it as the planet giving and giving as is in it's nature until there is nothing left to give because man has taken so much.

Larry (hal9000i) What is this book, the Giving Tree about Valerie?

message 4: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (1superkawaii) | 2 comments Well it's a children's book. You should read it if you haven't, It's about a tree who loves a boy and the tree gives the boy everything until it's a stump.

Larry (hal9000i) yes I have that book Julia, as well as the earlier Meetings with Remarkable Trees. But i was looking for suggestions of old out of print books on trees really.

message 10: by Julia (new)

Julia (juliastrimer) Oh, I didn't know that from your post. Good luck.

Lynnm | 923 comments Maybe we should just rename the thread, Books on Trees, because I would like to hear about books on trees both old and new.

Julia (juliastrimer) I second that idea--trees are one of the wonderful connecting links across time.

Julia (juliastrimer) Tree Army A Pictorial History of the Civilian Conservation Corps 1933-1943 by Stan Cohen Tree Army: A Pictorial History of the Civilian Conservation Corps 1933-1943

"A very interesting account of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the U.S. government in the 1930's, this book is chock full of intriguing photographs of the camps and the workers. Few people
today are familiar with this story, yet it should be known to all Americans."
