Laura (matgala) | 5 comments Hi!

Has anyone started reading Rendezvous with Rama?

It was in my "to read" list, and when I saw that the group would be reading it in December, I thought that it was a good moment to read it!

But it's already 7 December, and there is no comment about the book.

I will start reading it in a week or so.

Tasha I read it when I was a kid. I loved it. I might re-read it so I can join the discussion.

Clyde (wishamc) Read it back in 1974 and then again about 10 years later. Great book. A classic.

Tasha It shows the struggle between curiosity of the unknown and fear of the unknown.

Kelly (crankyoldgamer) | 3 comments A great example of classic SF. Clarke has a knack for writing about strange, and wonderful space faring species. He can make them just different enough to make us feel the wonder but not so different that we can't comprehend the possibilities.

Laura (matgala) | 5 comments I have started reading it this morning. It seems good (I have only read a few pages).

Kevin Milligan | 54 comments I read it last summer. It was awesome and I give the style of his ending an A. I wont ruin it just yet but I found it very unique.

Laura (matgala) | 5 comments I finished it some days ago. I think that this is one of the best sci-fi books I have never read.

Does anyone has read Rama II and the following? Are they as good as this one?

Kevin Milligan | 54 comments @Laura....I have failed myself now...is there sequels?

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 9 comments Rendezvous With Rama is a book about wonder and mystery and I have been in love with it for some time. I then read Rama II and was completely left cold. It starts by going back on all the advances humanity has made and is full of unlikeable people. Yes, some of the mysteries are explained, but it was clearly to be the middle book of a trilogy and I rather liked the fact that very little was explained in the original. I never bothered with the third one at all.

Laura (matgala) | 5 comments @Kevin, there are other 3 books: Rama II, The Garden of Rama and Rama Revealed.

Thanks, Darren. It's the same I have been told. I think I would read it myself, but I don't expect another good book...

Simos | 4 comments A book that has a reputation as being one of the best examples of science fiction literature. I finished it today and unfortunately I can only say that it is just nice.
I liked the use of scientific estimations like velocity , acceleration etc.
The author didn't just throw numbers, he properly calculated them.
But the plot was thin.

Allan Harle Read this as a kid & again a few years ago, enjoyed them both times. One of his best books.
