So lots of people helped with this project and I think now is the time to thank and introduce them.

First there is line editor and Basawar conjugation expert, J.D. EveryHope. Next in line we have galley proofing operatives Alan and Michael. (This picture was taken at Yaoi-Con this year. Aren't they adorable?) And finally, Lia, whom many of you are already acquainted with, relentlessly uploaded all information about this book to this site, and many others. (She even made me give her the right ISBNs and dates and such.) Thank you all!

JD EveryHope

Next up on our list are Gavin J. Grant and Michael J. DeLuca of Weightlessbooks.com who not only engineered an entire delivery system to make the Rifter possible, but converted all the ebook files as well.

Thank youse!

Here we have a... um... picture of our long-suffering illustrator & typesetter, my beautiful wife, Dawn Kimberling. Why she have these candles on her head? I do not know. I do not question. I simply admire.

This is not my beautiful wife

Here is a photograph of Ginn Hale interviewing a goat in Amura'taye. (She was tireless in her research.)

I really hope that this is the year you get your front two teeth for Christmas!

But seriously, I owe a huge debt to all these people. Thank you all so much!

They're a wonderful, talented group--and you wouldn't believe the ribbing I got from all of them for deleting a completed manuscript!

Oh, BTW, I edited these posts to add author links cause 1--I just learned how and 2--I realized that it might be interesting. So many people in publishing wear many hats: author, editor, web guru... costumed avenger... :D

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) you were just too darn cute!!! all the photos are great! the book has been an incredible reading journey - thanks so much. All of you! Especially (I assume) the goat..inside knowledge is always crucial :-D

Your tastes are a bit particular... Along my cycling road to the city centre there is a little garden where someone keeps minigoats. I pass them almost every day: they smell awfully!

Lia, you know how to please a goat-loving writer! I'm so glad I wasn't drinking when I saw this pic!

The billy goats do tend to "anoint" their faces with their own urine to attract and entice the lady-goats.

I'm so glad that as a species, we humans don't generally find pee-face unbearably attractive.

You have just helped me toward my next dorky Rifter related comic. I must now come up with a bit about goat farming. @,@ Thanks.

message 17: by Ginn (new)

Ginn Hale (ginnhale) | 477 comments Should I mention that Fikiri's name actually means little goat?(Fik- means goat and the 'iri' sufix denotes a diminutive) It was a joke to myself that he was a "kid"...

And now I've just revealed what a huge nerd I am, haven't I?

Well, at the time it seemed like the only sensible thing to do.
My antique 'computer'--we're talking a typewriter with a floppy disc nailed to the back-- didn't have enough memory to save any new writing so long as I had The Rifter files filling it up. I knew that The Rifter was too long to be published so I deleted it and got to work on Lord of the White Hell.

So when Nicole started talking to me about publishing The Rifter as a serial I was smiling and nodding and silently swearing at myself.

I have since gotten a "new" computer but members of my writing group still often greet me by asking if I've deleted any good stories lately! :D

I assume you're talking about me? Well, I will be photogenic once Santa stops holding out and gives me those teeth he promised so long ago. I mean look at my profile pic? Am I smiling? No. And there is a good reason.

Then again we really don't know if anybody has front teeth, do we... 'cept J.D.

Interestingly enough, J.D. used to be a real live model. She does really take a swell picture.

No, I meant my archaic Macintosh Plus...Wait A Minute? Are you implying that my SE is out of date now too?

...no. Not in any way. You just use whatever tools you have to use to get the job done.

Whoo! Come on over and see us sometime, Barb. We'll have a grand 'ol time! :D

message 32: by Barb (new)

Barb Gilmour (barblikesbooks) A few of us are planning on going to Albuquerque next year, and as we will already be in America it would be crazy to not squeeze Y-con in too :-) at the minute I am reading and loving Teahouse manga - Whitney got me a whole new addiction :-)

message 33: by Ginn (new)

Ginn Hale (ginnhale) | 477 comments I'd be thrilled to see both of you there--I obviously already owe Em-nat a burger and I'd be glad to provide one for you as well Barb...

I'm not sure of the exact dates but the first print versions of the Rifter might be going on pre-sale there as well.

I'm pretty sure that can be done...

If you ordered from blind eye books and added a note about requesting an autograph I bet Nicole would be happy to hand the books over to me at Yaoi-con and have me sign before she shipped them off.

I've heard some rumors that the con may be moving down to LA. Y-con is staying pretty mum about it though. X.x

I think it will be moving. At least the guys I talked to at Akadot seemed pretty certain. But you're right, there hasn't been any official word.

(Totally off topic here but I thought I should mention that Sasaharu--the guy running Akadot--is F'n Cool.)

I have no idea what Akadot is! D: Have I been in my Nerd Cave too long!?

Ah, it's a sad thing to hear about Y-con moving, especially since I only recently escaped southern California. Now they want me to go back!

Ginn Hale (ginnhale) | 477 comments Em-nat wrote: "I have no idea what Akadot is! D: Have I been in my Nerd Cave too long!? ..."

Akadot is the major retailer for many of the yaoi titles. Sasaharu has been organizing groups of translators, editors and artists to help to bring in and publish more yaoi titles.
(At the 2011 yaoi-con Akadot was in the upstairs dealers room across from Jo Chen.)
