Gary Tenuta (code9) | 2 comments I was browsing books in a used bookstore and happened upon a biography of the notorious British occultist from the late-l8th/early-20th century, Aleister Crowley.

I knew a little about him already. I knew, for example that the British press had branded him as "The Wickedest Man In The World" and I knew that he referred to himself as "The Beast". And I knew that a lot of "Heavy Metal" bands were really into him. What I didn't know, until I picked up that book, was that he was cremated upon his death and the urn containing his ashes was sent to a man in America who then buried it under a tree on his own property. Sometime later, he went to dig it up and found it missing. The whereabouts of the urn has remained a mystery all these years.

Well, I thought, Wow! If that's not a great premise for an occult mystery novel I don't know what is! I had to write it because... well, c'mon. How could I not? I mean it was simply too good to ignore. An idea like that doesn't get dropped in your lap every day.

I immediately started sketching out some story ideas and eventually it evolved into an occult crime thriller that spans several generations, beginning with the burial of the urn in 1947, and brings the reader, through some remarkable twists of fate, to the present day when a series of bizarre killings are occurring and the prime suspect is the leader of a "Death Metal" band.

It took me nearly 3 years to write it but at least now the mystery of the vanishing urn has finally been solved. :-)
