I was chatting with the babysitter after I got home last night (she's 15) and I was asking her if she had a boyfriend. She said yes and she'll show me a picture. So she hands me the phone and there is this picture he's texted her of him with his shirt off in the mirror and OH MY LORD. I was like "uhhhhh...wow!" She goes: "isn't he good looking?" I had to admit he sure the fuck was! Oh my goodness he was like a God. But he's only 16! Why doesn't he look like a little kid to me?!?! I'm sick! I refrained from saying "Can I see that again?" But it took everything I had.

Wow.... you turning into that creepy old lady that harrass little boys!! And it will never surface cuz nobody ever complains about those!

I must say, I find this all rather amusing. It reminds me of the recent Abercrombie & Fitch controversy here. The store just opened in Singapore, and the conservative right went into frothing conniptions about a large poster of a topless male in the store front along the main shopping drag and hence highly visible to impressionable kids and teens. Not to mention all that topless man flesh in the store when the store opened. You can't believe the level of moral anxiety it has aroused here.

If the context was, oh, here we are at the beach or by the lake or oh here he/she is playing basketball (where it so happens then that the shirt is off, and if female, in some tank top, strappy thing) would anyone here even remotely find this an issue? So where's the difference? Or if a boy showed his grandfather or father or older brother a picture of his girlfriend in a bikini, would anyone even comment on it? This is not a stranger that the girl is showing the photo to. I assume that smetchie and the girl must have a relationship of sufficient trust for smetchie to leave the girl alone with her kids (i.e., smetchie's not some random cougar).

You think so? There's definitely a double standard but the whole thing is unfair. There is a universe of difference between finding a kid attractive and actually doing something inappropriate. I'm all for protecting kids. I promise you. But some of it goes way too far.
