Kimberly | 2033 comments Well I've seen this thread in several of my groups and with permission from the mods I thought I'd set up one in this group.

I figure it'll be a great way to discuss the books we've recently borrowed and about our libraries in general. Though I do warn you a thread like this one is the reason why my TBR pile ballooned to 6,500 books!

message 2: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments I'm glad you started the thread, Kimberly.

Members don't need permission to start new threads. We encourage it! This is your community and if there's a topic you wish to discuss, start a new thread.

Have fun with the discussion about what you've borrowed from the library.

I have to admit shame in that my community has a brand new beautiful library, and I have yet to go visit it. One of these days... :)

message 3: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Thanks Janice, I wasnt sure abou the starting new threads in several of my groups starting new threads without permission is highly discouraged.

message 4: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I like the looks of The Watery Part of the World by Michael Parker . I've added it to my TBR list. I love historicsal fiction. I'm going to go see if my library has a copy right now :)

message 5: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments They have it!!!
I'm going to try to resis putting it on hold for a few days, but only time will tell if I can actually do it.

message 6: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I brought home these holds the last time I was at the library:

message 7: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Kimberly, and I am curious about what you think of The Watery Part of the World.

I am jealous of you and your library!

message 8: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I'll let you know Chrissie! I love my library, here in Toronto we have the largest library network in the world.

Wow! That is a lot of books!

message 10: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments LOL I have 41 books out from the library right now :) I go several times a week.

message 11: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments Wow! Do they have a limit on how many you can borrow at one time?

I added The Watery Part of the World to my wishlist. It looks very interesting.

As I was driving to work this morning, I realized that the new library is only a couple of blocks from me new office. Shame on me!

message 12: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments We can have 50 items out but since I use my fiances csrd sometimes that can go to 100 plus if I use his card I can borrow 10 extra ebook/e-audiobooks online from the library on top of mine and we can have 60 items on hold each.

Thats awesome that the new library is by you Janice :)

Kat (katzombie) | 2478 comments I've got library envy!

Maybe I need to do a small shopping spree to make myself feel better.....

Last time I used a library the limit was 10 books, and I could only keep them for 7 days!

The small town library I use near my cottage has a limit of 4 books for 7 days. Here we have some books that are only 7 day loners called "Best Bets" that are copies of new and popular books that aren't holdable or renewable.

That is so wonderful.

message 17: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I couldn't list all the books I bring home, but for example this is one that was on display that I brought home without reading GR reviews first: The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore.

I'm interested in all the projects to teach apes language and what the results of those have to say about the differences and similarities of apes and humans, and this might be a fictionalized exploration of some of those ideas. We'll see!

I'd love to have a limit like that. I live about a 15-20 minute walk from my library and a 3 minute drive so thats why I go so much, however I do have a tendency to accumulate fines. Unfortunately the library's fines are going up as of January 3rd :( They're going to be so expensive!

message 20: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (paperrdolls) | 122 comments Judy wrote: "Wow, 250! I can't imagine why anyone would have that many checked out unless they were doing research. Any ideas?"

Childrens books.. We blow threw them i could see someone going a little crazy

message 21: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I just checked my library account to see how many holds I have to pick up today since I haven't gone in a week, and I have 8 right now but have 3 more in transit, I'm trying to decide if I bum a ride off my mother today or tomorrow to pick them up but I'll probably end up going today.

message 22: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) I haven't been to the library in a long time because I went on a Nook spree, but I went there the other day and got

I love Penny Jordan!

message 32: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59873 comments Catherine's reading for Christmas holidays reminds me of one Christmas. I was sitting beside the Christmas tree, engrossed in a book. My mom startled me when she sharply called out to me. I had picked off all the needles on the branch closest to me. Hehe!

I think we all do the same.. it usually takes me till I'm done with the theme to realize I had a phase.. although right now I am completely aware I'm in a YA phase..

message 34: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments I'm usually always aware lol.

I used to steal them off my moms bookshelf when I was younger and I still go back and read her when I'm feeling nostalgic. I hope you like it :)

message 37: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 2033 comments Oooh I like that idea Judy :)

message 38: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Btw, I am *so* glad I spied The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore at the library. It's huge (by my standards at least), but I read 1/2 of it one night (when I was supposed to be sleeping, but oh well).

A little like Flowers for Algernon, but with more science and romance and heartbreak and gorgeous language. Story-telling that immerses one in the chimp's world, heightened sense of smell and all. Lots of provocative issues, exploring what it means to be human, what kinds of experiments are justified, how it works to do science, etc.

message 39: by Alison (new)

Alison Forde | 269 comments A High Wind in Jamaica for the Roughing it theme in January.

message 40: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I've been thinking about reading that, Alison. Is it a sign that it was recommended by Alison Lurie?

I am about 1/2 way through and loving it. But, you must understand something about me -- I am a sucker for time travel. I have never read anything by Stephen King before.
