So let's start with our 2012 goals. I can't believe how fast 2011 passed my by. So my goal last year of 50 books apparently was too lofty. I guess I will have to lower it some. I want to read 25 books and hopefully I will blow it out of the water. What is your goals this year?

Also I realized I didn't make the bookshelves open for everyone and I will do that so if you want to add to the groups bookshelf, please do.

Missy

Dar B (ruminatingbulls) | 121 comments My goal last year was 28 books and I just began my 25th (and I know it will be my last), so I am maintaining my goal of 28. I'm not raising it because I just had bilateral total knee replacement and I know that I will be more physically active with my family, instead of reading much more.

Bilateral total knee? God bless you. I see the reasoning of having them done at the same time but that is miserable for awhile.

Dar B (ruminatingbulls) | 121 comments I was miserable for the first two weeks but progressed fast. I quit using my walker completely by the 5th week. It has been 7 weeks ago today and the only things that bug me are that my scars are itchy and sensitive and my knees pop a lot. My pain is gone!!! ...except when I overdo it when I get cocky- LOL

message 5: by Tricia (new)

Tricia | 74 comments I set my goal this year at 45 books. Last year's goal was 50 books and I managed 52. I am working on my bachelor's degree this year, have joined a gym, and will be returning to work soon, so I am not even sure that I will reach 45. Best of luck to everybody!

Sounds like a busy year you have planned. I had to lower my goal this year too but not because of my personal schedule but because of my kids schedule.

I don't even want to think about my son's schedule yet, lol. He will be five next week and we are talking about t-ball or some other sport for him later in the year (and I suppose kindergarten in the fall). I figure it will all work out, it's early yet so hopefully I will be able to get in some "good reads" lol.

Rather than set a goal, I'd like to just keep track of how many books I read this year. I have never kept a list before,so thought it would be interesting to see how many I can read in one year .
Thank you -

My kids schedule is crazy. With 3 of them, I am forever waiting at a practice or at an appointment. I got the nook tablet for Christmas so I keep it with me and read a little here and there. It adds up juts might take me a little longer to read one book.

Hi Missy
I have the Kindle. How do you like the Nook ? I've heard some great reviews about it .There's one thing I'd like about it that the Kindle doesn't have -- the back-up light doohickey,so it is like reading on the computer, right ?
I know they say it's harder on your eyes to do that, but how many hours per day to a lot of us stare at a computer screen ?
Anyhow, I like my Kindle otherwise. No other complaints with it,and it is handy to have with you when you go places .

My husband keeps talking about getting me some type of e-reader but I keep resisting. I am a huge sucker for bound books and just love the weight of them. Perhaps someday I'll give in.

Yes, I understand completely . It is hard to get used to an ereader after always having paper books. I like books the best myself, but decided to try this year and use my Kindle more since I have had it almost a year and not used it much at all . I have some really good books on it,so I need to read them or it was a waste to buy them .
Whatever you like best is fine . As long as we get to read ,that's the main point . :)

Love my nook. It has the option to change the screen for night time reading so the background is dark and the letters are white. Big difference when I am trying to read while my husband sleeps.

I like the convenience of having all my books in one place and not ever losing my place. I also have apps of games I can play. I am currently in 3 different scrabble games right now. LOL Also I don't have to deal with the clutter, returning back to the library, and if I am out somewhere I can just download the book without going to the store. That is the part that gets me into trouble. I buy them faster than I can read them LOL

Yep,that night-time reading screen sounds like just what I need . My husband always says he can sleep with the lights on so I can still read, but i'd rather not do that .I think the night-time reader thing would be better .
Also you said the magic word- CLUTTER . I really dislike clutter of any kind ,so it is nice to have all the books in a single spot. I agree too about the library when you have to return books in a certain time frame ,although it is handy now that our libraries are set up to offer some of their books for Kindles .
So, I guess it's everyone's own decision about what they like best .I do need to refrain from buying books .If I buy one, then i'm on a roll and can't stop .Before I know it, there are 10,then 50,then 100 ...
So that is one of this year's resolutions I guess you'd say . To stay out of bookstores completely .
Now,the Amazon Kindle site ... that may not be quite as easy .

Brooke | 16 comments This year my reading goal is to just read as much as I can. Last year I read 24/7 but then I stopped completely and I'm not going to do that this year. So far I've already read 7 books and I'm half way through my 8th.

message 17: by Dar B (new)

Dar B (ruminatingbulls) | 121 comments Wow Brooke! I go through phases, too, and can go for weeks or months without reading. I think that's normal. When I was a kid, I was even more sporatic mostly due to sports and band. It's okay to stop; at least you do read. I know that your mom is pretty proud of that!

Hello and Happy New Year

I joined this group Dec. 2010 - I had a goal to read 32 books with cupcakes on the cover - however the one book I did read with a cupcake on the cover was a romance - I was hooked I read 51 books in 2011. I have to say WOW I had no idea.

Nonetheless I have returned to school at the age of 52 again I have to say WOW I had no idea time goes by fast, especially when you look back at it. This year I will be focusing on finishing school.

The books I will be reading will include Human Biology (6th edition), Psychology (10th edition), Culture & Values (VII - 7th edition), Thinking Through the Past (V1). Honestly I hope to include a few romance books in my reading.

I have several J.D. Robb books to finish reading along with some cross stich projects, a few unfinished baby quilts need completeing, the bathroom needs painting, training for the Sedona Marathon is begining, and the search for the perfect cupcake receipe continues.

Happy Reading to Every Reader in this Group.

Thanks Missy for creating the group :)
