Ok. Need more ppl, first. But my inspiration comes from my friends and the people i meet, even if i rarely write a piece of a story! XD

Kasay (Kasay_Bee) Mine is my imagination XD Plus you do give me wonderful ideas!!

lol. My imagination, also! :P

And the same to you, Kasay! XD :P (though i can't write stories! XD ;) )

message 5: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany M | 16 comments I have three main inspirations for writing. 1. Things I'd like to read but haven't seen. 2. Things I have read, but think "how would I have written that type of storyline?" 3. Boredome. The things I come up with just to entertain myself often find their way into full-fledged stories.

If I have a really good idea that I want to get out there basically. If I have an idea and want to experiment and try something with it. I'm a storyteller and want to tell stories.

Telling stories can be fun, as long as you have a vague idea of what u r telling about. Experimenting is fun, too. Helps you do different things! :D

I always have a story to tell. They just create themselves in my brain. Just looking at a piece of paper there are so many stories on that paper. What kind of tree was it? Or was it many trees crushed together? What worlds could exist on its surface?

message 11: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
A thousand worlds of different kinds, i think. But there is always the ever-present questions on the brain; is it a cool world, or a lame one? Is it reality, or is it fantasy not? These are some of my questions i wonder.
My answer: Everything yet absolutely nothing.

message 12: by Jonathan , The Wise (new)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 457 comments Mod
But sometimes it is fun to explore those questions a little. But an interesting concept does not make a great story. An interesting concept told well makes a great story.

message 13: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
Exactly. I can never tell a story with my mouth, so i just write it down. (even though i suck at coming up with well-told things. And all the ideas i come up with have already been done, too.)

I don't mind about coming up with something new. But rather reworking old ideas into a new original format. I love playing with myths and archetypes and working them around as you saw in my short story.

Anyone else have any inspirational stories to tell us? Any inspiring authors you look up to? :)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) | 457 comments Mod
Well I could add that C.S.Lewis and J.R.R Tolkien's novels inspired me to write in the first place. And then it became Shakespeare, Chekhov, Wilde and Poe who were inspiring me to write plays and short stories.

:P this is the story of how i came up with ilca:

i was in Israel at a family's friend's house (my mum's childhood besty) and on tv with percy jackson! unfortunatley we only got there in time for the part how percy geos all water monstour on Luke. We were sleeping over. and in the place near wher i live is a shopping center and there i spend a few times in Dymocks. I started reading the graphic nivel (this was about a few month/weeks before i went to izzy) and then i read paragraph 1 in the acual book (i didn't really read all of the graphic novel only up to the bus) . anyway. i was drawn in immidiatley. only got uyup to end of chpt 1...in israel again after i watched part of the movie i asked for pjo in hebrew so i can practise heb with a book i like alrread. BUt it was the 3rd book.

that night, when everyone was asleep i think it was 10 or 11pm i woke up 'cause i had a bit of a cold and i couldn't sleep. She i took a notepad (sorry mum's friend i stole it..and ur pen :P ) anyway. i wrote 2 chapters of it. originallly it was called Elementum. when i read back on it like...now...i see how stupid it was...but one thing led t another and BAM the kinmgdom og ilca was on its way to be published ^)^

T. Johnston My children and my dreams help me write. Sometimes movies and music will also help me. SOmetime just something little can give me an idea so I keep a small book around to write in when the idea may hit.

That's a good idea. That way, you won't miss out on anything. :)

message 29: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I dream about the weirdest things, i used to look at them as nightmares but now I wake up thinking wow, that's an excellent idea for a book.

message 30: by T. (new)

T. Johnston IT helps you to sort out what can make a short story or a full book. I am working on right now. I wrote it once but I felt that it wasn't just right so I have started rewriting it and I like it so much better now. But it helps when I try to look at things in a new light. That is why I keep notes and ideas in a different book.

A journal, eh? That sounds like a good idea! Get two people writing a story together.. More likely to be awesome stories. :)
What are your stories about?

message 38: by Robb (new)

Robb Bridson Basically story fragments pop up while trying to go through everyday life. It's hard to concentrate on anything.
Most of them don't make sense as a story, and what I'm working on is actually something built out of a bunch of messy fragments.

Tiffany (tcanders) Robb wrote: "Intrusive thoughts, mostly."

Love it!

For me - it's movies in my head that don't go away until they are in words. I just flat out daydream too much :)

Hard to concentrate, eh? Sounds like you are distracted by all the plots and points.

:) It's just what it feels like!
I suppose, to be more specific, it's more like movie trailers. You know, the exciting parts of the movie that make you want to see it, but you have no idea what it is really about. So then the hard part is coming up with that whole plot thing between the snippets of excitement.

Indeed, indeed. I've never thought about it in exactly that respect, but now that you've put it that way I find it quite true for even most of my ideas. Especially with Fantasy. What do you write by the way?

message 47: by Robb (new)

Robb Bridson I agree with that movie trailer assessment.
Part of the reason my rough draft is going so, so very bad is that I haven't really filled out the amount of time that's supposed to go by in Part One. It's just something I have to go back to later.
I'm no expert on finishing, but I get the sense it's better to keep going than to get bogged down plotting out uninspired scenes. By the time the whole rough draft's done, there's so much to change that any uninspired scenes will probably be useless anyway.

message 48: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
It can't be as bad as you mean by the two 'so''s you put in. :)

A draft's a draft!

message 49: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tcanders) Julius wrote: "... What do you write by the way?"

Mostly fantasy with a mix of sci fi and/or horror now and then.
I really love world building :)

As do I. Hard work it is, but there's nothing quite so wonderous as taking a journey into a world of one's own creation.
