Someone asked me about whether the female vampires are fertile or not. I honestly can't recall any female vamps. I know that Emma is fertile, but it's because she was born and not made. I know that the male vamps become Blooded when they meet their Brides. Does anyone know how it works for made female vampires? Are there any in the Lore?

Thanks.

Alexa | 62 comments Hi Lady D!
I think it would be interesting to see the story of a female vampire - if there are any, and maybe in Lothaire's book and the new KC series The Dacians we might get a chance to.

According to Cole, Demestriu had slain all the female vampires to prevent the males from finding their Brides 'cause instead of making war they made love (plus, there was an issue of whom to drink for dinner -Bride or foe?- but I like the first explanation better).

So, we really have no clue about female vamps fertility unless KC throws some light on this case. I don't remember any mentioning of a female made vampire in the IAD series. Made ones were not that frequent in the Lore except for the case of Forebearers who were all products of Kristoff. It would be very very interesting to read about a female one, too, and see if there's any "blooding" going on or something totally different to the reaction male vamps have.

Emma's fertility had to do more with the fact that she was half a valkyrie and followed the fertility "cycle" of their species - she had to consume food in order to ovulate - than the idea of her being a born vampire. I guess we might have to wait just a little longer to answer this one. Perhaps until Lothaire, since KC admitted that his story would be an encyclopedia of the Lore, so I have high hopes this day will come soon...

LOL, the more I deal with this series the more I fall in love with it all over again!

Thanks so much, Alexa. You pretty much confirmed what I had thought. I will pass this onto the GRs friend who asked.

I love this series. So many possibilities!

Alexa | 62 comments From Lothaire, taken from the book of Lore...

The Vampires...
Each adult male seeks his Bride, his eternal wife, and walks as the living dead until he finds her...

So I guess the blooding does not apply for female vamps...
I just started Lothaire. My toes are tingling, my heart sped up and I 'll retire from goodreads until I have it ravished down to the very last word... LOL

12% into Lothaire:
Female vampires could only be born - never made. Though vampiric blood could potentially transform human males into vampires, a mortal female like Elizabeth would never survive the turning.

So no made female vampires whatsoever. Yet. ;)

Thanks for the info, Alexa. I guess we were right about female vamps being rare.

Alexa | 62 comments No problem!

LOL, I'm jet-lagged, tired, sleepy, at the office and no matter how much coffee I 've had it stopped working for some time now, but I ain't putting the Kindle down.
Lothaire just refuses to give me up! X)

Alexa | 62 comments Update from Lothaire about the female vampires...

Apparently, those killed by Demestriu were females in the Horde ranks.
And before their extermination by the former Horde king, there was a plague that eradicated the female vamp population in general.
Dacia females survived because of the hidden status of their kingdom.

So I guess in the new series to come Shadow's Claim (Realm of Blood and Mist, #1) by Kresley Cole , we'll get more info about their situation, and hopefully about vampire babies. ;)

Got to admit I thought that the vampire females (and males actually) followed the don't eat don't have babies, but eat of the earth and breed like rabbits rule. Because Helen (Emma's mum) had Demestriu eating food as well.
