Hey, my name is Phoebe, and i was wondering what you guys out there are, with a choice between being only a writer, not a reader, or the other way around! ^.^

You can also be both, if u do both equally, more or less.

Anyway, i am a reader, not a writer, how about you guys?

I am both. Honest as it goes. I am, as I state so many times to anybody who cares to ask, currently engaged in the harrowing task of writing my first novel. I aim to get it published, it is not simply a game for me (though I've had great fun writing it!). However, my desire to write would have never come about had I not also enjoyed reading. Both are two of my most favorite hobbies.

'esire'? Don't you mean 'desire'? :P
Most people have to enjoy reading to write, otherwise the story may not be as entertaining as one might think. Publishing a book sounds especially hard to do, from the ways you guys talk about it. But it must be satisfying to have a book published, though. All the hard work one puts into a story paying off. :)

message 4: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I am definitely both. I love to read, but I love to write. And yes, the road to publishing is very time consuming journey, with many obstacles to face & a great deal of learning - but it's a journey that I have loved to go on & I wouldn't have got through it without devouring so many books on the way.

I keep telling my friend she should publish one day. Like, when she's old enough, lol. :P
But she has stopped writing my favourite story by her. And i wanna know the ending! :(

message 6: by Kelly (new)

Kelly That's the worst. She has to finish it. If she doesn't owe it to herself, she owes it to you at least... LOL

I know right! I mean, she KNEW i was hooked on that story. She just KNEW. And she never continued it! DX D:
Yeah, she DOES owe me that much. Particularly the end....

Both of course. I was a reader before I was a writer however. I've been a reader ever since I was 6.

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
wow.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I became a big-time reader in 2nd grade when i read the Harry Potter series. I read it again in 3rd grade. I've read about 5 series since then.

I'm also a writer but between dance, my boarding school, and basketball i hardly have time to write.

message 11: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
Well, it's nice to read a series, and once-in-a-while to write a story, even if it's only a couple sentences long! :P

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha ive never read a short series and my books i write are usually at least 10pg

message 13: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (last edited May 19, 2012 04:35AM) (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
Same! But I'm starting to get into the habit of writing, so maybe that at-least-ten-pages-long will change into a chapter-or-two, hopefully! :D

I love long series. I devour them 'quicker than a beever does wood', to use my friends words.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Ya i luv reading & writing i'd never be able to choose just one. Would u?

message 15: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
Never. I enjoy them too much! I especially like the ones that are really long in a series but are good reads, too. Never the same plotline, words, or covers! :)

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes. What are some books/series you've read?

message 17: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (last edited May 19, 2012 04:46AM) (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
Well, where would one start with such a wonderous world of books around us? A good series is the Riyria Revelations. I've already read them, but I'm re-reading them again because they're excillent! The Hunchback Assignments and the Skulduggery Pleasant series are good, equally solid fiction reads, too.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Hmm...i've read all fanasy series...

message 19: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
Really? Got any recomends? I'm in need of some more books to read. I'm lucky if i can find a book in my library that i HAVEN'T read. I don't seem to have much luck with that. O.o

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Well...Avalon: Web of Magic was one of my fave series.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm kind of both, I read a lot, but I also write sometimes, but I never really let anyone read my writings. :)

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha same here until it's published.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't published any of my writings...mostly because I never seem to finish them...maybe I will some day...:)

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

If u do can i get a first copy? lolz

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Sure. :D LOL

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Yay! ;P

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

:D

One thing that I'm writing on Goodreads is called Coco's Law (based on a show called Garrow's Law, except with Crash Bandicoot characters), maybe I'll finally finish writing it one day. XD

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Cool!

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm writing a book called: The Unlucky Penny. Maybe one day i'll finish it.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm also going to eventually write a story about Opa-Opa (from a game called Fantasy Zone).

Can you tell I play way to many video games XD.

I'm also writing a Warrior Cats story with characters that I came up with.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Cool! I'm not a big fan of Video Games...

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I have more stories that I half wrote that aren't based on video games....I've just been to slack to put them on goodreads. :)

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha im only writing one.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm writing about 20 at the same time, XD

I should stop writing so many so I can focus on just one.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

Ya...

Yeah, that sounds a bit hard to juggle! :D

message 37: by Peg (new)

Peg (pegrobarchek) | 15 comments I'm an avid reader who has also written & published more than 35 books. I'm here because the only thing I like more than writing is helping other writers. I included more details on my background under "Introductions."

It's interesting to see if other people are more into the reading, or if they are more interested in the writing part. :)

message 39: by Zoe (new)

Zoe | 30 comments I am a reader all the way!!!!! I would love to write, someday... maybe. I like writing but I get bored really quickly from all the technical stuff like using the right punctuation and sentence structure, I wish I could just put all my ideas into a big machine and then it would pump out the finished product just as I imagined it!!

What a great idea, Zoe. Invent that one and you'll make a million. :)

message 41: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I'd buy it!

Peg (pegrobarchek) | 15 comments Kelly wrote: "I'd buy it!"

Me, too, Kelly. And a bazillion other writers.

Roald Dahl wrote a brilliant short story about a machine that could do just that as I recall. I loved the idea in his story and the way he explored it.

message 44: by Jayne (new)

Jayne | 5 comments Definitely both. In my opinion, you really can't be a writer and not be a reader. I love being both. There's nothing more satisfying and pleasing that writing something you are proud of or of curling up with a good book...and you learn so much by doing both.

message 45: by Phoebe, TheInvincibleRabbit (new)

Phoebe (theneveronlinechick) | 3313 comments Mod
By doing both, you expand your imagination to reach into the depths that before you couldn't even begin to achieve to imagine.

@ Zoe: Wish there was actually such a machine. But then again, why would you pass up brainstorming your own stories with no machinery involved in creating it? :)
