Marialyce Certainly Bella is happy. She truly loves both John and her father. What a lovely lunch they all had together followed by a not so lovely dinner. I have to laugh at Lavvy and the way she takes no nonsense from her mother.

Eugene still seems ever so haughty especially his behaviour at the Veneerings. Interesting that they discuss living above one's means when most of them seem to do so. It also seems like everyone owes someone something, I wonder when they will find out the Fledgeby is behind all of this lending and has zero compassion for anyone? Mrs. L seems to have his number however.

Sometimes while reading some of Dickens, it seems almost as if it were a play with directions of what to do between the scenes.

Bea | 233 comments I love happy endings and weddings, don't you? Do you think Bella will find out that her last name is not really Rokesmith?

Somehow I find Lavvy and Mrs. Wilfer endearing in their "majesty". Or at least funny ... Mr. Wilfer has it bad, but he should be glad he's not living in another novel with Mrs. Jellaby or Mrs. Pardigle.

LauraT (laurata) | 493 comments You see? I was right: the Boffins were lovely; they knew who John was if not right at the beginning, quite soon enough, and Bella needed only a bit of encouraging to become what she really was "inside"!

Yes Bea, I love happy endings, and with Dickens, a part some really astonishing examples, you're quite safe on this side!!!

Bea | 233 comments Uh, spoiler alert! Weddings are always happy but we don't want to get ahead of the story on some other things. I'm not so sure Mr. Boffin has changed his ways.
