Athira (Reading on a Rainy Day) (readingonarainyday) Since I don't want to overwhelm you guys with everything we'll have for 2012 all at one go, I'm going to spread out the updates in separate posts.

Minichallenges
The minichallenges that were a regular feature of the readathons in 2011, will continue to be featured in 2012 as well, but with a difference. Instead of just having 7 days to complete them, they will run longer, some for about a month, others for close to 2 months.

A set of minichallenges will be announced on the 1st day of each month. They will all have an 'end date', which will be the last day of the very next readathon. For example, the minichallenges announced on Jan 1st will have an end date of Jan 28th (the last day of the January readathon). The minichallenges announced on Feb 1st and Mar 1st will have an end date of Mar 31st (the last date of the March readathon) and so on. (No readathon in Feb).

Buddy reads
In 2012, buddy reads will be introduced in this group. This will be a chance for you to suggest a title in the buddy reads folder (when it is set up) and ask if anyone wishes to join you in reading. You could do it for every title you read or the more challenging ones. There are no rules here - you just ask for a buddy when you want one, and if someone wants to join you in reading the book, he/she can comment in the thread.

LynnB I like the mini-challenges plan. It will be great to have more than just the read-a-thon time in which to get them done!

Samantha I like the idea of the buddy reads.

message 4: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (thedoctorscompanion) | 107 comments I love the minichallenges. :)

I can't see myself participating in the buddy reads. I like this group to just log my books that I read, and to talk to others about it. I like to join other groups for books to read.

I hope everyone has a great reading year!

here is the link to the buddy read's folder and the guidelines - which really are nothing...

the only comment i have is how do you guys want to handle spoilers in the thread?

and i'm going to keep a running list of buddy reads in a thread, for tracking purposes

Samantha Where is the link, Dee?

Nancy H | 561 comments I love the idea of having longer time to complete the mini-challenges. I like to do them because they force me to read outside my normal genres sometimes, and that is good for me. Great idea!

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Goodreads now has the ability to hide spoilers in the body of your message. That way, people can decide if they want to read the spoilers or not.

To put in a spoiler type <$poiler> and to end type $poiler) where the $ is replaced by an S.

Here's an (view spoiler) (and of course, it helps if you type spoiler correctly. IT took me 3 tries to get it spelled correctly.)

i figured that would work Ann, but having just done a group read where people really struggled with that spoiler text (which was entertaining in itself) - i figured i would leave it up to the individual person doing the read

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) That's so cool! I can already think of some ways to put that tool to use!

message 13: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (mblisa) | 92 comments I like the idea of Buddy Reads! Anyone want to join me on a romance book?

Have you read the virgin river series by robin carr? I'm in the middle of the series and I think it's pretty good.
I'm getting ready to start Should have been a cowboy by Vickie Lewis Thompson. As soon as I get to my computer later today I will compare our books Here on good reads and maybe we can come up with a book to read together

or..I saw a cozy that was listed on both of our shelves as "to be read"
called.. Curiosity Thrilled the Cat
I also noticed Miranda Bliss on your shelf, have you
read # 4 or # 5 in her series? Ive read the first three. =)
