Kate | 97 comments Hi, Kate here - so this is where folk hang out. I was born near Liverpool in what the locals call 'woolly-back-land'. I’ve been writing for over thirty years, with a few small successes along the way.

My novels tend to be character-driven and/or voice-driven and a bit quirky or gritty, whether contemporary or retro.

My punk novel, Fall of the Flamingo Circus was published by Allison & Busby (1990) and by Villard (American hardback 1990). It has been out of print for years but has been my most successful novel yet.

Skrev Press published my novels Seaview Terrace and Sucka! and Break Point and other shorter work has appeared in Skrev’s avant garde magazine Texts’ Bones including a version of my satirical novella Lost The Plot.

Thalidomide Kid was published by Bewrite Books (2007).

Little Guide to Unhip was published by Night Publishing (2010), a departure from my usual fiction.

I’ve also had other short stories published and shortlisted, including Hard Workers and Headboards, first published in The Diva Book of Short Stories and Texts Bones respectively, and now published as part of the Dancing In The Dark erotic anthology, published by Pfoxmoor Publishing (2011).

I also received a Southern Arts bursary for my novel Where A Shadow Played now.

I’ve embraced the digital world and most of my books are also available at Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com. Books recently added are:

Far Cry From The Turquoise Room Far Cry From The Turquoise Room Also available at CreateSpace in paperback.

Down The Tubes - Kindle
Suckers n Scallies (an updated version of Sucka!) - Kindle
Tales By Kindlelight (short story collection) Kindle
Savage To Savvy - Kindle
Lost The Plot - Kindle

Most books available also on Kindle/some in paperback. Most on Kindle reduced to 0.99 until end of January 2012.

My other interests are music, singing, cats, Liverpool FC, photography, campaigning and cats.

More on my website if you're interested.

Kate | 97 comments Did You Whisper Back? by Kate Rigby
Did You Whisper Back?

Now out on Kindle, my oldest book, so old it is historical as I started writing it in the 1970s! It was also awarded a Southern Arts bursary in 1991.

Set in the nineteen-seventies,Did You Whisper Back? begins with Amanda Court's longing to be reunited with her estranged twin sister Jo. Following a false lead, Amanda leaves her Merseyside home and family and goes to Devon to work as a chambermaid where she believes Jo now lives.

Gradually it emerges that Jo is, seemingly, just a figment of Amanda's imagination arising from distorted childhood truths.

Did You Whisper Back? is a psychological novel about family secrets and a disturbing portrayal of the fragility of the mind. Now at a promotional price of £1.

Many thanks

Kate | 97 comments Thanks Patti! I wasn't expecting it as I crashed out at this stage last year!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Fingers crossed for you! Be sure to let us know how you get on, okay?

message 18: by Kate (new)

Kate | 97 comments Will do, thanks, Patti. To be honest, one of my reviews wasn't that good. I think a lot of US readers don't 'get' the UK expressions! I had the same thing last years so I put a little note on the top this year that I was from UK!

I've heard more than one author say that Kate. You'd think they'd try to learn what they mean rather than complain, wouldn't you? It's not like google isn't handy!
Sheer laziness, I reckon.

Kate | 97 comments Great Sarah :-) Thanks.

That's so true, Patti. It's so easy to Google nowadays and what I always try to do when I want to check something! Last year I was criticized for not being able to spell - what they meant was UK spelling!

Kate | 97 comments Hi, I've just published my noveletta She Looks Pale
on Amazon for the princely sum of 77p.

What is a noveletta you may ask? Well, it is longer than a short story and shorter than a novella or to put it another way - 10k words!

I'm not sure how to get the cover picture up, mind!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Congratulations Kate!

Here's the amazon link.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's an excellent read by the way! I reviewed it on Amaxon but couldn't get it to show up here - glad it's here now. I shal go and copy and paste!

message 27: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Wahay! Done it!
Do have a read of this, people. It's most unusual and will only take an evening. As with all the best 'short stuff' (sounds like a Terry Pratchett dwarf insult?) there's an immense amount packed in there.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thanks Ignite!

Perhaps Elle or someone can help with getting the book cover up in here.

It's a rather nice cover, I think.

message 29: by Kate (new)

Kate | 97 comments Ah many thanks, Patti.

And many thanks Ignite. I was very chuffed to find your review on Amazon yesterday :-)

Yes, if anyone knows how to get the cover up, that's be grand!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'll be sure that our super-hero Elle sees that you need a helping hand, Kate. :)

message 31: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Hey!

If you edit the details of the book, at the right hand side there is a bit where you can upload a cover, or you can simple shove the cover my way and I'll do it for you?

I did attempt to find it myself but I couldn't see it anywhere but Amazon!

message 32: by Kate (new)

Kate | 97 comments Hi Elle!

Thanks for that tip! If I get stuck I'll give you a shout :-)

Kate | 97 comments Some of you may remember Fall Of The Flamingo Circus the first time round – my punk novel and first published book! Thanks to all of you who’ve bought it, lent it to your mates and supported it. For a while now I’ve been wanting to bring it out in e-format but it was so old I didn’t even have an electronic copy until I discovered the wonders of modern technology and something called OCR, free on Google docs.
I thought this Bank Holiday weekend would be a good time to re-kindle it.
Now at a promotional offer of 0.99.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I finished this the other day having read Ignite and Elle's recommendations and like them found it fascinating. Thanks for a terrific read Kate.

message 48: by Kate (new)

Kate | 97 comments Ah, thanks so much, Philip (Or is it Sarah?!) and Elle. It's great to get your feedback. It was written quite a number of years ago now.

Goodreads doesn't seem to be notifying me of new messages any more. Not on here, or on any other forums. I have 'individual emails when someone comments' ticked but it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?

message 49: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments It's Sarah. Philip is there in respect and honour of her husband who funds her obsession ;)
