Talk to me (my way of keeping in touch) -from Joy of Glens Falls

I'm on page 186 in the book, _Gilead_, and there's still no plot. LOL I'm waiting! (g) Somehow I can't stop reading the meanderings of this old minister who is writing a letter to his grandson, a letter to be read perhaps many years in the future.
_Red Hot_ is a mystery about stolen art and a suspected murder. The hook is in. I'm on p. 70 and am enjoying the relaxed writing style of the author, Audrey Friend. A pleasant personality shines through.

I love it here too, I don't think I'll go downstate ever again.
Where are you from downstate?
I'm originally from NYC area. And I have the horrid accent to prove it, LOL
I work on the Lake, I restore antique wooden boats for Hall's. Your pix show off the beauty of Lake George perfectly!
I love it here, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I'm from Putnam County downstate. We retired to the Lake George area in 1991. I have a bit of a NYC accent too. (g) We should get together and listen to each other. (lol)
What a coincidence about Halls Marina! I was there in October just looking around. I took photos. Below is a link to some of the pics I took:

You can see Million Dollar Beach in the distance in one of the pics.
The bookshelf at my group has a section about Lake George books. See:

There are other tags for books about the local area. I'm sure you own most of them! :)

How did you find this Happy & Brainy Group? (I love that name!) (grin)
Best wishes,
Joy

I love Hall's and my work there.
I'm going to tell my friends here at goodreads to have a look at your pix.
I'm not much into local history. Though, I have read The Last of the Mohicans. My foreman's brother is a living breathing local history afficionado, he's my source for all things Lake George.

I haven't read The Last of the Mohicans, but I've read a lot about it. We visited Cooper's Caves in South Glens Falls last summer. Have you been there? If not, you must go and feel the history.
As for local Lake George history, let me know what you find out about Sabbath Day Point. We have a vacation house there.
I buy the Lake George books for my husband who loves the area and reads about it, since he enjoys non-fiction. I'd like to meet your foreman's brother. I'll bet we could all have fun talking while sitting on a bench on Beach Road looking at the lake. (g) My favorite place! (grin)

I walk along the Lake everyday with my dog. If you see us, stop us, you'll know Juneau because he's big and he's beautiful, everyone stops to meet him. I can't go to the beach in the summer because it takes hours to walk that little stretch of road with so many people stopping us.
I'm wondering if you know Howard already, he lives in Glen's Falls and used to work with us at Hall's. Very cool guy.

Autumn is a gorgeous time of year in the New England states of northeastern U.S.

You've probably already seen my photos of Million Dollar Beach. But just in case you haven't, here's the link: ===>

Also, below is a link to pics I took of scenes around Beach Road in Lake George Village:

It's hard to resist taking pictures with such beautiful scenery all around.

I've been meaning to ask you what you know about that boat in Hall's parking lot. Below is a link to the photo of it: ===>

The boat has such a pretty shape.

Btw, cute dog ;)

I don't know anything about the boat in the lot, it's probably just being stored. I don't notice the fiberglass boats because I don't work on them. You can call and ask them about it, they are always happy to answer boat questions.

I'm sure you have many lovely spots in the Philippines. At least you don't have to deal with the snow and ice we're expecting tonight in Glens Falls, NY. Keep dreaming but enjoy what you have too. At least you've been to Turkey. I don't fly. So I haven't been across the ocean, except for taking a cruise ship to Bermuda in 1994.

Our own boat needs its seats re-upholstered. It's a 1986 19' Glastron with a small cabin. They don't make many 19 footers with cabins these days. So I want to keep the boat. When I was at Halls, someone recommended a place in Lake George which does that sort of work. But my husband keeps postponing the upholstering. So we just cover the seats with terry cloth covers. Not too fancy!

I wouldn't want to disturb it either since it's already winterized and put away. Spring will be soon enough. It'll be so nice to see them when they are done. I love how everything looks when the work is completed. It makes me happy an it's worth all the effort we put into it. When we're finished, I stand back, and admire our work.

I've got my dining room table all ready for Thanksgiving. I, too, enjoy admiring how everything looks. Too bad we have to mess it up with food and dirty dishes. (lol)
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I love to look at the turkey and everything around it. It really is beautiful. Got my turkey started...can't wait to sit down and enjoy it!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm keeping busy with so many things, lots of irons in the fire! (g)
I guess we're all very busy, especially at this time of year.

Here in the Philippines, Christmas season starts as early as September. We call the months September to December BER Months. We decorate our houses, trees and even our fences with christmas lights. We have very bright lanterns because of the lights also.
This year, it's not that bright here in the Philippines and our celebration is kinda late. I think it's because of economic problems.
But, whatever happens, it's still Jesus Christ's Birthday. I remember the first Christmas. Mary is about to give birth to Jesus ,but there are no rooms in the inns. God is still born, even if it's just in a stable with sheep and horses. Even when it also means wrapped in some cloth and lying on a manger. It is a very humbling but blessed night. Our Savior is still born. He doesn't even wait for a room to be available. He doesn't even wait for just one more night. For God, there is no time to waste. He will save us. What an awesome God we have! :)

We have our creche up to remind us of that story of the Christchild.
I love the lights of the holidays. I wouldn't mind at all if they started in September.
The kids will all be here for Christmas. They stay overnight. We'll be eleven people altogether including the 4 grandchildren. I still have a lot to do to get ready.
Happy holidays to you, Lucille! What will you be doing?

New Year here in the Philippines is pretty noisy. Filipinos have adapted Chinese tradition of lighting fire crackers. The first 30 min to 1 hour of the new year is the loudest. What about there, in your part of the world? This is very educational. We get know different cultures :D

I'm trying to think if I ever hear fire crackers on New Years here in the USA. I'll have to pay attention. It hasn't been a strong tradition here, as far as I know.
Now I remember that on TV at midnight on New Year's Eve, we can watch New Years celebrations all around the world. There are plenty of beautiful fireworks on the screen.
The big time for fireworks here in the USA is Independence Day, July 4.

Just dropping by to say hello. I haven't forgotten this great group. I'm just short of time at this point. But I wanted to keep in touch.
Best wishes to all.
