Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Hope nobody minds but I thought it might be a good idea for us to have a folder in case there are some questions.

Question from Nancy that I moved here --Tim

Ok - I have a question. I am currently reading a book on my I PAD. When I checked at Amazon, they said the hardcover was 400 pages but the paperback was 536. Good Reads also listed 536 as the number of pages 536. For this group, which number would I use?

Hi Nancy. Admins won't check - so do whatever you would like. I say go for the 536 in case there are any snoopers who may check - they would most likely check on Goodreads :)

Completely agree with Tim. Go with whatever you feel is right. If I was reading an ebook that had 536 pages but goodreads said the hard cover was, say, 401 pages I would go with the ebook number of pages as that is what version I was reading at the time, but that is just my personal preference...

Best wishes

Debs :-)

message 6: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Thanks - I will go with the higher number.

Debbie The Book Vixen (goodreadscomdebbiethebookvixen) Good Morning!
Just curious I know the book has to have 400 pages or more but I have some books really close to 400. for example, 356, 320, 387, 357, etc. would those still be acceptable for the challenge?

Thanks.

Krista (CubicleBlindness Reviews) (cubicleblindness) | 2 comments Um probably a dumb question. But can I count audiobooks? I am trying to get together how many books I read so far this year and realized most of my "big books" I listened to. :)

Krista wrote: "Um probably a dumb question. But can I count audiobooks? I am trying to get together how many books I read so far this year and realized most of my "big books" I listened to. :)"

I would probably say that if the book is listed on Goodreads as being over 400 pages then go for it.. Even if you listened to it, you are still reading the same amount of content... Best wishes Debs :-)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Debra - not sure where I posted my recent help me post but your directions were just fine and now I see my stats of read books over 400 pages. Many thanks for being a great mod.

Definately will be! Already putting in place plans for 2013. It will be this group but I will change the header to say 2013 and the widget will change to be a fresh one for 2013..... Looking forward to starting a fresh in 2013... :-)

Lindy wrote: "What is a a bind-up of several novels?"

Sorry for the delay in replying Lindy, I missed the notification... A bind up is a series of stories in one book. For example, the Morganville Vampires series has many books published individually but you can also get them as one book (which holds books 1, 2 and 3) etc...

The Morganville Vampires, #1-2
The Morganville Vampires, #1-2 by Rachel Caine

Hi Ron, thanks for your comment. As this is a Big Book Challenge where people challenge themselves to read books over 400+ and log it here, as moderator I removed the post as it did not relate to this group.

Brown Girl Reading | 7 comments Hi Debra it would be cool to see how many pages had been read by the end of March. Do you think people would be happy to send in their page count for that? Do you think it's a good idea?

message 34: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) In another group we do a page count. One group calls this the Millionaire Challenge while another group class this books iVe read by month. These folders also serve as a list of books read for that year.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am having trouble connecting the books I read for this challenge with the area which counts them. I have included a shelf deemed for this but they aren't included and I now find I have other shelves with similar names. How can I delete these shelves and start over.

Hi Nancy, if you click on 'books' at the top of Goodreads and look to the left hand side you will see all the shelves in a list. At the top by the heading I believe if you click 'edit shelves' you can go in and delete a shelf you do not need.
Best wishes Debs

message 39: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Thanks Deb. I was able to delete the shelves I didn't want and added a new a shelf. I haven't checked if it resgistered the two 400 page books I read yet. BTW - I had the same problem last year which somehow was fixed after you wrote with suggestions.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Debra - something is wrong with my counter. Although I have two shelves listed - read and books over 400 pages for 2013, all of the books I have read so far are being counted as my 400 page book shelf. Any suggestions?

Hi Nancy, If you go into the books and edit your review, go to the section where you can select a shelf and add 'read' shelf so you should now have two shelves allocated to that particular book... Hopet his helps.. :-)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I've done this Debra but it doesn't seem to work. Maybe there's a glitch in my puter.

In the meantime, when I finsh a book I indicate this on the opening main page and it tells me the number of pages for that book. Imagine my surprise when I finished A Week in Winter and it said the book was over 400 pages and the hardcover copy I read said 362. I wonder why there's such a large difference.
