Stephanie Tell us about the cozy you have just started, are currently reading, or just finished!

Is it worth checking out?

message 2: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 I am not reading a cosy atnthe moment - but have A Lie for a Lie (Ministry is Murder Mystery, #4) by Emilie Richards A Lie for a Lie by Emilie Richards lined up for January. It is the 4th in the series. I also have Dead Man's Folly by Agatha Christie on order at the library - it is for a challenge where I need to read a book that was first published in the year I was born!

message 3: by Tasha (last edited Dec 27, 2011 07:22PM) (new)

Tasha I'm reading A Red Herring Without Mustard (A Flavia de Luce Mystery #3) by Alan Bradley right now. I've read all the others in the series except this one. Enjoying it as much as the others. I definitely recommend this series.

message 4: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I've just finished I Am Half-Sick of Shadows (A Flavia de Luce Mystery #4) by Alan Bradley , which is fourth in this series about Flavia de Luce. Really a fun series and, like Tasha, I recommend it.

I'm just starting Bitter Harvest (Orchard Mystery, #5) by Sheila Connolly which is 5th in it's series. I really like this series, too. It's set in an apple orchard outside a small town. The main character is Meg Corey, the orchard owner.

message 5: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I started reading Secondhand Spirits (A Witchcraft Mystery, #1) by Juliet Blackwell and made it one of the first books for our group because A.) I am really enjoying it, and B.) I didn't know if people would get involved right away so I wanted to get the ball rolling with something I was already into.

This is a really cute cozy and I like the main character, Lily. She is a witch (which I wasn't too excited about), but she owns a vintage clothing store and struggles with being different. I like her!

message 6: by Hettie (new)

Hettie | 5 comments I tried reading The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie but could just not get into it.

I am about currently reading Styx and Stones A Daisy Dalrymple Mystery (Daisy Dalrymple, #7) by Carola Dunn which is part of the series that got me hooked on cozies. I am about to read The Mummy Case (Amelia Peabody, #3) by Elizabeth Peters once it arrives at the library.

Seems I am on a bit of a historical cozy kick at the moment.

message 7: by Cherylann (new)

Cherylann | 9 comments I just downloaded the two group books to my nook. I was pretty excited to see that In The Dead of Winter (Ivy Towers, #1) by Nancy Mehl was $3.99. I'm also hoping to start Patterns in the Sand (Seaside Knitters, #2) by Sally Goldenbaum this weekend.

message 8: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I just finished one of the January featured books while riding around in the car with the husband today - Secondhand Spirits. I gave it four stars...it was a lot of fun with a likeable character and theme. I wasn't too into the premise of witchcraft and the paranormal, but now I plan on reading book two!

Recently I read The More the Terrier (Pet Rescue Mystery) by Linda O. Johnston by Linda O. Johnston. I liked the first in this series, but not so crazy about this one.

Earlier this month I read Die Buying (A Mall Cop Mystery, #1) by Laura DiSilverio by Laura DiSilverio. Earlier in the year I read another one by her, Swift Justice (A Charlie Swift Mystery #1) by Laura DiSilverio , which was hysterical. Both are the first in a series.

message 10: by Amy (last edited Dec 29, 2011 06:16PM) (new)

Amy Gray I'm reading Ringing In Murder, one of the Christmas-themed Pennyfoot Hotel mysteries. I've read one every Christmas for the past few years but never get to finish it until after the holidays because I'm so busy with Christmas preparations. I think there are other, non-Christmas books in the series but I haven't looked into them. I just finished An English Murder. It's like an Agatha Christie book in that a bunch of people get snowed in in a big estate house over Christmas, but the plot was much simpler and the writing and characters not on par with Christie. Still a fun holiday read, and quick to boot.

message 11: by LynnB (last edited Jan 02, 2012 10:06AM) (new)

LynnB I'm just starting The Merlot Murders (Wine Country Mysteries #1) by Ellen Crosby , which is the first of "A Wine Country Mystery" series. A new author to me.

message 12: by Amy (new)

Amy Gray I've read the entire Wine Country Mystery series and liked them all. I enjoy wine, and the books taught me a lot about the wine-making process, as well as history of the setting (VA outside of D.C.).

LynnB Amy wrote: "I've read the entire Wine Country Mystery series and liked them all. I enjoy wine, and the books taught me a lot about the wine-making process, as well as history of the setting (VA outside of D.C.)."

That's good to hear you liked them. This first one is the lowest rated of the series, which is typical of most cozy series I am finding out, but still has a decent rating overall. I live in a wine-making region in WA which is why I picked it out originally. I had no idea that Virginia was a wine-making region, too.

message 14: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I am starting The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax (Mrs. Pollifax, #1) by Dorothy Gilman The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax after we knock out another episode of Showtime's "Homeland" - AMAZING television show!

I read those years ago. They sure were a fun series!

I read that one last year - really enjoyed it - have just purchased the second in the series to read

The Chardonnay Charade (Wine Country Mysteries #2) by Ellen Crosby and is on the list to read this year :)

Ashley FL | 26 comments I am reading "sentenced to death" by Lorna Barrett, which is the fifth and I believe last in the Book Town series. they are really cute, and I love trading about the different book stores!

I have to admit, though, that the main character is one of my least fav characters in the book - too judgmental.

LynnB, Amy, and Sally906 - I'm currently listening to The Viognier Vendetta (Wine Country Mysteries #5) by Ellen Crosby , the 5th in the series. I'm really enjoying it. Kind of makes me want to go back and skim the others, I read them so long ago.

I loved the Mrs. Pollifax series. I think I remember an old tv movie with Angela Lansbury as Emily Pollifax.

Today I finished In The Dead of Winter (Ivy Towers, #1) by Nancy Mehl , one of the group reads.

message 24: by Rosemarie (new)

Rosemarie (rmcbooks) | 3 comments Just finished The Ghost and Mrs. McClure by Alice Kimberly, first in the A Haunted Bookshop Mystery series. I enjoyed this one and will read the next one as soon as I can get it from my library. Also have read the first three in the Agatha Raisin series by M.C. Beaton. On the fourth The Walkers of Dembley, Love them!

message 25: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I started The Diva Runs Out of Thyme (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #1) by Krista Davis last night and I like it so far. A this point, I think I can say I plan on reading the next book in the series.

message 26: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly I'm reading Evans Above (Constable Evans Mysteries #1) by Rhys Bowen I've never read this author before but so far I like this one.

I finished this today while the baby was sleeping and I have to say that it went downhill for me...I really loved the first half but thought the plot went kind of crazy. I might still read the second book, but with so many series' firsts to check out, I won't be in a hurry!

I'm reading Angel Condemned (Beaufort & Company Mystery, #5) by Mary Stanton by Mary Stanton. It's the fifth in a very enjoyable series.

message 29: by LynnB (last edited Feb 04, 2012 08:21AM) (new)

LynnB I just finished Trouble in the Brasses by Alisa Craig by Alisa Craig (Charlotte MacLeod). I gave it 4 stars, which is tops for me when rating cozy mysteries. It's main character is RCMP Detective Inspector Madoc Rhys. I've loved all of her mysteries, the quirky ones and the "normal" ones. This is an older series (from the 80's) but a very good one.

Amy I've just started Murder is Binding (A Booktown Mystery, #1) by Lorna Barrett and I am really enjoying it so far!

message 33: by Karen (new)

Karen (kazzakrisanna) | 23 comments I've finished Laced with Magic (Sugar Maple, #2) by Barbara Bretton really enjoyed it - mystery with magic - except it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, I have to get the next one now!
Just started Past Malice (An Emma Fielding Mystery #3) by Dana Cameron it's my first Emma Fielding mystery (Mystery with archaeology) even though it's actually 3rd in the series (I don't have the others - yet)

Past Malice sounds good. Adding it to the never-ending list :)

message 35: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I started A Cast-Off Coven (A Witchcraft Mystery, #2) by Juliet Blackwell A Cast-Off Coven today, but I only got about 30 pages into it. There haven't been too many cozy series I have continued in, but I really liked the first one so I grabbed this at the library...along with the third book! :)

message 36: by Amy (new)

Amy I just started Bookmarked For Death (A Booktown Mystery, #2) by Lorna Barrett and I'm liking it so far. I enjoyed the first in the series so I'm excited to read this one!

I'm reading that one as well. However, I'm not loving Tricia. It doesn't seem that she's a very happy person...

message 40: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Mum's the Word (A Flower Shop Mystery, #1) by Kate Collins Mum's the Word came in for me as an EPub, so I will upload that and read it in the next couple of weeks. It was a featured book for January in the BIG cozy group.

I found those books went downhill for me, mostly because the main character really wore on me. It is too bad -- I loved the other characters and the idea of the series and even the plots.

message 42: by Amy (new)

Amy @Karli & Ashley FL - I'm struggling with Tricia myself. I'm hoping that I'll get past it but something about her is not working for me ...

message 43: by LynnB (new)

Tara I just got Deeply, Desperately (Lucy Valentine, #2) by Heather Webber in the mail from PBS swap today. I have a few books to read before I get to it, but it will definitely be my next cozy.

Yes, we are book twins, Karli!!! And thank goodness for that! I love that I can look at what you've liked or not liked and know that I can trust that I'm likely to feel the same way!!!

message 47: by Karli (new)

Karli (goodreadscomkarli_is_booked) @ Amy - Ditto! (Except The Outlander series...I can't love that one with you. But I tried!)

message 50: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Reading Hexes and Hemlines (A Witchcraft Mystery, #3) by Juliet Blackwell , the 3rd in the witchcraft series. Enjoying it better than the 2nd so far.
