This is especially for Harriet who can then edit her post on the thread of our books for the bookshelves (http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...) but as I struggled with it too at the beginning, I thought I might as well do a thread about it.
Moderators, feel free to delete it if you think it's useless! :-)

Here goes:
go to "add book/author"
search for your book/author name
Actually with the first little window there is the option - the default being "link". Switch that to "cover" and your cover (with the link) will show up in the post.
Here's the example with my only (at the moment) sci-fi title:

I just cut and pasted it for keeping. Very valuable advice as I was wondering how to do it, and was about to post a question on the topic. Thanks Barbara!
