Vidya (vidyanair) | 436 comments Opening my account with:
1) The Murder at the Vicarage (Agatha Christie Comic Strip) by Norma Agatha Christie
My rating : 3.5/5

I read the graphic novel for this amazing Agatha Christie creation. Coincidentally, this is my first graphic novel ever and I did enjoy every bit of it..
But yes, I missed the usual guessing and all nail-biting linked to Agatha Christie novels because the suspense ended way too soon..
But the plot is nice and its a very enjoyable read.

Vidya (vidyanair) | 436 comments Here's another one from me:
2) Gently Falls the Bakula by Sudha Murty Sudha Murty
My rating : 4/5

This is the touching story of Shrimati and Shrikant, both competitors in school, who fall in love later in life and ultimately get married.
The sacrifices Shrimati makes to let Shrikant excel in his career..and how she finally decides to follow her heart..is the gist of this simple yet moving novel.
I think atleast 30-40% of women in our country are like that. This novel was extremely thought provoking..

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments I loved this one! And at the risk of being repetitive, the fact that this novel was written almost 30 years ago and that it is still relevant to the present day (even though the number of such cases is down now), is notable!

I still remember the conversation on my reading progress thread last year discussing possible sequels to the novel:

1) The lady becomes the man, marries another guy and neglects him just like her hub did
2) The guy repents and comes back to his lady forming a cute love story :P

LOL!!! The second idea is good..but the first one..ROTFL..:)(and coming from someone like Shrimati..next to impossible).

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Ok, the first one is more like a generic picture of the present day where (i think) ambitious women sometimes go overboard!

However ambitious an Indian woman might be she wouldnt want to trample on her husband while concentrating on her career..(its another case if the husband is a good-for-nothing altogether but here the case is different)

somehow I didn't like the book and am going to read it again, as I proclaimed a few months ago when Adi was discussing the book, only problem being with so many never-read books beckoning me, rereading a book lacks lustre.

Vidya (vidyanair) | 436 comments very true Col! Even I hate going back to books already read, when I have loads of unread ones pleading me to pick them up..

Vidya (vidyanair) | 436 comments 3) The Immortals of Meluha (Shiva Trilogy, #1) by Amish Tripathi Amish Tripathi
My Rating : 2.5/5

Surprisingly, I didn't like this book much.(no offense meant to Tripathi fans) I did not find anything interesting here and have decided against reading the sequel. There were some parts of the book which I liked though, like the Meluhan culture, their ordered style of living, Sati and Shiva's chemistry etc. But other than that, nothing. I was just struggling to finish this one off.

Vidya (vidyanair) | 436 comments 4) The Princess Diaries (The Princess Diaries, #1) by Meg Cabot Meg Cabot
My Rating : 3.5/5

Mia Thermopolis(born out of wedlock) lives in Manhattan with her mother and leads a very simple life until she discovers that her father is the crown prince of Genovia and since his testicular cancer will not let him have more children of his own, she is now heir to the throne.
The various ups and downs Mia goes through after this discovery is the gist of this novel.
Well written, humorous and extremely entertaining..is all I can say about “Princess Diaries”.

Vidya (vidyanair) | 436 comments 5) The Reluctant Detective by Kiran Manral Kiran Manral
My Rating : 2/5

This book was a complete let down. The theme of a housewife turning into a detective was novel in itself. But as one reads this book, one realizes, there is hardly any mystery, the murders are insignificant and worst of all, the murders get solved on their own, without any intervention from the reluctant detective.

Vidya (vidyanair) | 436 comments 13) The Lost Story by Amit Goyal Amit Goyal
My Rating : 3/5

There is a novelty about the book in that, it is written by two authors, where one half is written by one and the second half by the other. The climax was also unique. I am more confused than convinced with the contents of the book.
