Well, this is relatively fab!
My first 55 books on my TBR list on here are all books/eBooks that I have ahad for a while and haven't got round to reading.
I actually made myself a resolution of not buying/downloading any new books until I'd read all of those ones!
Unfortunately I have no idea how long I've had some of them :S

Well thanks! I just made this group 5 minutes ago LOL. Try out the challenge on the group home page and let me know if it's easy to do. It keeps track of your progress just like the 2012 Goodreads Reading challenge. You have to make your own shelf in this group. Tell me if the instructions are helpful :D

message 4: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 491 comments Mod
I'm going to do that - honest - it may take some time to organise them in the right order tho' - I may put down 20 because some are rather large :S

message 5: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Ooh, I'll have to post a list tomorrow. (: Hey Jessica, are you LDS? Just wondering since you have a book from the church on your list! (:

message 6: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 490 comments Mod
Yes I am LDS. Are you Thalia?

message 7: by Adriana (new)

Adriana LDS?

message 8: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 490 comments Mod
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints aka Mormon. It's my religion :)

message 9: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 490 comments Mod
Oh, LDS stands for Latter-Day Saints and it's another nickname besides Mormon.

message 10: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 491 comments Mod
It's interesting how people's beliefs and life outside of work can have an effect on what they read - you can usually tell something about a person by the books they read - it's good for nosey old me ;D

message 11: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Oh. I didn't know it was the same thing. Cool. I probably should read my bible...

I'm trying to read spiritual books this year. We'll see how it goes with me and God.

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 490 comments Mod
Wow I have a lot of religious books on my list. Ha ha what does that say about me and the books I procrastinate reading? LOL. I want to read Paradise Lost because it's mentioned a lot in The Mortal Instrument Series by Cassandra Clare. YA books are my dusty bookshelf kryptonite :D

message 13: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Late response, lolololol.

Jessica, I am! (: It feels like there aren't many of us out here on the inter-webs! Which, I suppose reading your list again, I should have been able to tell. XD You've got one from President Hinckley!

message 14: by Thalia (last edited Mar 01, 2012 02:35PM) (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Oh, I'd better post my list, too! Mine are all actually not that old...but then again, I'm only sixteen, books I had from eight or nine years ago I'd probably really dislike reading now. x)

message 15: by Adriana (new)

Adriana No fair! You have a lot of easy reads on there. Well I mean interesting ones. Most of mine I've been avoiding for years. (;

message 16: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments It comes with being young? XD I've had much less time to collect books, let alone let them sit on my shelf for years and years. I just let GR and random.org choose books from my "I own" shelf (except for Tolkein stuff).

But heck, I'm reading like, a thousand pages worth of Poe; that counts for something, right? (;

message 17: by Adriana (new)

Adriana Yeah I guess it does (:

Adriana wrote: "No fair! You have a lot of easy reads on there. Well I mean interesting ones. Most of mine I've been avoiding for years. (;"

Ha ha. Same here! I wish I had Thalia's dusty bookshelf! LOL

Reading a thousand pages of Poe gets you big bragging rights :D

message 19: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments I've loved Poe ever since I knew who was; that's been about the majority of my life. (; But I never had all his works before--saw this hardback when Borders was closing for six dollars and pounced all over it. <3

My favorite was when Random gave me The Short, Second Life of Bree Tanner. It's like, less than two hundred pages. XD

message 20: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 490 comments Mod
You have to tell me what you think of Bree Tanner!

message 21: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments I will! I know I'm lame to the non-Twi fans, because I actually like the Twilight books, and then I'm lame to the Twi fans because I haven't read Bree Tanner yet. x) I'm really excited for it, though!

message 22: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 491 comments Mod
Oh yeah, this non-Twi fan finds you so totally lame ;D I'm impressed with your Poe love... never been a big draw for me but I am impressed that someone else loves Poe that much!

message 23: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Oh, I do! My older brother really liked Poe, too, and I suppose it rubbed off on me! We had a brief Poe unit in my English class this year, and my teacher called it quits just before we got to The Cask of Amontilado, which is my favorite. :[ But I find his work so interesting! I cannot stop reading ittt.

*embraces the lame-ness* ;D

Great picks Dalynn! I've read a lot of the books on your Classic list. I have extensive notes for the Silmarillion if you need them. That one was tough to get through! Big fan of C.S. Lewis.

message 27: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccamahanyhorton) | 3 comments I keep changing my mind on which ones I want but this is what I have--
The Unbearable Lightness of Being (Milan Kundera) - just finished it
Daughter of Xanadu (Dori Jones Yang)
The Greatest Knight (Elizabeth Chadwick)
The Will of the Empress (Tamora Pierce) - I've had this for an almost embarrassing amount of time
Sound Bender (Lin Oliver) - I haven't had it for that long but I should have read it way sooner because I got it through First Reads
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich (Alexander Solzhenitsyn)
The Orchid Thief (Susan Orlean)
Between Shades of Gray (Ruta Sepetys)
Untraceable (SR Johannes)

April--that's a lot of awesome books!

message 28: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Dalynn, you'll have to let me know how you like "King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table"! I'm a huuuuge Arthurian junkie, and basically every Authurian book to ever exist is on my TBR shelf. I'd love to hear your opinions once you're done. (:

message 29: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) I sure will, Thalia!

I don't have them all on my TBR yet, but in our homeschool we are studying history of the Middle Ages and the early church this year. So I'll be reading quite a few of these sorts of books!

I actually keep thinking that I need a separate place/way to keep track of the YA and children's books I read this year. I'm not counting those towards my 52, but will likely come close to doubling my count with just what I read with the kids. Going to try to work in quite a few Newberry winners this year also.

Anyway, all off-topic I guess, but I'll be sure I poke you or something when we get to that one! (Poking and tagging are both Facebook terms and activities... but this place needs something like that, too. LOL)

message 30: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments (Surprisingly, I understood the poke term! (: )

I've always just found the Arthurian/medieval period so interesting! And then naturally, I'm a big fan of BBC's "Merlin". x) I do wish there were more young adult Arthurian books; the closest I've gotten has been "Avalon High", and that kind of ruined it all when Cabot set up the Arthur character with the Lady of the Lake character. *headdesk*

Anyway! That was me rambling, hahah. I look forward to how you like it! I wish I owned any good Arthurian books on my shelf so I could put them in my challenge! (:

message 31: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) Hey, was looking at your list on here Thalia - let me know when you're about to read Eragon and I'll Buddy Read it with you! I don't own it, but it's been on my "I should read that" virtual, mind-shelf for a long time now. ;)

message 32: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Hahah, I will! I read it once, a few years ago, but I never read the rest of the series, mostly because I never got my hands. But I figure I should read it, since the last one just came out!

I found it hard to get through sometimes (maybe because I saw the movie when it came out, so it didn't hold much suspense when I read it), but I think it was worth it overall, and I look forward to reading it again! (:

message 33: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) I tried to read it after the movie came out with my oldest son, but he was too young for it still. I'm sure he'd enjoy it now, and I'd forgotten about the new book! I think I just filled my other start a new series spot.... ;)

You're not lame! Although,..I am..but I'm a twi-mom and I'm totally ok with that:) I'd like to know what you think of Bree Tanner...I got it out of the library once, but as always had too many books...and went for the Ted Dekker at that time (honestly, I was afraid it wouldn't give me what I wanted..more Edward and Bella) So, I returned it with thoughts of "I'll read it another time"...so I'm curious to see what you think!

Great shelf Adriana! You've got some good variety. Oliver Twist was good and I loved Holes. I haven't read any Scott Westerfeld yet, but I need to. I've heard lots of good things about him. Good luck with your challenge!

message 42: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments I just read Leviathan! And Mixed Up Files a loooong time ago. Sounds like you've got quite the variety!

message 43: by Adriana (new)

Adriana I'm reading Oliver Twist now. I'm really liking it. I don't know why I stopped before maybe because it was too long?

I've read Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series which I really liked. It's just that this one seems a little bit daunting. I don't know why. Sci-fi books always do that to me. Well... some.

I don't see it varied that much... probably because they have been on my shelves for so long (:

message 44: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) Welcome Freebird and Adriana! Loving those shelves - some I've read already and some are also on my dusty shelf (even if I didn't list them this time LOL). Looking forward to getting to know you! We're a friendly group. :)

message 45: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Adriana, I actually stopped Uglies series partway through! I liked Leviathan though, but it is not at all mature. The writing is kind of childish, so don't feel too daunted by it, hahah.

message 46: by April (new)

April | 570 comments You're grammar is fine! Understood perfectly! I see some good choices...and some I've never heard of . . . looking forward to your reviews..and maybe find some new books for myself! :)

message 47: by Denise (new)

Denise (dulcinea3) | 307 comments I started my group bookshelf - denises-dusty-books, and added the following:

The Moonstone, by Wilkie Collins (started but never finished)
Rebecca's Tale, by Sally Beaumont (same as above)
The Once and Future King, by T.H. White (because people are talking about Arthurian books)
Middlemarch, by George Eliot (because I saw it on Hayley's shelf)
Game of Thrones, by G.R.R. Martin (same as above)

I'll see how I do with those, and maybe add some more later in the year - I have lots and lots of dusty books to choose from!
