Barbara Radisavljevic (barbrad) I have been answering trivia questions every day for about a week now, and I'm running out of new questions to answer. They are starting to repeat, and that's no fun. If each of you would write a couple about children's books, it would be more fun. I've have written a few this week, but I need more about children's books. Then Anne of Green Gables books, Harry Potter, and the BFG are well covered in the questions. I'm looking forward to having some questions about other children's books -- or anything else except Shakespeare and mythology, which are also well covered, as are the Tolkien books.

Luann (azbookgal) | 44 comments Hi, Barbara. I was curious, so I took a look at your stats. Looks like you've only just scratched the surface of the Never-ending book quiz. You've answered 470 questions. Are you answering questions only from the link "trivia about my books" and reached the end of those? I looked at the leaderboard and the highest number of answered questions that I could find is 25,216. So there are many more questions out there! :) And many of them ARE for children's books.

The main problem is that most of the questions in the quiz are not linked to their book or author so they don't show up using the "trivia about my books" link or on their author or book page. GR librarians have been going in and adding links to books and authors, but it's a time-consuming process. GR recently added a search box for trivia questions (click on the "browse" link) which makes it easier to search out unlinked questions on certain books or by certain authors.

I've been adding links nearly every day the past few weeks - concentrating on children's books. I recently went in and added links to all the BFG questions, so that's why that one is showing up with so many questions. :) I'm not saying the quiz couldn't use more questions on children's books - and on a wider variety of children's books - just that there are probably more questions already there that you just haven't found yet.

BTW, you don't have to be a librarian to add book and author links to your own questions.

Barbara Radisavljevic (barbrad) I've tried both. I've now answered 557 and skipped 811 that were about books I've never read or have forgotten details of. I some more questions almost every day. And I try not to ask more than one or two questions about the same book or series in a row. Nothing discourages me more than getting 10 questions in a row on a book or play I've never read and hitting skip, skip, skip .... A lot of my questions are related to children's literature and authors, and some are related to mysteries or nonfiction. I think I might not be the only one who just doesn't read the latest best sellers. Some of us read more nonfiction, and only an occasional novel.

Barbara Radisavljevic (barbrad) I missed the last few paragraphs before my first answer. I've tried to add book and author links, but they never seem to make it. I must not know what to do with that little box to add the links.

I have found some questions on children's books. But most seem to be on Harry Potter, Anne of Green Gables, or Tolkien books, and they tend to go for a long time on the same book or series.

I'll have to figure out that little add author and title box somehow.

Luann (azbookgal) | 44 comments To add an author or title link when you are creating a quiz question, click on the "add book/author" link, then search under either the book or author tab in the box that pops up for the book or author you want to add to your question. So, if I type in "Charlotte's Web" under the book tab, a list of books and cover pictures appears. I think they are listed by popularity because usually the one you want is in the top few choices. Or you can easily narrow your search to the exact edition you want by using an ISBN instead of the title. When you find the one you want, click on the "add" button next to that title. That will insert a link into your question box that looks like this:

Only instead of the < and > it will have [square brackets:] around it. Not sure why, but it always inserts the link at the end of whatever is already in your box. But you can cut and paste the text of that link to anywhere you like in your question. So your finished product could look like this:

In the book , what is Charlotte?
(only with square brackets)

Once you save the question, it will look like this:

In the book Charlotte's Web, what is Charlotte?

And then when you go to the book page for Charlotte's Web, your question will be listed there - although sometimes not immediately. Your question will also show up for people who have Charlotte's Web on their list and use the link "trivia about my books," and also under the "browse" link where individual book covers are shown randomly.

The author tab works the same. I like to include both the book and author link when possible.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions, or if I haven't explained something clearly. I will follow your suggestion and add some more children's book questions - in addition to adding links to existing questions as I go. I agree that more variety makes the quiz a lot more fun!

Barbara Radisavljevic (barbrad) Can you go back and edit your questions? I made a typo in one I wrote tonight and didn't notice it soon enough.

Luann (azbookgal) | 44 comments You can. There are various ways to get there, so I'll just explain one. From your home screen, click on "trivia" in the "my profile" box. In the "my stats" box, click on "questions added." This shows you 10 of your questions per screen, so scroll to the bottom of the page to choose the last page number listed - to get to your most recently added questions. Click on the question to get to the detail page of that question. If you haven't answered the question yet, the system will make you do that first. If that happens, click on the "details" link in the "last question" box to get to the details page. From that page, click on the small "edit" link between the "flag" and the "delete" links on the bottom left-hand corner of the "answers" box. This will bring you to the "book quiz - edit questions" page where you can fix your typo and add book/author links, if you like. :) Also, make sure you take away the check mark next to "clear all current responses" so that all the previous responses won't be wiped out. Once you're done making the changes, click on the "edit question" box at the bottom of the page - and you're done. You can use that "questions added" link from any of the pages that show the "my stats" box to get back to your list of questions.
