Dick (dick1030) | 18 comments I have an original Nook black & white. I want to upgrade to a Nook color or Nook Tablet. My wife has a color and is using some of the apps available on B&N. For the most part she likes it and pretty much can use it like a tablet.

What I would like to know is this; is their a strong difference between the Nook Tablet & the Nook Color? Is it worth the extra money for the tablet. My intention is to use whichever I buy as an e reader/tablet with e reader being the main use.

Any opinions on which is better would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dick

Matthew (swint) If its primary purpose will be an ereader, probably the most logical choice would be the cheapest of the two. The Tablet is nearly identical to the Color--same shape, size, same apps can be installed, same reading experience, etc. The real difference is that the Tablet has been fitted with better hardware, such as a faster CPU, more built-in memory (RAM) and more storage space for files. The higher price for the Tablet is, to my understanding, due to the upgraded hardware entirely. The two devices will arguably provide the same user experience to the end-user. In a side-by-side comparison, the Tablet may display a bit quicker response times when launching apps or ebooks and flipping through the pages of documents, but that's about it.

I believe, with the latest firmware update for the Color, the only difference between the two devices is the hardware. Everything else seems to be identical.

That is the kind of information I am looking for and will use it in my determination.

Deidre (lilredrooster) Matt basically summed it all up. If you're looking for more of a tablet experience, where you want to be able to do things like use Neflix, play videos, things like that, you'll want something with faster hardware, and the tablet is the better option. If you just want to read and maybe hop online now and then, the Color is just fine. That's what I do with my Color, because I had no interest in buying a tablet.

My wife has a Nook Color and she was using it as a tablet for a few things. I found out about the N2A card (Nook to Android) and got her one and it works great. It's just a micro-SD card that lets you dual boot to either Nook or Android Tablet. She likes it and I may go with that. It doesn't limit you to B&N apps. http://www.n2acards.com/

Matthew (swint) The Nook 2 Android cards work well. I got one this past Christmas. I don't find myself booting with it that often, though. Like most people, I would assume, I bought an eReader to primarily read books and I have a desktop/laptop for many of the other things I want to do.

Dick (dick1030) | 18 comments That is basically it, Matt. Other than a calender and a couple of other apps, the tablet will be a toy for me. The color with an N2A card will fill what I need. Thanks for your help.
