This is one of my favorite books by Holt. I spent a great deal of my teenage years with Victoria Holt. Is this a first for you? I have a soft spot for the gothic novels as well.

message 20: by Lesley (new)

Lesley | 49 comments I wore a path to the "H" aisle at my local library when I was in high school... Victoria Holt was my favorite, but I also found Georgette Heyer and Joan Aiken Hodge there too! Other favorites were Mary Stewart and Phylis Whitney

message 21: by Nanci (new)

Nanci | 78 comments Those were my authors as well. I think I read everything they wrote at least once and mostly twice. I can never find Hodge in my library nowdays. I am going to have to take a closer look at your list of books so I know what to go to once I have room on my to-read list.

So you've begun the "Sookie series". Just curious as to how you're liking it as folk either love it or hate it. (If they've watched the HBO show, that also seems to have an effect.)

Lesley | 49 comments I HATE vampire books... but my niece finally convinced me to try it... I listened to the first 2 as audiobooks and the reader is one of the best! I am now totally hooked and can't stop reading them. They are the kind of book that are just fun. I do want to see TrueBlood just to see if the characters meet my expectations!

They are fun books, and your reasoning is exactly why I watched TruBlood on Netflix. Some of the characters don't quite fit *my* mental images, and the tv show doesn't necessarily follow the book's plotlines, but I've liked the show so far.
