I have started The French Gardener which is wonderful, as well as The Kid Who Climbed Everest, which is an exciting true adventure. They are both so good I wish I could literally read them both at the same time!

I read all afternoon and finished The French Gardener, which is a fabulous book. I read quite a lot of good books, but I can truly say this is one of the best ones I have read in a while. It is a love story but much more than that. A great way to start the Read-a-thon!

Day 1 just ended for me here in Europe. I wanted to read more, but I kept being distracted. I hope to find some more reading time tomorrow. I am enjoying my book, it is the third of the Shopaholic series, but it feels like the same joke is being told over and over again. Quite redundant.

Working on Slide, but have to go to work so progress will be hindered a bit. Good thing that so far its pretty good. I think I will be able to catch up on the lost time =)

i picked up P.S. I Love You to work on, one of my goals this year is to read lots of the books on my kindle that have been there for ages. Case in point, I bought PS I love you in 2009 right after I got my first kindle and still haven't read it (plus, then it gives me the excuse to watch Gerald Butler in the movie ;) )

Dee: Actually, it's really good. It's narrative biography, so it doesn't read as "dry" as a straight biography. I always take notes on books like this (helps me keep some of the events/people straight), but Massie did a wonderful job - I feel like a mini-expert on Catherine the Great right now. It is NOT a quick read, however. There's a lot of information that, as someone who wasn't very familiar with this time period as far as Russia figures into it, I read slowly in order to fully absorb it. I think it is meticulously researched, with the few examples of speculation (for instance, DID Catherine marry Potemkin? No one knows for certain, but there are excerpts included from Catherine's own letters that seem to indicate that she may have) clearly pointed out. I feel that it may have sort of petered off at the end (but I read an ARC, and it may not be the same as the final copy), where instead of a chronological progression, it sort of teeters back and forth between events - I would have liked to see a more straightforward chronology.

I really am glad I read it, though. If you pick it up, let me know what you think of it.

I started V is for Vengeance today, and I'm now on page 125. It is due at the library on Monday, so I'd better get a lot of reading done tomorrow. During the read-a-thon I hope to get caught up with a few group reads I'm working on plus get at least 3 other library books finished.

Just finished Shopaholic Ties the Knot. God it was really quite shallow and so predictable. Yet quite entertaining (also quite annoying at times). So one book finished for me.

I started 4 or 5 books yesterday and I couldn't get into any of them. Did finishThanksgiving. Didn't like it as much as her Stephanie Plum novels.

Yesterday I finished up The Pillars of the Earth (a chunkster) and today I'm reading Believing the Lie which is 600+ pages, so I'm not getting a lot of books read, but I am reading a lot of pages :)

Pillars of the Earth was a great read .. worth reading every single page

Read The Serpent's Tale yesterday, started Sheepfarmer's Daughter today.

I stayed up really, really late but finished my second one! It was really good - a bio from Bear Grylls who climbed Everest at age 23, after recovering from breaking his back in a parachuting accident a few years earlier.

I used to be able to stay up all night reading...in my younger days. Can't do it any more. Darn!

Nancy, I'll be curious to see how you like Swamplandia. That's one of those books I'm just not sure I want to read. I felt the same way about The Night Circus, but am 2/3 through and really enjoying it.

ohhh, DC has a delayed start for ice tomorrow...really hoping my work does as well...so I can stay in bed...even better would be a day off
