What is the Pick-It-For-Me Challenge?

The Pick-It-For-Me Challenge (PIFM) is a reading challenge where each participant gives and receives book recommendations based on a given set of rules. The assignment method and book selection rules change each month so it’s always new and different. Please make sure you read this information before you sign up.

After the signup period expires on December 29th, I'll put your names along the extra info I requested into the super secret PIFM randomizer and select someone for you to choose for. The person for whom you are to 'pick' will be posted at the same time as the rules for the month.

While you are doing your picks, someone else is picking for you. Once you receive your picks, you select a book off the list and get reading. To complete the challenge, you only have to read 1 (one) book, but many of us end up reading more because we just can't resist a list of books to read.

You need to either HAVE YOUR PROFILE SET TO PUBLIC (preferable), or make the person who will be giving you recommendations your friend. On top of that, I strongly recommend keeping your bookshelves updated; you may otherwise end up with a recommendation for a book that you have already read.

If you are new, please read the challenge specific FAQ. If you have any questions that are not addressed there, please feel free to ask!

IMPORTANT DATES:
January 28th (5 pm US EST): Sign up closes, matchups are made, picking rules are posted
January 31st (5 pm US EST): Deadline for recommendations, remixes are assigned
February 29th: Deadline for reading your pick and giving some feedback

Those of us who will be rocking the single life this Valentine's are grouped separately from those who will be cozily loved up.

- Please pick for the person below you within the same group. The last person will pick for the first person in the group. For example, in the Lucky Loved Ups group Pollyanna will pick for Sallie(Shuga) and so on, while Yz the Whyz picks for Pollyanna.
- If you aren't sure where you are on the list please check the name/links by clicking on them as there are people with same names. I've tried to indicate using their last name or in Suzanne's case the additional bump :)

PIFM Rules

Pick one book from each of the following categories for your pickee. You can pick from their TBR or select new-to-them books.

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: Recommend a book from a series or author that your pickee already loves.
Cupid Rules!: Recommend a romance!
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: In honour of the leap year tradition where girls propose to guys choose a book with unconventional gender roles or characteristics for the lead characters (kick-ass girls and wimpy guys count!).

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: Recommend a stand-alone novel.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: Recommend a book from a genre other than romance - horror, sci fi, fantasy, crime. Anything low (or non-existent) in terms of romance.
Valentine's Day Massacre: In honour of the 1929 Valentine's Day Massacre, choose a book that features gang/mob crime or murder or is set in Chicago.

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: Pick a book that is written by a black author, has a black main character or a black cover.
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Recommend a book that is set in the US, features politics or was written by an American author.
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Recommend a book set in Russia, with a Russian character or written by a Russian author.

Bonus Time!
My little sister is getting married on February 4th so here's a bonus category to pick for - select a book that is fourth in a series, has a younger sister character or features a wedding :)
