Romance, Historical or Otherwise discussion

Does anyone know of any books where the hero works to get the heroine's love? The heroine knows that the hero likes her but she tries to evade his advances?

I have read very few books with this storyline. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Hmmm.. do you like Laura Kinsale? I think Flowers from the Storm might be along the line.

Hmmm...what do you mean by 'evade his advances?' A book where the heroine doesn't want anything to do with the hero at all? Or one where the heroine doesn't want a relationship with the guy but has sex with him?

I know a lot of the second type but I can't think about the first type.

What about Secrets of a Summer Night?

Heart of Steel certainly has this theme, if you're willing to read that genre.


Bitten also, although the romance aspect sometimes (often) takes a backseat.

Several of the IAD books have a very "forward" hero, reluctant heroine. The series starts with A Hunger Like No Other.

I'll have to think on it to come up with some historicals that would fit.

Mystery Man Dream Man 1 by: author: Kristen Ashley may be what you're looking for. I really enjoyed it!

Hi Sophia, in His Treasure the hero has to work and wait a year after marriage to the heroine before he finally wins her over. :)

A couple more that fit your theme:
The Notorious Rake (one of my favourite redemption stories also)
Not Quite a Husband (pretty good on the angst scale also)
Libby's London Merchant (very non-steamy, but really sweet)

If you ever read Harlequin Presents, Madeleine Ker is a man, and I think it's rather interesting to read "her" books knowing that.

Jude Morgan writes some excellent Jane Austen-ish Regencies.

Incidentally, it's my new favorite book. ;)

I believe was written by a man. Lots of people love the book. I'm in the middle of it right now.
