Browse the bookshelves of our group and if you find someone that has the same book as you, ask them to join you in a buddy read with you here! Pick whatever date works for everyone and you can start a thread just for that book in the books folder.

Happy reading!

April, when do you want to read Paradise Lost? I was thinking like....March or April? I need a lot of mental prep for this book. LOL

message 3: by April (new)

April | 570 comments NO LOL about it! I can see you'll have to push me through! YES! until March or April...for fun wanna start on April Fools day! HA! At least then we have a goal!

message 4: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments When Dalynn sees this, we need to buddy read Eragon! (: I'm doing another challenge that include it in February, so let me know if you're able! (:

I don't think I share anything with anybody else though...unless someone wants to tackle Poe with me for a month. (;

message 5: by April (new)

April | 570 comments I do love Poe...read alot in high school...what are you reading, Thalia...or just a collection of his works? My personal fave was always "Cask of Amontillado" I might be able to tackle some Poe with you.

I actually wanted to tackle Eragon with you guys...but I don't know if I can physically do it! I've got so many books that I'm wanting to get through...and Eragon is sitting on my shelf half read! It really should have gone on my list! We'll see when you guys start it...maybe I'll be able to tag along!

message 6: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments My favorite was The Cask of Amontillado as well! I read that one a couple years ago, when I did a speech on Poe in middle school. I'm reading The Tales and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe - Complete Collection (Annotated). So it has everything in there, hahah. It'd be fun to not do it alone! (:

And definitely! You are welcome to join us. (:

message 7: by April (new)

April | 570 comments Let me know when you do Poe, Thalia...I think I can handle that, cause I can take sips here and there:) I'd be happy do read along with you! I own one collection (not sure if it's complete, but it's not annotated, I know that!)..but I do know where I can get more, hahah!

And...we'll have to see what else is on my plate whenever you guys get to Eragon...but, perhaps..My son keeps getting on my case to finish (he's halfway through Brisingr!...he gets mad cause he's afraid to talk about it cause he'll spoil it for me. Such a considerate boy:))

message 8: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments I probably won't attempt Poe until the summer, hahah; or read it over the course of the year, while reading other things. (I don't feel so compulsive about my one-book-at-a-time rule with a collection of short stories.)

Hahah, that's what sons are for! My brothers never did much reading. The only thing they contributed to my love of novels was handing down their LotR sets to me. (:

message 9: by April (new)

April | 570 comments Well..that was a pretty good contribution! LOVE LotR!

Eragon is on my TBR list but since I got it 2 months ago, it's not part of this challenge. But I would totally read it with you guys next month!

message 11: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) YAY! (Feeling loved. hehehe) I can totally do Eragon next month - whenever, just let me know! I have no real order-to-read at all, and it's all up in the air. THe challenges I wanted to fill at another site, well, they're at another site and I'm not terribly worried about filling them. But at any rate, they aren't time-based anyway, so whatever, whenever!

I should go add my books to the shelves then I guess.... ;) Not tonight though! Maybe tomorrow. LOL

message 12: by April (new)

April | 570 comments So I count four for Eragon...whenever it gets started! yay! Eragon book read! . . . Oh, dear, I better get cracking on WH (and Eragon isn't on my challenge list either, so it's extra) AHHH...being a bibliophile has it's downside! :D LOL

Then to jump in to Paradise Lost with Jessica...Woot Woot! YAY, I have nerd friends! (that's a compliment girls!) :D

message 13: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 490 comments Mod
So excited to read Paradise Lost with you April!

Hayley, do you want to read Hunchback of Notre Dame together? I'm going to start it before the end of the month.

message 14: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Well, woo hoo for Eragon becoming suddenly popular! :D I have to blaze through The Lovely Bones for my school book club, and also Tris and Izzie, which is, thankfully, on this challenge shelf! And then Eragon HERE WE COME!

April, as for my brothers' contribution, heck yes, it was one of the best things they ever did for me. (; That and taking me to see the films in theatre when they came out, regardless of the fact that I was only six! (:

message 15: by April (new)

April | 570 comments Eeekkk!!! SIX! As a mom I say oh no!...but as a lover of LotR, I say whhooopppeee! My son is 10 and is just now allowed to watch it with us so we've been having LotR weekends! The poor six year old has to wait, so I won't share your story with him! Looking forward to see what they do with the Hobbit!

message 16: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments My brothers are nine and a half, and seven and a half years older than me; I've grown up with the more mature stuff, hahaha! The first video game I ever played was Legend of Zelda when I was five-ish, and from that, I played Final Fantasy X at six-ish, and it was T. (; LotR was NO problem for me! I loved it, hahah.

But Jurassic Park III in theatres was too much for me when it came out! x)

I have to say, I saw the Hobbit trailer in theatre, and I almost cried because I was so thrilled! It looks AMAZING!

message 17: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) SIX! *runs to check your profile* *faints*

Everything you just said fits me pretty closely also - first video game being Legend of Zelda... I think I was closer to 7 or 8 years old... but um, it was because it was BRAND NEW.

I had no idea you were so young. ROFL I'm very amused right now....

message 18: by April (new)

April | 570 comments Geeze...now I feel old! We played lots of video games before Legend of Zelda!. . .but since then we've had them all...I heart Zelda!! My oldest is playing "link to the past" right now and he says he feels retro! Geek...(just like his mama)...

Never bothered with Jurassic park III...I loved the first one, the second one so/so...so I just never bothered with the third (either that or I did and it wasn't very memorable!:)

But, yes...the Hobbit...that will be one that we'll be getting a sitter for and visiting the big screen!

And...Final Fantasy (all of them) rock! :)

message 19: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Oh yep, I'm a youngn'! I think I'm the youngest one here, right? x) Ahhh, Ocarina of Time was only the beginning of my nerdiness! I think my brothers might have regretted introducing that one to me, as I am now the ultimate nerd, especially for good video games. I made a Lord of the Rings video for my friends birthday in July, and when my brother saw it, he nearly died hahah.

Though, I mourn the fact that my one brother took the Wii when he moved out with his wife and I never did get to finish Twilight Princess. It haunts me, hahha. OTL.

Hey, I still play on my Nintendo 64! (; Nothing retro about it; that's the way to go! I'll whip out Mario Tennis sometimes and just go at it for a couple hours!

Oh April, so glad to hear somebody else who likes Final Fantasy. <3 I'm anxiously awaiting the release of XIII-2. I saw spoilers for the ending, and I'm just about going to die! But alas, FFX did me in forever. The story of Tidus and Yuna drowned my heart in tragedy and beauty and alas, I have never been the same since then. <3

message 20: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) LOL April you aren't that much older than me.

I would love FF also I'm sure - just never had the opportunity. When we got my oldest a system a few years ago, I really pushed for Wii for two reasons. Moving is good for my kids. And, it lets you get the retro games!! WAHOO!

Haven't played any of the other Zeldas, nor FF, but only because I haven't ever had resources to acquire them. One of these days. ;)

In the meantime, I'll quell my nerdy cravings with LOTR online MMO instead. Ahem, in my spare time....

But yeah, I was surprised at your age Thalia, but it speaks highly of you that I'd never have guessed. We'll all have a blast I think!

message 21: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Hun, just get a PS2, and you'll be set for life, the way I see it. (; I suppose that's another thing I have to thank my brothers for; when the PS2 first came out, they saved for months to buy one together, and then left it behind when they eventually moved out! Huzzah!

Most people think I'm older than I am! That makes me very happy, actually. (: I made a Phantom of the Opera video a couple months ago (you can see it here, if you so wish! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPbHbo... ) and somebody commented on my YouTube profile commending me on my ability to feel such emotions at such a young age, hahah. I suppose my ability to cry over the "little things" makes me seem older! ;D

message 22: by April (new)

April | 570 comments Just kidding...no matter how old I actually get, I really don't feel it! Life's too fun to feel old! (I'm sure it will catch up with me someday!)

Young/Old...no matter, discussion of books (and video games) can be had by all!!!

So now I'm gonna have to bug my brother to send me all our Final Fantasy games! I miss playing them:) We had so much fun...we used to wait and wait for the next one to come out..and when it did, we were in heaven for at least 15 hours (that's about how long it would take my brother to complete them!)

...but Zelda is my true love! I've loved all of them (with the exception of Majora's Mask...it was just ok!) Ocarina, is by far, my uber fave! But, I've had fun watching my 10 year old play Twilight Princess and now Skyward Sword. I haven't had a chance to try my hand at those yet! But, it's fun having a ride back to my childhood watching him play the "old time" ones as he calls them! He thought it was hysterical that they didn't have boots in the first one...becuase he didn't have feet! LOL:)

I'm off to watch this video Thalia!

message 23: by April (new)

April | 570 comments Beautiful, Tahlia...that's just it..WOW! And, now I need to go watch Phantom of the Opera again. You're a very talented girl!

message 24: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Only fifteen hours?! My goodness, I could spend like 200+ on one playthrough (would usually last me through half the year, haha)! I'm such a hound about getting all the extra stuff though, hah. It's been like, eight years since I first played FFX-2, and I've never gotten 100% completion. ;-;

I wish I had the systems for the new Zelda games! I don't have any handhelds, and alas, my Wii was taken. *sigh* They look so wonderful!

Aw, thanks, sweetie! Phantom will always be my first love. <3 I definitely would not be who I am without it, and when I reread the book just a few months ago, and Christine went with Raoul I just akrnhyerkvarnhwnk4hr. *rampage* I'm such a Phantom fangirl!

message 25: by Trisha (new)

Trisha Hi everyone, I'm new to the group and was interested in joining in some of the buddy reads. I'd love to read "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" with some folks, I've attempted it twice. I'm also interested in discussing "The Silmarillion", but I didn't see a discussion thread for either. Are there separate threads to discuss books, or are they all discussed under that one thread?

message 26: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 490 comments Mod
I started one big thread for discussing books in general because we were all reading different things. Now that people are reading the same things, feel free to add threads for specific books. All you guys can start as many threads as you want - I really don't mind :)!

I'm actually reading Hunchback of Notre Dame right now! I've only read like 17 pages so it won't be hard to catch up to me LOL I'll start a thread for it right now.

message 27: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) The "books we're reading" pictures featured on the home page are just whatever us individual members are reading at the moment, since we all have different dusty books. :) I'm reading Silmarillion and would LOVE to discuss!

Also, came in here to say -- picked up Eragon (and the rest of that whole series) today, thanks to my sister. Let me know when y'all are ready or how you want to do this! Should we start a thread?

message 28: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (Books: A true story) (booksatruestory) | 490 comments Mod
Dalynn, I did start a Eragon thread in the books folder. I think a few people are going to start reading as soon as Monday.

message 29: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) Ah okay, thanks! Sounds like a plan. And it'd help if I checked the actual group and not just my notification emails. I do most days, but weekends are busy! LOL Headed to bed now (I hope)!! Thanks!! <3

message 30: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Yep, I'll be hopping in tomorrow! I needed to give myself a day to rest from the craziness of what I just read and all those feelings, hahah. I'm super excited to read it! :D

message 31: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 38 comments I've read Eragon but I'd love to discuss!

@Dalynn: The Silmarillion! Way to go! I need to tackle that read.

@April: You read Wuthering Heights correct? That's on my shelf so I think I'll read that soon so I can talk about it with you.

message 32: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) Wuthering Heights is on my list too for... sometime. LOL

message 33: by Katie (new)

Katie Atug (katieatug) I have wuthering heights on my shelf... its been there for quite a while :)

message 34: by April (new)

April | 570 comments I don't think you guys will be disappointed if you can weather through the rough parts! I can't wait to hear what you guys think! There's no one to discuss with yet...I was reading on my own!

message 35: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (flutterby32) | 54 comments I have read Wuthering Heights. It was a while back but I still have it! I need one more book to make my 25 goal for the challenge. Maybe I should reread it. I remember it being interesting and a little difficult in places. I am going to check what other books I have in common here.

It's fun! It'll take us awhile...because we're reading it for school (wth the kids) to make the states 'fun'! Not only learning them, but why the are what they are...it's really interesting!
I'll look for the thread!

message 40: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) I'm going to write a song and it's going to go something like this:

Take that TBR and kill it, kill it!

message 41: by April (new)

April | 570 comments NICE Dalynn! I think you're just looking at it all wrong...it needs to be something like...

Look how long I can make my TBR list, TBR list, TBR list! :) :) LOL! at least then, maybe you can boast a "mine is longer than yours" kinda thing! ;)

I absolutely love Poe, and was lucky enough to find a Complete Edition of his works in a free books bin a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to motivate myself to read the whole thing yet. I'd love to buddy read some of his stuff with you guys.

message 48: by April (new)

April | 570 comments I'm letting Thalia set the date on this one and I'm just tagging along...but the more the merrier, right?!?!

message 49: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments I think maybe we should tackle Poe a little at a time. Maybe read two or three short stories a week over an extended period and then knock out all the poems in another couple weeks? I'll probably read something between, hahah. Otherwise, I fear we'll all drown in Poe! Whenever you guys feel like starting that long, druggy task, hahah. (:

message 50: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments I'll read Shiver with you! It's on my dusty shelf and I can probably fit it in March or April, whenever you'd like! (:
