I'll throw up those I know, that I can think of.
I actually like this style of action book. To me, these are different than the horror books. These involve a monster (usually singular, or few in number) that is super powerful against the world! (or a large part of it.)
Here's my short list (It'll get longer).
Pulse by Jeremy Robinson
Event by David L. Golemon
Phantoms Dean Koontz
Midnight Dean Koontz
RelicDouglas Preston (and Child)
ReliquaryDouglas Preston(and Childs)
The Lost World by Michael Crichton
Beastmaker James V. Smith
Beaststalker by James V. Smith
Monster: A Tale of Loch Ness by Jeffrey Konvitz
Phoenix Fire by Elizabeth Forrest
Firebird by Anthony Bellaleigh
Extinct by Charles Wilson
Jaws by Peter Benchley
That Which Should Not Be by Brett J. Talley
Feel free to help me add to this, or to let us know what you like about these or other action books featuring a creature.

Ah, this will be fun. I read a book last year that was "monsters to the max!!!" I'll dig it up and post the title. Then I'll get started on "Monster Books."
And now back to our regularly scheduled zombie book!
Have a Great Day!!!
The "Creature"
P.S. OOOO! Teacher, call on me. I got one to start off with..."The Lost World," by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle."
Pleasant Screams!!!
We read lost world as a buddy read a while back. Fun classic. I think there's a review on it somewhere.
Good book to add.

Those old movies are full of action and creativity crippled by a lack of technical ability to put on screen that which we can imagine. Of these, my favorites are "Crack in the World," The original "The Thing" (Starring James Arness as the monster) and, a 1990s verion of "Godzilla!" staring Mathew Broderick and (a show stealing performance by Jean Reno as a French Special Forces/spy)
Where there are movies, there are books. If you enjoy this sub-genre of good reads, please share them with here. If you haven't thought of books like this, then maybe we can help you find one or two that are exciting for you!
