1. 'F" is for February: Read a book that starts with 'F' or a book whose author's first or last name starts with 'F'.

2. Happy Birthday!: Read a book from a February birthday celebrant's GR bookshelf whose name/nickname starts with the same letter as yours. If no one has the same letter, choose someone with the closest letter to yours alphabetically. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

3. Geography: Read a book whose author, character or setting is from Arizona.

4. Leap Year: Read a book that is the fourth in a series, has four words in the title or whose page count is divisible by four.

5. Make A Friend Day-Feb. 11: Read a book from a Goodreads friend's shelf, or recommended by any friend, or borrowed from any friend or from any RRRC member's shelf (and maybe make a new friend).

6.Valentine's Day: Read a book with a heart/candy/flowers/cupid on cover or has one of those words in the title.

7. National Weatherman's Day-Feb. 5/National Umbrella Day- Feb. 10: Read a book with either precipitation (snow, rain, mist, etc.), lightning, or an umbrella on the cover or a story where someone can control the elements or a character who has sorely misjudged a situation or character.

8. Judy Blume's Birthday- Feb.12: Read a book by this author or a book found on a banned list.

9. National Cherry Month: Read a book with a virgin H/h or a book with a red cover.

10. Reader's Choice: Read any book of your choice.

Challenge Duration: February 1 to February 29, 2012

You can choose 3 , 5 , 8 or all 10 categories depending on your reading speed, books availability and/or time commitment.

When posting your challenge progress, please make sure to put the date/s when you finished your book/s.

Please repost your progress as it helps when updating.

Happy Reading Everyone!

MountainKat | 31599 comments A couple of questions already...

For #6 Valentine's Day, does it have to be the word "flower" or could it be a type of flower like rose or gardenia? I guess that would work for candy too.

And would you call this cover red? Darker After Midnight (Midnight Breed, #10) by Lara Adrian It is reddish...

MountainKat | 31599 comments Here is a suggestion for those trying to fit Jayne Ann Krentz books into this challenge too - several of her books are set in Arizona!

Light In Shadow (Whispering Springs, #1) by Jayne Ann Krentz Truth or Dare (Whispering Springs, #2) by Jayne Ann Krentz White Lies (Arcane Society, #2) by Jayne Ann Krentz

Fran | 12278 comments @Kat, sure, a type of flower is fine, as well as a type of candy rather than just the word 'candy'.

Thanks so much for the JAK suggestions!

Reddish works. I'm totally easy and into bending the rules :)

~KarenH~ | 11344 comments Now I have a question - for #7 can we use falling snow (actively falling, not just laying on the ground) or does it have to be only rain?

Fran | 12278 comments Tina Gerow is an author from Arizona. She has a free read on Amazon right now, and if you have Amazon Prime, she has a bunch of free reads to borrow. There is a new one that looks really cute but for some reason not listed here on GR-
Hansel & Gretel's Real Estate Ventures by Tina Gerow

If anyone has librarian status, can you get it added to the database if possible? It's on Amazon and came out 1/18/12

message 18: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 4260 comments Sorry Fran, major meltdown with Amazon pulling all their records by 30 January. Best not to add any books that have dealings with them until the mess is sorted out. If her books are available elsewhere let me know and I'll add them.

message 19: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Thanks Sandra, I forgot about the temporary Amazon mess. I'll just wait until February to add it :)

Lindy (lindylee) | 260 comments How do I find them then?

message 30: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments You can look for it in the group homepage. Under Monthly Challenges folder, that month's challenges are made sticky i.e they are always first on the folder. Or you can go directly to the Monthly Challenges folder.
