Shocking but also true is Jabonkah's Liberian, childhood memoir, DRIVING THE BIRDS. Jabonkah is a bush girl of the Gola tribe when is sent to the society bush and cut like Ali but told it a fresh way.

I believe Ali mentions these books, or it could have been Jan Goodwin: The Price of Honour. Both books shocking but true.
