Week 5, good people. First month is over and I'd like to congratulate those who won their first battle! War is on.

As Yasmine did last year's, the same rules are here.

"In this thread, everyone will post their reviews/opinions of the book they have read this week AFTER you rate/review it on your page. The purpose of this is so everyone can see what you read this week and read your review without having to visit each profile. Some of you have their profiles locked, so this saves you the trouble of unlocking it.

ANY COMMENTS THAT ARE NOT RELATED TO THAT MATTER WILL BE DELETED.

The format will be like this:

Name of book.
Author.
n/5 stars.

"Your simple opinion/extended review/one word that expresses what you thought of the book. GO CRAZY! Anything counts. Don't feel pressured."

Link to your review.

Also, this allows us to be organized, so even if a member didn't log in for about a month, they can add the book they've read to the appropriate thread.

THANK YOU ALL!

EDIT:
As I've mentioned in the guidelines, one word or a simple opinion counts as a 'review'. I only called it that because Goodreads calls it that."

Now let's see your achievements, awesome people.

Freakonomics A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything by Steven D. Levitt

"Statics, meh!" - That was me when I first read about the book.

Clearly, I was wrong, very very wrong. It saddens me when I have bad idea about an awesome book!

Yeah, I don't like statics. I don't think it's that great or that fun, but this book isn't just about the statics. This book will ask questions like does your name affect your carrier or education? Interesting, right?

Levitt and Dubner did a great job! I can't wait to read their next book even though people say it's not as great as this.

The book of general ignorance by John Lloyd & John Mitchinson

2/5

Although the book had a few interesting facts, it was a rather boring read. Reading page after page of lackluster facts is exhausting.

Moayad (mtaibah) | 8 comments Got off to a slow start this year I'm afraid, but you know what they say "better late than never" :P

anyways this is my review of:
Lord of the Flies
By Peter Golding
4/5 stars

The book kicks off with a slow start that turns quite very much interesting near the end. Just a friendly hint: Try to dissect the characters and the chapters you've read and you'll find it a lot more interesting and if you're too lazy then I recommend you get the version I reviewed of the book as it has some comments and highlights at the end.

Book: Cold Kill
Author: Stephen Leather
Genre: Crime, Thriller, Suspense
Finished Date: 31.Jan.2012
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review: Great thriller and very interesting!

≈ Can't say this was 'amazing' but it's very enjoyable read. The action pace was slower which is something I missed. However, when it comes to our hero, Daniel Sheperd, we've come to know a great deal about him professionally as well as his relationship with his kid. ≈

Highly recommended

Sorry to say this, this book was extremely boring. Authers first books aren't usually good so I think I'll still read her other books.

Some anatomies of melancholy by Robert Burton
1/5

I found it very hard to understand the language, if I even understood it at all. Melancholy in those days is possibly what we call depression today.
I don't want to put you off by my review, as I'm sure there are others who are more capable of understanding and enjoying this book.

I guess most of you read the book already. It's about the journey of a boy that travels all the way from Spain to the pyramids in Egypt to find his treasure that he dreamed about. The boy meets different people on his journey and learns so many lessons. I loved how the book motivated me to find my goal in life ("personal legend" as the author called it) and achieve it. Also, you can quote so much of the book.

Haben | 8 comments Book: Catching Fire
Author: Suzanne Collins

This is the second book in the Hunger games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins. This book is just as amazing as the second book! The highly-anticipated sequel to The Hunger Games is the kind of novel that had me holding my breath a couple times. It was so good, I finished it in a mere day. It has everything a good book should: a unique and engrossing storyline; characters so thoroughly and beautifully described they start to feel like friends; a setting that is fantastically sad and amazing at the same time, and a captivating shero! This a book packed with action, romance, horror, hope, despair, love, family, politics and essences of humanity.

"A great successor to the previous books and a promise of better yet to come. A brilliant read that might have been aimed at 9yos, but I myself find it as compelling and interesting as any other, if not even better than those aimed at an older audience. A book that is enlightening even at its darkest twists. Full with magical adventures and entrancing characters. Or as VOYA puts it " A magykal tapestry of merriment" "

It made me rethink everything I had in mind about "the bad guys" in the book. I wish I had read it earlier though, so I could remember some of the details from the Twilight saga.

Suzanne Collins
4/5

I decided to read this book because the movie was coming out and I didn't want it to be ruined and because a friend pushed me to read it. I believe it was the right timing.

Basically the book is about a new country called Panem, rises in North America, and its 12, mostly poor, Districts. Each year they do a Hunger Games where 2 "tributes" from each district are set in an arena to a fight to the death match, hence the name Hunger Game. This match is shown live throughout the whole country and people are forced to match. The tributes themselves are not always willing volunteers. Most are picked through a lottery type system.

It does get depressing in some parts but I guess thats the whole idea behind the story. Suffering and then getting out of them

The book is a page turner. I read 60% of book in two days but had to pull back because of work reasons. But I can guarantee that this book can easily be read within a day without any soreness :)

Looking forward to the next two books

Twitterature: The World's Greatest Books Retold Through Twitter Twitterature: The World's Greatest Books Retold Through Twitter by Alexander Aciman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As a twitteraholic, I loved the concept of this book. And it got some laughs from me, especially the beginning. It does get repetitive after a while, though, which is kind of disappointing. And I thought some stories weren't as well-used as others. But, overall it was interesting.

PS. If you're thinking of buying this for your kid or young adult, be forewarned: it's got a lot of m-rated language throughout.
