Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I had challenged myself to read more books than last year - so the target (at the moment) is 120. This target can be revised depending on circumstances. I am not tying myself to reading any particular books or genres - I read for enjoyment, so if the book isn't living up to expectations then it will be left - maybe permanently if it is particularly bad, or perhaps to be read another time when I am in the right frame of mind.

The full challenge and List of books is here - http://www.goodreads.com/challenges/2...

At the moment I have 23 read out of 120 and am currently reading Corpse Way by Susan Parry

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Wow, can't believe you have read so many already - makes my 9 seem like nothing!

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Oh the count would be more.......I have discounted at least 2 that were full of typos etc. Both were by American authors - now I know that various words are spelled differently, and various other words have different meanings over there. But when it came to a horse giving birth to chickens that did not make since to me (or sense as I would have spelled it)

Also there are some short stories included.

And Jud has actually read more books so far.

message 7: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments sense =/= since in any type of english. thats on my par of spelling, that is!

message 8: by Jay-me (Janet) (last edited May 03, 2012 10:56AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Death Cart has a certain ring to it!

It follows the one I've just finished

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments 25/120

(& I think 8 of them are our authors)

Might start The Fashion Police by Sibel Hodge next or possibly a short story.

message 16: by Mark (new)

Mark Faulkner (markrfaulkner) | 464 comments I'm only just starting my third, or maybe second, book of the year. I'm not very fast. Well done.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I've slowed down over the last 2 days - plus instead of reading at lunchtime I've been out walking in the park (since the weather was dry for a change)
I've read a couple of fluffy freebies as a winding-down-from-work-relaxation in the evenings, I'll not count those though for the challenge.
Still haven't decided what to read next.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments 26/120.

Last night I read Project Daddy (Zebra Debut) by Kate Perry which is a freebie I got recently. Odd bits of it made me chuckle - good to have some light relief after the last couple of weeks of work.
I also read a sample of Start the Car The World According to Bumble by David Lloyd - saving up my pennies for that one now as there were a few chuckles in the sample.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I haven't really slowed down.....I've still been reading but mostly freebie fluff (or AT as I refer to it)
Plenty going on - busyish at work, Dad's birthday, their wedding anniversary coming up next month, plus practising colouring in with my new pens (I am absolutely pants at colouring in) and updating my card crafting blog.
However I did read Aefle and Gisela by Libby Malin yesterday. So 27/120.
& I have a paperback on the go as well.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments AT?

The colouring in made me giggle!

You're such a busy bee Janet!

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Patti (Mango Mad) wrote: "AT?

Airport Trash = books you don't mind leaving behind after you have read them.

I've always been rubbish at drawing/colouring in/painting. That is why my cards are generally other peoples' artwork cut out and stuck onto cards.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Don't feel bad Janet. I can neither colour in nor cut n paste. I'm marginally better than a year two student, I think. ;)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Patti (Mango Mad) wrote: "Don't feel bad Janet. I can neither colour in nor cut n paste. I'm marginally better than a year two student, I think. ;)"

I was glad when I could drop Art as a subject - it always spoiled my school reports seeing those low marks. Yes I even got 0 for one painting - because the Art teacher couldn't give a minus figure.

31/120

Busy day today - had to take the car for its MOT so quite a bit of time was spent hanging around. I'm part way through The Man From U.N.D.E.A.D. - The Curious Case Of The Kidnapped Chemist by Darren Humphries - someone said I ought to read it. I believe the author is going to answer questions from readers sometime next month.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Well done Janet!

Quite a few of the books on your list are also on mine..

:0)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Karen (Kew) wrote: "Well done Janet!

Yes.....I quite often take a look at ones that you have enjoyed, as there are quite a lot that we have both read & enjoyed previously.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments So since the last update I have finished The Man From U.N.D.E.A.D. - The Curious Case Of The Kidnapped Chemist by Darren Humphries and It's A Dog's Life Mel Comley by Mel Comley and also Dancing with the Ferryman by Frankie Valente which was a freebie, but a nice Saturday afternoon read. I want to go to the Shetland Isles now. (To see the Northern Lights which are on my "want to see list" )

I'm dipping into Steady Past Your Granny's by Philip Whiteland and started London, the Doggy and Me by Rosen Trevithick last night.

34/120

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments So I started Solitary Pleasures by Nell Grey yesterday morning, & finished it during the evening,
then read An Accidental Family by Donna Fasano

That should make the total so far 37/120.

I'm not sure on the number of "our authors" I'll have to check on that.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Well done. :0)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments 38/120

Minerva (The Six Sisters Series) by M.C. Beaton

I can't settle to a book at the moment.........I've tried and abandoned two or three after reading about 10% of them. I feel the need for a book that gallops along.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Have you read Traitor's Gate? That's quite gripping..

:0)

message 34: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The Tonic by Beverley Carter is a novella that goes at a great pace - without being hysterical. I really loved it Janet. You might too.

message 35: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I just realised I set my book challenge at 100 books this year and I'm already at 47...

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I spent a couple of days re-reading a couple of old favourites,

today I read Death in Spigg's Wood by Linda Gruchy

then a lighter freebie to help me wind down so that I'll sleep tonight Getting Gabriel

40/120

Thanks for the recommendations Karen & Ignite - I'll add them to my TBR list.

message 37: by Jay-me (Janet) (last edited Mar 14, 2012 12:38AM) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Family visit over the last few days, so we've been out and about - even dad managed two trips out; one to choose a new suite, and one to have lunch out.

I managed to read two more books - Second Chance at the Sugar Shack (Sugar Shack #1) by Candis Terry and Taking Love in Stride by Donna Fasano

42/120

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

I bought Puppy Love but haven't read it yet - what did you think of it? I've also got Nanny and the Professor high up on my TBR list but I've read so much romance lately that I might have a genre change for awhile...

:0)
