Nancy H | 561 comments Oops - listed this the wrong place, but here it is!

Here are my completed books so far, although I am not quite sure how to figure out the points for #2, Part I. I think I have it right, but if not, I can change it.

1. Chunkster tremor: 5 points for each book

2. Romance the genre:
PART I: 'Significant Other' Rec. 3 points each
plus bonus 2 points if read with S.O.
Victor by Julia Templeton - recommended and read by both of us (3 points + 2 bonus, right?)

PART II: Romance. 3 points each book.
A Lady like Sarah - 3 points

3. Country spotlight: Nigeria. 2 points for each book finished.

4. Tournament of Books: Bonus 3 points if you read books in pairs, and you let us know which one you liked better. The 3 points is for each pair, not for each book. Give yourself 2 points for each book finished.
Swamplandia! - 2 points (although I hope to read the one that it is paired with if I can get it from the library)

5. Fortune Cookie. 4 points for each book finished.

You can overlap only #1 with any other challenge.

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) I am a little confused ... do we just report our points on this forum and our list on the other forum???

My list is on the other forum.

As of 2/17 I have 21 points.

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments I haven't posted any of my books for this challenge. I have them in a Word document that I'll just copy over at the end of the challenge.

But, um, well, I have a LOT of books already. But my challenge IS to read at least 366 books this year. If I keep it up, I will have about 60 books (depending on how many of them have any type of romance in them) in my challenge folder.

Tracy Wow Ann that's great. Do you work, go to school, have kids or a spouse? As much as I love to read I don't think I could read that much. Oh I know, you are a speed reader. Either way lucky you.

message 16: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments I don't work--and my husband is also (just) retired. I have some health issues, which means that on some days I can barely move. Those are the days when I might read 2 or even 3 books, depending on the pain. And yes, I am a speed reader.

My daughter is grown and has teenagers already, so no worries about that. But I DO have my Mum that I visit every day--she's suffering from dementia and Alzheimers and doesn't always know who I am. She's also in Hospice care, so I know that I will only have her for a limited time, and even with her not knowing me, I feel its important that I go and visit with her often.

LynnB I'm just posting mine at the end, too. I keep track of my reads on my personal thread and then copy it over here when the end of the month comes. I don't think it matters how we do it, except that we should all do it at the end at least.

You can do whichever suits you. It doesn't really matter. We'll be tallying at the end.

message 31: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Ok, a quick question on the Chunksters. I just finished reading a book that was actually 3 books combined into one. It was over 600 pages between the 3 books. Could THAT count as a Chunkster? Or are they only ONE story in the book?

message 32: by Athira (new)

If you are planning to count them as one book, you can count it as a chunkster. Whatever works for you. Usually, when I read a single physical book that's actually three books (like I once did the LOTR trilogy), I count it as one book. Since the book is published both as a massive chunkster and as three individual books, it's really up to you how you would like to count them. Maybe depending on whether having read a chunkster scores more brownie points with you than reading 3 shorter books?

message 34: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments The particular one I just finished was a romance, so the 3 books counted more individually than as a chunkster. But I have 3 more books like that sitting in my tbr pile, 2 of which are NOT romances, so I'm thinking I might read one of them for the chunkster, but no idea if I'm going to be "in the mood" or not.

Tracy Well Nancy, I tried it on my son and he wanted to know what I would win if I read it. He hasn't grasped the concept of self gratification yet. I tried explaining but he just couldn't get it.

Rachel (thedoctorscompanion) | 107 comments haha that's funny Tracy!
I always feel a lot of self gratification when I finish a novel that took me a while, or that is really popular, so I know where you're coming from!

Tell him you get points from your friends on Good Reads, and if you read enough (or even if you don't but you don't have to tell him that - hehe), you get to read even more books!! That should confuse him even more!!

Tracy Nancy wrote: "Tracy wrote: "Well Nancy, I tried it on my son and he wanted to know what I would win if I read it. He hasn't grasped the concept of self gratification yet. I tried explaining but he just couldn't ..."

It would to. He is so analytical about everything. He doesn't like reading at all and I have tried everything. He doesn't understand why I like it. I have told him his grades would improve and subjects would be easier for him but he is an A student so that argument didn't carry much weight.
