Vera I have a copy of The Solid Mandala first published 1966, my copy published 1969 by Penguin. It doesn't have an ISBN listed anywhere I can find on the book.

Is there a nifty way to look up an ISBN or is it possible that this copy doesn't have an ISBN?

Jon (jonmoss) | 209 comments Try WorldCat.org. Sometimes the editions tab will have what you need. I usually go by the number of pages and/or the publisher, place of publishing and year published.

But since 1966 is when ISBNs were first introduced, it is quite possible that your book lacks an ISBN.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 2400 comments It probably does lack an ISBN and it's fine to manually add an edition without one.

What's interesting is that many of the older pre-ISBN books that I've added to GR database, somehow acquire ISBNs. It's weird. I've never removed them even though they must be associated with other editions.

Edit: Just out of curiosity, I should look up those ISBNs to see to which books they belong.

Sometimes later printings of the same edition get an ISBN.
