Félix (habitseven) As I have mentioned before on another group -- what is happening to our species? Can we blame Howie Mandel for this too?

Holy Shit. WTF is wrong with people??? Trampling people to get into a f**king WalMart???

A plague on all their houses.

message 3: by Félix (last edited Nov 28, 2008 07:43PM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) So the retailers do everything they can think of to stimulate the mob scenes, then wonder why people respond that way. We've gone so far from the supposed "spirit of the season" to where people do this shit so they can get more stuff. Just more stuff, is all it's about. What a sick joke.

I'm firmly convinced that there are way too many people on the planet these days.

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) Over-population + low mentality = lemmings

my daughter just reported to me that there was a machine gun shooting in the Toys R Us on Black Friday down in Palm Desert where she was with her dad over the holiday.

It's going to be a very weird Xmas season this year. Maybe I'll just stay home and hand make everyone their gifts.

are you suggesting that shooting someone in the face in a toy store is bad form?

message 7: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (sardonicprincessofcheerfulness) I believe they are. Everyone KNOWS that the only place to shoot someone in a toy shop is in the ass!

message 8: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell Why do people go to the stores anymore? You can get everything you need on the Internet. Including food, automobiles, and love.

LOL!!! Dave... that's the funniest remark I've seen in ages. You rock.

message 10: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Wait ... you can get love on the Internet? What's the url?

I think it's just your home page, Lori.

message 17: by Lori (new)

Lori Yeah, I used to get comments and book reviews from friends, now I only get book reviews.

Oh wait. heh. I'm an idiot. I changed my options - figured you were all tired of seeing all my blabs...

Anyway, I hadn't heard about this Walmart trampling, I can't believe the horrible randomness of this. You go to try to get a deal, maybe for your kid, and you die.

Consumerism at too fevered a pitch for me.

Actually, it was a temp worker for WalMart who got killed by shoppers-turned-angry-mob, not a shopper. Everyone was so anxious to get to those limited deals, they broke down the doors to get inside.
It's really sickening, in all kinds of ways.

message 19: by Lori (new)

Lori Yeah, this is affecting me pretty raw. It's a perfect example of everything that's so wrong with our society.

nothing that groups of people do will ever surprise me. as individuals people are generally not so bad. As soon as you cluster them they are nothing short of evil, nasty, brutish, and stupid.

message 21: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Stupid. Yeah. So, I'm wondering if that applies to discussion groups. :)

message 22: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

definitely. : )

message 23: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Well OK!

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
I think I've been stupid periodically, in relationship to groups. It seems somehow inevitable.

message 25: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I can relate.

message 26: by Cyril (new)

Cyril Treat people like rats and they will behave like rats.

message 27: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
huh. Cyril. Might you expand on that idea a bit? I think there's something there I'm not getting.

message 28: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Many studies have shown that people will do some pretty outrageous stuff while in a group that they would never do alone. We are still very much a tribal animal, methinks.

message 29: by Lori (new)

Lori Pack mentality.

Félix (habitseven) That's a perfect response, C.

message 32: by Lori (new)

Lori Larry, how many times a day do you change your AV? :D

message 33: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
OMG Larry is a ZOMBIE!!!! RUNNNN!!!!

message 34: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) As many times as I want to. So there.

message 35: by Lori (new)

Lori Oh can I steal the Homer Scream when you are done, like in an hour?

*snerk*

message 37: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Maybe.

message 38: by Cyril (new)

Cyril Years ago I remember seeing an experiment on TV where rats were placed in over-crowded conditions. They became aggressive toward one another, trampled over each other, even crushed their own young. These stores essentially create the same conditions for people that were created for rats.

message 39: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) It just ain't natural.

message 40: by Cyril (new)

Cyril So much in the modern world just isn't natural. I think that's why we have psychiatric meds.

Ahhh... yes Cyril, now I get your comment. My mom pretty much said the same thing when we were discussing it. Except she called it Pavlov's Dog. heee. I love my mom.

Cosmic Sher (sherart) Oh oh oh!!! We were just talking about Pavlov's Dog, only we are the trained ones. LOL
