S.L.J. I'm not complaining about these, I'm just curious to see if I'm right about them. I found a few errors throughout the VA books and was wondering if anyone else spotted them?

The first one I noticed was in Shadow Kiss. When Jill is first introduce she claims that she is an Air User but in the following books and Bloodlines, she is a Water User.

The Second is in Blood Promise. We're told that Strigori can use extremely powerful compulsion but we are later told that they loose all their magic when they get turned. And we never see a Strigori use compulsion again. Even when Sonja is tied to a chair in Last Sacrifice, she doesn't use complusion to try and free herself.

I'm I wrong about these or are they true? Are there more that I haven't noticed?

P.S. I have the ebook versions of the entire series. I'm not sure if these differ from that hardcopies.

Melissa I noticed these errors as well, and they're not the only ones (:

For instance in Vampire Academy, when he was talking with Rose, Dimitri said that he had two sisters, but in Blood Promise we find out that they were three (:
And in Adrian's lost chapter (the original beginning of Bloodlines), Adrian is celebrating his twenty-first birthday, but in Frostbite, when he met Rose for the first time, he was already 21.

I think there are others, but right now I can't remember...

Samantha I never noticed this but I want to go back and look now. :) I bought the whole series and in the first book there was a bunch of typos like misspelled words and the grammar was wrong.

There are actually quite a few errors in the books. I'm not sure about about the strigios, but Jill's talent was a mistake, that Mead acknowledged and said that her official talent is a water User.

Nadia Zolfaghari In the first book when Rose is being called a blood whore by those two a holes she says it's the hardest thing she'd done but she walks away but later when talking to Dimitri she says she had to be dragged kicking and screaming off Jesse and Dimitri says Kirova understood why she did it. But that didn't happen. Argh!!

I noticed both of those little mistakes and I have another one for you. In the first book Dimitri tells Rose that he only has two sister, but when you read Blood Promise he has three. Also, in the sixth book when Dimitri tells Rose that he loves her he uses that 'so beautiful it hurts me sometimes' quote again and it says that he had said it the first time when they were in the cabin together when it was actually said under Victor's lust charm. I really don't think she goes back and reads her work before continuing on. Don't get me wrong these are my favorite books but I had noticed some of the mistakes.

Gabby Well, Richelle confirmed and apologized for the Jill one and has anyone here read the Indigo Spell? Did they notice that on page 59 Richelle says (view spoiler) Yeah, look at the underlined name...SHE FORGOT HER OWN CHARACTERS!!!

J.C. I did noticed that! It drove me insane! I swear she doesn't have an editor at all sometimes. I didn't see that many mistakes in Indigo Spell--I was reading it so intently that I might have missed them--but it wasn't as involved as some of the others.

Sidrah Its my favourite series and i never picked up on that.... but i dont really think it took away from the actual book. The mistakes were VERY small and arent that important so I really dont see the big deal.

message 10: by J.C. (new) - rated it 5 stars

J.C. I agree, it's not a big deal and it doesn't matter. People make mistakes all the time and it's not like this was Twilight where there are mistakes on every page. Only a couple of mistakes in nine books is something to be proud about.

Nadia Zolfaghari I agree too they're my favourite books and I reread at least once a month but it did take me out of the story the first time to the point where I searched to see if UK and US versions different and I'd somehow got a spliced version. But not a big deal at all I love the books and notcomplaining about Ms Mead there are people whose jobs it is to check continuity.

Yeah, it's meant to say Adrian!!! lol!!

Jessica She definitely needs a continuity/fact checker person to read her books before they get printed. Or maybe just some loyal fans? It seems like we catch these errors within days of their release, but her people keep missing them...

.·:*¨ × Shannon♥Stelena&Bamon&Sydrian × ¨*: My personal favorite:

In Blood Promise, Paperback edition, Page 354. Rose backs up and sits down on the couch, it then says Dimitri sits right next to her, Then in Page 358, It says Dimitri gets off the bed and Page 359 mentions Rose still lying on the couch.

Also in Page 358, Dimitri nods and stands up, then mentions him getting off said bed and standing up.

If he already stood up, why does he need to do it again? especially if he's already off the bed?

Gabby Haha, really? I never picked it up. Lol, that's funny :)

Niamh225 Laurell K Hamilton is even worse with regard to forgetting things (especially characters) she has put in previous books. Don't authors create profiles of their characters? How can they miss important details such as the age of (recurring) characters?

As for this mistake Shannon Loving Like Woe points out...do they reread and proof their own work? And what are their editors being paid for if these things aren't picked up?

Shweta I never noticed these mistakes at all. Which is weird.

Richelle's mistakes in VA could be justified in that she was writing 2 other Adult series while writing VA, she said "Right now I have a more aggressive schedule than most authors have," said Mead. "Most (authors) have a year to write their first draft, but because I'm contracted for so many (books) right now, I usually have to write a draft in three months." but HOW the editors missed this stuff is beyond me. In her Dark Swan final book she got her character's daughter's name wrong too.

Gabby Oh, well. I guess it happens :)

Courtney Lee I don't think it was Mrs Mead's fault. it was the editors that were supposed to be the ones that looked for mistakes in the books.

I just think its funny how the fans managed to find mistakes that professional editors didn't see.

Katrina Clark I've just been reading these books (half way through the last one) and I have noticed that the guardian in book 5 called Tomas (in love with Sonya the teacher turned strigoi) in 6 is now called Mikhail. Along with a lot of other errors I would be getting a new editor/s!

message 22: by Lesley-Anne (new)

Lesley-Anne Gabby wrote: "Well, Richelle confirmed and apologized for the Jill one and has anyone here read the Indigo Spell? Did they notice that on page 59 Richelle says

Mead confuses Christian and Adrian quite a bit...
on page 268 of Shadow Kiss when Lissa, Adrian, Christian, Eddie, and Rose are practicing magic in the classroom:

Adrian and Lissa hug after Adrian is successful and Christian doesn't like that they're hugging, and then it goes on to say "Lissa and Christian had broken apart, though not because they noticed [Christian's] reaction.
"

love the series, noticing a lot of errors.. but its my guilty pleasures

Alex Did anyone notice in the 6th book the last sacrifice,When Rose, Dimitri and Sydney went to "The Keeps". It said in the book "a cute dhampir guy who couldn't be much older than me" we later find out that was Joshua. But when he brought rose in the cave to show her where he was going to live. He says to rose, "We could get married and then when we had kids, we could build a loft like my parents" but keep in mind dhmpire cant have children together.

Anna Mink How come the Equinox Dance happened in mid-to-late November when the Equinox takes place both in mid-March and mid-September?

message 25: by Rene (new) - added it

Rene All of these and more... Eddie died but is at final trials.

Gina Bowman Anna wrote: "How come the Equinox Dance happened in mid-to-late November when the Equinox takes place both in mid-March and mid-September?"

The dance where Lissa was kidnapped was in late September or even in October. Then the festival in "Hello, My Name is Rose Hathaway", was in November before Frostbite started.

Deepshe Dewett There’s another one which has always bothered me. In the start of Last sacrifice, when Rose wants to confirm if the dead queen wrote her the note mentioning Lisa wasn’t the last Dragomir, she summons the ghost of Tatiana inside the court, which should be protected by wards and shouldn’t let ghosts penetrate it.

Aurnee Katrina wrote: "I've just been reading these books (half way through the last one) and I have noticed that the guardian in book 5 called Tomas (in love with Sonya the teacher turned strigoi) in 6 is now called Mik..."

But her lover was called Mikhail from the 1st book.

Aurnee Deepshe wrote: "There’s another one which has always bothered me. In the start of Last sacrifice, when Rose wants to confirm if the dead queen wrote her the note mentioning Lisa wasn’t the last Dragomir, she summo..."

I also thought about that
