This is volume 11 of a 13 volume manga series. They all have unique ISBNs (I own volumes 10-12 in Japanese). How do I separate them, and then create the series entry for them? The separate tool won't let me pull them apart for some reason, but they are distinct volumes.

Amanda | 2442 comments I think I got them all seperated, but it wouldn't let me add the series.

The separate tool wouldn't let me separate them because someone has added volume 10 to their shelves 11 times. I'm not sure how they did this? Or this?

Ah! It's been done! Thanks, Amanda!

Is there some trick I missed to get them separated?

I'll add covers to the two I own. They need to be combined with their English counterparts, too, which I will do. I've never created a series before, so maybe I should read about that in the manual?

Amanda | 2442 comments I went in to the combine page and hit seperate for each volume rather than using the separate tool.

What are the English versions?
If the English already have a series attached, then I don't think you have to add another.

I think they actually have one copy of each of volumes I separated shelved. Once the cache clears it should be fine.

Makes sense now. Here's the English series:

I Hate You More Than Anyone #9

I'll look at a series where the English and the Japanese show up as combined editions, and then set this one up the same way. I'm not sure how they are linked -- by author, I suppose. So, the book details would need the author in both English and Japanese.

Amanda | 2442 comments The English and Japanese should be combined for 1-9. I noticed you put a note on the English vol. 10 about it never being published, that may need to be combined then deleted.

SInce it has an ISBN and a cover, and the data transition didn't remove it, I figured it was okay to leave it. It was shelved by quite a few people, too. (We all live in the vague hope that someone else will some day finish the series in English.)

I've seen similar records like this today; this one for example:

Deadman Wonderland Volume 7

I'm sure there are many like this.

vicki_girl | 2764 comments Yes, they should be left. It is useful info for people looking for info on the the series. Not all of these dropped/cancelled series have such info readily available other places on the 'net. (I tried to note as many of the lost Tokyopop items as I could find.)

Here's a good example of one that's actually gotten picked back up:

Amanda | 2442 comments Okay, wasn't sure. Got the vol. 10 combined too.

P.S.
I'm one of those people hoping most of the Tokyopop titles get picked back up (I had a bunch of pre-orders that got canceled when they closed)

I had heard that Yen Press is going to release all of Alice in the Country of Hearts.

What is really annoying, among many things, is that many of the series from Tokyopop were finished in German! The Alice Series even has a whole set of character volumes out, too.

And, Banri Hidaka was orphaned by CMX (I Hate You), and then by Tokyopop (VB Rose). I picked up VBR in Japanese, and most of Hate You in Japanese. I hope to be able to read them some day!

*Thanks for letting me vent. I'm not a big fan of Stu Levy.*

Thanks for your help, Amanda! :)

I need help sepearting my books. It doesn't allow me to do it since I'm not a Librarian. Two seperate books of mine were combined as one, Love Rubi and Spirit of a Doll. They have nothing to do with one another. Is it possible that a Librarian separate the two? http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...

Thank you! I really appretiate it! :)

Lisa | 7 comments Is there a way that Japanese versions are organized? I own all my mangas in Japanese and have noticed Hunter x Hunter, Bleach, Gantz, and many other series that I own have issues with the Japanese version not being there. (like vol. 1 & 18 may have a Japanese version, but not 5, 6, 10 etc).

Also is there a way that authors can be looked up in Japanese? Some have no info on the author, and some do, (like Yuki Kaori had Japanese & English pages, but not Togashi Yoshihiro).

I have a ton of Japanese books but it gets really frustrating when I can't add them(don't have librarian status-just applied) or they have the wrong information.Yoshihiro TogashiYuki Kaori

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Lisa, the biggest problem right now is that GR doesn't have a reliable import of the Japanese editions -- we used to use amazon.co.jp, but since we lost the contract with Amazon we lost all of that data. At the moment, the only really reliable way to enter Japanese editions is by hand-copying from publishers' websites or book in hand. :(

Usually when a librarian has worked on a mangaka with Japanese and non-Japanese publications there will be two author profiles, one in English and one in Japanese, and they'll be linked to each other in the author bio. The Japanese editions will also usually all have both versions of the name listed as the primary and secondary author slots. In that case you'll be able to search on Japanese titles and author names. (There isn't yet a way to have one author profile which comes up when you search for either name, but we're still hoping someday to have a feature like that. In the meantime, two linked author profiles is the way to go.)

If you want to type up the information for a librarian to work on, you can always start a new thread under "Books Issues" or "Adding New Books" with the details. I know we have several librarians who specialize in fixing up manga book records (I spend a lot of time on it myself). You can also work on it yourself once your librarianship comes in -- you can also always start a new thread under Book Issues asking for other librarians to help you with a project like this.
