So this topic is for discussing the books you're reading Now, be they dusty or clean. It's second purpose is to reccommend books to other people.

Anyway.. yep!

For example, I'm reading Cinder!

Elaine (lanybum) I'm currently reading The Descendants by Kaui Hart Hemmings. It's in the cinema at the moment with George Clooney.
The Descendants A Novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings

Haven't seen the movie but sounded like an interesting plot so thought i'd give it a read. Half way through so far and it's pretty good. Quite funny and rather touching. Also, it has George Clooney on the cover :-D

(I don't know how to get the books' picture on here!

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (flutterby32) | 54 comments I would definitely recommend The Tale of Despereaux, Tiger Rising, and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. She writes young adult and children's books. They are all fairly quick reads but with a lot of story in them.
“There is nothing sweeter in this sad world than the sound of someone you love calling your name.”

Thanks for starting this Hannah! I am reading the Hunchback of Notre Dame :) Very dusty. Wanted to read for about 6 years, bought it 2 years ago and haven't read it yet. It's actually really good. Much easier than Les Mis.

I like Hornet's Nest :) What you do is, above the reply box on right is 'add book/author', click on that and then type in the book (make sure, at the bottom of the search list that comes up you select 'cover' instead of 'link') and that'll show up in the reply once you select the one you want :D

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) Can I ask everyone to please list the title and author of the books, and not just post the cover photo. It's a little hard to read the titles on most of those.

Thanks

I'm sorry you're having issues reading the title, but could you please not order people on here what to do. Some people enjoy seeing the covers of books as well and, myself included, like to brighten up the post with a good picture (heck, sometimes it's the cover of a book that draws me in). There are politer ways to get your point across without the need to order and then capitalise, underline and put the text in bold. Thank you.

An idea might be, if people wish, to please put the book title & author as well as the book cover with the link. An example:

'I'm still reading The Pillars of The Earth by Ken Follett
The Pillars of the Earth (The Pillars of the Earth, #1) by Ken Follett and really enjoying it at the moment.'

If you pass your mouse over the picture of the cover, a little popup with the title, series name and number, and author comes up. (: Does that help?

For instance, the one I just posted reads:
"Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate"

message 29: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) | 491 comments Mod
Oh wait - is that what was meant - the title on the book photo, not the pop up? Okay, yeah, just hover the mouse over and it appears.

message 30: by Thalia (new)

Thalia (thaliaanderson) | 359 comments Oh, I assumed the title on the photo, since the popup text is just as large as the text in posts?

Hayley .. I didn't order anyone to do anything. I asked if people could please do this. It's a courtesy to other members.

But there's no requirement to do anything ... including participate

message 42: by Rod (new)

Rod C. Cohen | 12 comments I'm new here and hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes, but I read a few pages of Coelho's, Winner Stands Alone, found it grotesque and stopped reading. I read all of Solar, Mc Ewan, and well, the language was lovely, but I didn't enjoy it. And then I downloaded 22 Brittania Road and A tree grows in Brooklyn, and they are both such a pleasure to read. I highly recommend both of them.

message 43: by LiLaboti (new)

LiLaboti | 70 comments hi Rod.. i am currently reading winner stands alone...and on page 257 at the moment... i can't believe you stopped reading it.. !! just push through the first few chapters.. i can guarantee you that it's a great read... Coelho definitely has a different view towards life.. and for some reason i find this alternative way quite attractive...non-judgmental... hope you like the book.. (that is if you choose to give it another go.. ) >.< cheers...

message 44: by Rod (new)

That is on my TBR list. I saw the movie and just had to read the book. In my experience the book is usually better.

This one is a reread for me, but I remember loving it! (:

message 50: by Dalynn (new)

Dalynn (dalynnrmc) I'm reading The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells by H.G. Wells and going to quickly follow up with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson by Stevenson.

I'm also reading some non-fic, mostly religious teachings. One is a chapter-a-week kind of thing, which is the ONLY reason I can stomach reading two at once.

And then in our homeschooling I'm reading Old Yeller by Fred Gipson to the middle boys. We're reading three chapters a week on Mondays; one Monday to go!
