Two Truths and a Lie
question
Who do you think the murderer is?

After this book, it's a toss-up for me between Ethan (revenge for the scholarship which he admitted he had not got over) or Laurel. What do you think?

It is Ethan. It is so Ethan.
the obvious clues are that he ran away when Thayer arrived at the Mercers' house at the end of the book (because he didn't want Thayer to ID him from running him over), and he wants revenge on Sutton for messing up his science scholarship, and personally I think he was a little bit in love with Sutton and killed her out of jealousy that he couldn't have her (sorry, speculating a little here, but that's what I think).
but here are the two less obvious clues I picked up from the book: first, Emma noticed Ethan had a pair of black climbing gloves on his nightstand when she dropped by his house for the first time. GLOVES, people. that would explain his fingerprints not being on the steering wheel of Sutton's car, and I don't think Sara Shepard just wrote that little detail in without thinking it over.
And secondly, towards the end of the book Emma mentioned that the threatening notes from Sutton's killer stopped after the night of the dance. I think that was when Ethan realized he was really falling in love with Emma and so decided to stop threatening her with those notes. I think he did kill Sutton but is now regretting it and he just wants Emma to continue pretending to be Sutton so that this murder stays covered up forever.

It has to be Ethan or Mr. Chamberlain. Ethan because of how he knew it was Emma, but then again I can't see him killing anyone. Mr. Chamberlain because he is always brought up but really isn't a character in the book. All we know is that he was in town when he shouldn't have been. But what would be his motive? Either way he has some purpose in this series. Laurel is not the killer though, she's just what Shepard wants us to think who did it right now, much like Melissa and Ian in PLL. I really don't want to think Ethan did it, and Garrett could still be a suspect but probably not. I'm not sure how Shepard is going to wrap this series up in 4 books because there are a lot of loose ends.
But Laurel had an albi, remember? I never actually thought of Ethan. He just seems like too much of a good guy to be doing this. And he got mad at Emma, right? That would be getting totally rid of her, unless that was his way to try to go unnoticed. But I think that the murderer is probably Mr. Mercer, as strange as it is that he would kill his own daughter. But if he found out that Sutton had a sister that was in foster care, he would know that she would be much better mannered, and overall a better daughter, (no ofence, Sutton!), and he just did it.
I know it's going to sound like this is coming out of left field, but I'm kind of suspecting Char's dad, Mr. Chamberlain.
By-the-by: does anyone have any idea how many books there will be in this series?

I feel like Sheppard is just leading us on with the whole Ethan thing. Especially in this book. She's dropping all these hints about him, so people think its obvious. But I would like to say she's smarter than that and would not insult our intelligence by copping out and making Ethan the killer. I mean, with every other suspicious character she made them sound super suspicious then gave them an alibi. I feel like in the next few books they'll be new characters introduced. There has to be like fifty million other people Sutton's pissed off with all her pranks.
Ever thought that there isn't a killer???
That maybe Sutton just tripped and felled to her own death?
That how ever tried to run Thayer over was just after him, and left when he saw Laurel pick him up and left?
I don't know why, but I think we will be shocked!

I really don't want it to be Ethan- I like him! And I don't think it is him, because I think Shepard needed to create a character that Emma can talk to about Sutton with; someone to provide more theories.
At this point I think it might be Mr. Chamberlain. But why?
I think it also might be someone we don't even know yet, kind of like (WARNING: PLL Spoiler) Ali had a twin, and everything was all backwards like that. Sara Shepard didn't give us any plausible clues to the PLL mystery, so I think that TLG will be the same way.
Also, try this:
Ever thought that Sutton isn't dead?
I think she probably is dead, but you never know. Maybe she is playing a Lying Game on Emma.
You might ask, "But Sutton narrates the books and says she is dead. So how could that be a prank?"
Well, maybe Shepard took it to the next level and had Sutton play a Lying Game on US, the readers as well.
Just a thought...

I think Laurel for sure, she just always bothered me, and she could have easily snuck away from a sleepover... she always has given me the creeps
Right now I feel that ALL dads are acting weird and also Ethan seems suspicious . I can't wait for the next book!
I don't even know. Her books have a way of surprising me no matter what I think (Pretty Little Liars). I don't want it to be Ethan though...
I bet it's ethan...he's just too nice and believing if you ask me, either him or one of the mercer parents. i don't really think laurel did it.
Laurel maybe, i'm not sure about Mr.Mercer though. What would his motive be? As for Ethan, I never really thought about it. Now that i do though it is a huge possibility, and maybe when he rushed off @ the end he felt guilty? Idk but it's hard to guess with the author.
I think it's Ethan. It's just too convenient how nice he is.
I think it's Thayer, Mr. Mercer, Ethan. I think all Sutton's friends were involved somehow. On Second though... Nahhhh. And,......that's all!
I think Ethan did it. No real evidence to suggest it, but how come he is the only one who noticed Sutton isn't Sutton when he hardly knows her. Her friends and family on the other hand haven't figured it out. He conveniently figures out she is someone else, and is going to help. If he were the killer that would be a great way to keep tabs on Emma. It's just to odd otherwise.
i think its laurel b/c she was in love with Thayer and blames all of her problems on Sutton.
yea, I was thinking about Mr. Mercer as well, and why does he hates Thayler that much ? Was it only about drugs and alcohol?
Lauren make me suspicious too. Eh that book is really good.

Well, I haven't finished this book but from reading all the comments and getting half way through I think that it could be... Ethan, Laurel or Garrett?
Ethan
Although we can't rule out Laurel or Mr. Mercer either as of now
