Darlene (lovebirds) Did you enjoy The Unbearable Lightness of Being? I have it on my "to read" list.

message 46: by Lisa (new)

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments It was interesting! The stories between the characters were good, if a trifle complicated since they were intertwined. It was his veering off into philosophical tangents every so often that threw me a bit, but if you take the time to read those too, they make sense & give you more insight into the characters. :)

I'm halfway through Far From the Madding Crowd by Hardy now, & about 20 pages in to both The Jungle by Sinclair & a historical fiction novel called In the Company of the Courtesan, which takes place in Rome. Of the 3, finding The Jungle the hardest to get through...

Lisa, did you like Blonde-Joyce Carol Oates?

message 50: by Lisa (new)

Lisa James (sthwnd) | 259 comments Andrea, I really did, even though it was a fictionalized memoir, I felt it touched on enough that was true in her life to make it FEEL like a real biography. I mean, of course it was sad because we all know how tragically she ended up, but it's well worth the read...
