I read a mixture of genres; right now I've been reading a lot of YA and sci-fi. I haven't been a redditor for long, but I love the /r/funny page and now I'm really enjoying the book reddit. I look forward to seeing what you all are reading!

I'm a long-time Redditor but a newbie on GoodReads. I've been on a sort of reading hiatus since I started traveling, but now that I have an ebook reader I'm back to devouring as many books as possible. I read a little of all genres, but my favorite is fantasy. Feel free to friend me if we have some books in common, I've been finding a lot of good recommendations from going through people's favorites.

I generally love sci-fi, historical romance and *used* to like fantasy, but kind of disillusioned with it now. Trying a bit of YA but struggling to find any decent ones to be honest - any recommendations are welcomed!
That's all for now - feel free to add me and share your book recommendations or reviews.

Even though I'm definitely a book nerd, I find going out and exploring the world and experiencing everything I can in life has increased my reading enjoyment and comprehension tenfold. When you really start to understand the fear and uncertainty of hiking a ridge line during a thunderstorm. Falling in love and out of love. Walking through a crowd of strangers in a foreign city where you don't speak the native language. Culture shock. All of this experience will come back to us when we read a book and it draws us in more. Those are my thoughts anyways.
I guess I had never really though of setting a certain number of books to read each year. I just kinda read whenever.
I looked through everyone's books briefly, and I have recommendations for a few of you (sorry if you've already read them, I didn't look through the entirety of everyone's list).
Drew:
You might enjoy a book called "Lord of Light" by Roger Zelazny
Kate:
"Otherland" by Tad Williams (it's a mix of Sci-fi and Fantasy)
Tracy:
I have two recommendations for you, both of which were coincidentally turned into rather mediocre movies. "I am Legend" and "Jumper".
Kristin:
You might enjoy a series of books called "The Dresden Files". It's a popcorn type of book series, but fun.

I've been reading avidly since I was a kid. I mostly read classics - particularly philosophy - nowadays, but I have a stack of modern fiction waiting for me too. I love me some sci-fi and fantasy, especially if they deal with thought-provoking questions or are based on hard data/historical precedences. Other than that, I am a classically and jazzically trained musician who normally listens to and plays progressive and death metal. :D

Thanks for the recommendation. I like to follow heavy books up with easy reads. I will definitely look into that series.

Thanks Ethan -- I think I tend to avoid books after they're turned into mediocre movies, which probably results in me missing plenty of good books.

Coolio, I will check it out! :)

I read a lot of different types of books. I used to read only fantasy when I was little, but have since branched out to different genres. I'm rereading Harry Potter for the billionth time right now, and my current non-fiction interest is Ancient Astronaut Theory.
As for myself, I read a lot of fantasy/sci-fi, and have been meaning to get into some noir. Although, if anyone is interested in starting a book club, I'm pretty much up for whatever.
I haven't been a redditor too long, but enjoying seeing a lot of the interesting small sub-reddits out there.
Happy reading!
