BTS Book Club discussion

I want to read this before the movie comes out. My 12 year old daughter has read all 3 and gushes on how great they are and why haven't I read them yet. I was a little hesitant to read this though. I mean, I'm not sure how I will feel about babies slugging it out gladiator style!

I was planning on reading this before the movie as well, so this will be a nice incentive to actually getting it done! LOL

LMAO You know I've actually had these books for such a long time I'm scared to actually read them as well.

I saw a really bad movie once that was along the lines of fighting/killing each other to win. It was all criminals and broadcasted live on the onternet. It starred the WWE wrestlers that's how bad it was!
I'm praying this is completly different.. I've heard good and bad things.. Silly me accidently bought the 1st book twice lol hoping to start in this week 'cos I really want to see the movie!

I got this one from Amazon Prime's lending library. I've been looking for an excuse to read it.

Hello Lovelies, I read this book when it first came out and I can tell you I still remember every bit of it like I had just read it. I had initially wrote a longer review when I first read it but I changed it because I had got into an argument with two political idiots so I changed it to read:

I highly recommend this book to everyone. This is a great example of what dictatorship is like and real close to a form of socialism and it saddens me that this kind of thing is what is coming to our own country (USA) with all the idiots we have in our political offices. This was a great book and it was one I couldn't put down.

This author does a great job with the connection of the characters. Even though it is about young kids and there is death in this book, the author has made the characters who die in the games into like bullies and so when you read what they do and all the mean stuff they do - when they finally get killed you are like actually rooting the others on. This book is awesome and shocking.

The second book in the series is ok too but the third book I had to scan through till the last two chapters until it got good.

I'm currently reading the first one and I have to say that is amazing! Once you have started the book you will not put it down! The words really flows and every chapter you finish you want to know more about the next one (: It's a good idea to read this series all together before the movie comes out

I hope there not trying to cram 3 nooks in one movie!!!!

I've read the trilogy and really enjoyed all three books. Looking forward to the film coming out and it is only based on the first book. Too much goes on in each book to condense it into one film.

I would like to rip off that stupid wig and shove it in her mouth. Can people really get into watching babies kill each other. BARF... sad part is I could see people getting excited, distancing themselves that these are kids and very human. They'll justify to themselves and make it OK.

Ohh boy! guess I'll start it when I'm done with the audiobook I'm listening to now, since I have it on audio :)

I can't imagine listening to a book :) My attention span to those talking to me isn't so good. I thought about that on a long car ride though.

Thank goodness for that. I had a flash back to "The Queen of the Damned" Movie. uggggggggg

From the momment I started reading THG I was hooked. So many questions that are unanswered. I'm dying to know, no pun intended! Katniss is a wonderful heroine, spitfire comes to mind. Who is this Cianna really? What's. with the red headed Axons girl. What role do they really play? Why did Efie. have to be almost human?

I actually donloaded an ebook of THG for myy little sis... After reading the discussion, I guess am gonna have to start reading it too, tomorrow. :)

Its killing me! I want to know what the Panem people are thinking. obviously, they are rooting fog K And P but are they disgusted by the others actions? Oh Rue!!! I cried, tears were rolling. I'm sniffing on my couch, hating on that bleep! This world is horrible!!! Down with the Capital!!!!

I finally started it yesterday at 4:30... At 10:45 I finished it! I do say that I "can't put it down" with a lot of books, but literally I could NOT put this down.. I HAD TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! I read it while I was on the train, walking to my car, as soon as I got home, while I ate dinner You name it!... I LOVED IT! I had purposely stayed away from reading reviews, wiki, imdb etc so that I didn't know what happened as I wanted it to be a surprise!..
I can't wait for the movie now!

I started audio late last night and Im about 25% will be doing some more reading tonight. I CANT PUT IT DOWN!!! Of course I have to but as much as I can Im glued to it

On pg. 163/378 Wow. The game has begun. The tone of the work changes now. I'm not sure I can put this book down tonight.

I read until my eyes were blurring. Around 5 am I believe :)

Me too!! I had such doubts when I first started this book. But so glad now. I want to read the last 2 also!

I have to wait for the next two, because I have other things "scheduled" to read, but I'll be reading them soon! I think it's an amazing series and I wasn't expecting that with all the hype

I couldn't put this book down either. The Hunger Games really takes you to a different world-One where children must compete in an arena for their lives. The characters are very well written. You feel like you know them personally by the end of the book. The plot gets very exciting even though there are conflicts they all get resolved as I feel they should. I would definitely recommend reading this book before the movie comes out. I cannot wait to see how they adapt this book for the movie screen. I have already read catching Fire and about to start Mockingjay.

I can't wait for the movie either!!

I finished today. Now I can't wait to see the movie. I think my kids would enjoy it but then again I am not sure I would want them to see it if it's true to the book. I was a bit uneasy at first with the 1st person telling but I got settled right in. My heart bleeds for Rue! Though Katniss is the true star of this story, Peeta was my favorite character. I thought of him a hero and noble. I'll have to sneak a peak at the 2nd and 3rd books to see if the story continues with Katniss and Peeta. Overall I enjoyed the story and loved the character development- I gave The Hunger Games 5 of 5 stars on goodreads.

I finished the book, very good writting, compelling to read, but I find it disturbing. As I said it was compelling, can't put down book, but the subject of children being forced to kill for the sins of the fathers is wrong. I want to read the other 2 but then I don't.

My boyfriend said the same thing about the killing issue when I was telling him about it.

I got my tickets for opening night to go see the movie!!! ;) Can't wait now, I'm happy I read it!!!!

I had similar concerns (children killing for the sins others) But then thought "would it be any less wrong or appalling of a notion if they were young adults or even mature adults?"

Also pictures flashed though my mind from TV showing young children holding rifles and other weapons in various foreign states and then to children in my the US who have made the news for nefarious acts of child killing child. And still I was compelled to read this book and once I started found it hard to put down. And I already borrowed book #2 :-)

Will I see the movie when it's released? Yes! Will I let my children see it? I don't think so, not at least until I see it first and understand how graphic it is. In my mind I think "Even though it's just a story and just a movie, and they probably see worse from clips on the evening news" This is something I would want to pre-screen before I allow them to view it, even with it's PG-13 rating.

Lastly, from my adult "parent-neutral, moral-neutral, fantasy loving" perspective, it was one hell of a book!

The only reason i read this book was because of the BTS book club discussions.I was hooked from the beginning and promptly read the following 2 books in the trilogy.
I agree with a lot of views discussed ,but please read the others as lot more is revealed.

I read the Hunger Games. I believe this is a serious subject dealt with in a serious way. I also believe it has many deep meanings and this is evident also. It should not be taken lightly, no matter what one thinks at first glance.

Anyone else notice that North Korea reminds you of Panem?

I am on Mockingjay now. Since I am still an Amazon prime member I have been fortunate to read this trilogy for free as they are all in the lending library.
