There is a new poll for members of the group. It's totally optional -- I'm just interested in the makeup of the group. You can find it at the top of the polls page, or at this link:

DavidO (drgnangl) Erk, I guess I'm a stay at home Mom.

:snicker:

Maybe that selection should be 'Stay at home Parent' :)

I never intended it to be so difficult to answer this poll. It doesn't have to be that specific. But I guess I wasn't taking into account who the group members were. You're all trained to be very precise, aren't you?

Olga A sigh of relief from my soul! A group of people who like precision... Feels like home...yeah!

Brit Cheung | 1 comments I am a student majored in IR studies and fascinated by scientific stuff, biology and pharmacology in particular. but don't know much.

message 8: by Sue (new)

Sue | 3 comments I'm an avid reader of all things pertaining to medical science, as well as history and general nonfiction . Had I not become a journalist, I probably would have gutted out (notice the wording) medical school and opted for a career as a physician. Instead, i read about doctors.

message 9: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Hi Sue - I'm a fan of the same genres. I would love to hear any recommendations you have. I'm a public health/ infectious disease researcher and think that in my other life I would have become a journalist. ;) I really enjoy investigative journalism in particular.

Lol. I suppose so.

I majored in Biochem in College because it interested me. I worked a few lab jobs but it wasn't for me. I know work in a related field but I am no longer in the lab.

I really do love it though. If it weren't for the pay I might consider teaching.

I'm big on educating those around me about basic biology and ethics. I'm really big on ethics. The field I am currently in is more about ethics than the biology of it all.

Mystic Orange (Rumell) (rkrespectedmember) I am a A-level student of Biology, Chemistry, Psychology and Sociology.

Chemistry is favourite. Then it is Psychology because they are so interesting.

Rebecka | 1 comments I'm "just" interested in science/math ;) My BA is in International Law and International Politics and my MA is in Middle Eastern Studies. I wish I was a neuroscientist.

Candice | 43 comments I don’t see my category, either. I teach hands-on science lessons to kids in a park setting. It’s great to watch them discover nature and learn to appreciate it!

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 744 comments That's a neat job, Candice. I loved doing stuff like that with my kids & their friends. Kids really get into it.

message 15: by Candice (new)

Welcome to our group Hanna!
Science and art -- wonderful combination!

message 18: by Matt (new)

Matt | 1 comments I am a Millwright Tradesman. I am most interested in chemistry, physics and general sciences. Most people view a millwright as hammer swinging foul mouth who are the jack of all trades. I view it as being a doctor of machines and an astute detective of the industrial world. It involves being able to solve problems in sometimes very complex systems and we are payed very well for it.

I have many passions. My academic goals are very much part of my own independent studies. I would love to go back to school for something to do in chemistry. I'm currently studying Mathematics (Algebra II so far) to work my way up to calculus to learn physics and chemistry.

I think this quote summarizes my values toward learning and the sciences.

"He who graduates today, & stops learning tomorrow is uneducated the day after." - Newton D. Baker

To be honest, I want to surround myself with like-minded people that I can share these passions with and most are very much university educated.

Hi Matthew -- welcome to our group!
Yes -- go back to school in chemistry, or some field that you are passionate about. Since you have an exploring mind and an engineering detective at heart, that would be great for you!

Nancy Mills (nancyfaym) | 489 comments Welcome Matthew. You sound like a great addition to our reading group!

Dal Cecil Runo (dalcecilruno) | 1 comments Hi everyone. I am just a blind science fiction (and other genres) writer. I love reading whatever I can get access to, but I’m here because I want to learn from the book recommendations by people who work in science fields instead of just guessing around and picking whatever book that may or may not be actually educational. I can’t contribute much, I guess, unless anyone has a question about the blindness spectrum… but I’m here to listen. Yes, listen. My text-to-speech will read the threads of comments for me. 🤣
