Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) Don't Breathe a Word by Jennifer McMahon Don't Breathe a Word by Jennifer McMahon

On a soft summer night in Vermont, twelve-year-old Lisa went into the woods behind her house and never came out again. Before she disappeared, she told her little brother, Sam, about a door that led to a magical place where she would meet the King of the Fairies and become his queen.

Fifteen years later, Phoebe is in love with Sam, a practical, sensible man who doesn’t fear the dark and doesn’t have bad dreams—who, in fact, helps Phoebe ignore her own. But suddenly the couple is faced with a series of eerie, unexplained occurrences that challenge Sam’s hardheaded, realistic view of the world. As they question their reality, a terrible promise Sam made years ago is revealed—a promise that could destroy them all.

Lindsay♫SingerOfStories♫ (lindsaysingerofstories) I read this book at the beginning of February and I really enjoyed it. At first, it really creeped me out because it was my first monster-under-the-bed/creepy-faces-popping-up/bump-in-the-night book I've really read and it was way more suspenseful to me than I thought it would be (I love horror movies and suspense novels)...but I was pretty determined to get through it and I'm glad I did. It was a book that I really didn't think I would enjoy much. I thought, "Fairies? Really?" but seriously, I ended up liking it a lot. It was a really nice mix of fantasy and suspense and it kept me questioning everything--the characters, the motives, etc.

Overall I gave it 4 stars.

Here are my responses to the discussion questions: (view spoiler)

Christine K I am obsessed with this book. I got it from the library in case it would win (even though I voted for ILofHL) and started reading it while I'm waiting for the other book to ship from B&N after it won. I'm completely hooked on it. I told my DBF not to laugh at me for reading a faerie book (I went through a small phase when I was younger lol) but I'm burning through the books so quickly, it's really good!

I'll finish it tonight and come look at the discussion questions.

How do you hide what you post if it contains spoilers??
