Cheers. You all read so many books. I'm hoping to read for an hour or so each morning & night. Should be able to knock out a few books each month.

I managed to finish Fallen & it's sequel Torment this week.
I've moved on to Passion Passion (Fallen, #3) by Lauren Kate hoping to get the trilogy finished over the weekend. So watch out, a review of all three will be coming up.
St Paddy's is tomorrow, so I'm gonna pick up St. Patrick's Day Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery #14) by Leslie Meier & have that back to the library in no time!

It's dropping reasonably quickly. I started around 1700 when I first added it, about a month ago now. By the time it's my turn, I might be ready to read it & my list of 200+ TBR's will have decreased.

message 8: by Darkpool (new)

Darkpool | 1032 comments Auckland Libraries have over 200 copies, so no surprise it's dropping quickly.

I wonder if paying for a library book is cheaper than paying for a new one?
I remember having to pay for a book at my highschool library. Got it out for a Social Studies assignment. One lost book about Chocolate cost me $30. It wasn't the first book I had lost but the Public Library didn't charge me as a child. I told myself not to get books out from a library again.
I now get at least 10 books out every month!

Ok... so going to Uni for the first time really mucked up any personal reading. Time to catch up in my "study break". I can cross of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I finished that a few weeks ago. I have the Order of the Phoenix on the shelf ready to go.
I am over half way through Fifty Shades of Grey everyone was talking about it & I had to see what the fuss was about. So that should be finished soon enough. It's hard to put down.
Then I'm gonna read Fallen in Love because I've got that out from the library & it needs to go back soon.
I tried The Boy in the Suitcase. Some of the language made it hard to read but I will attempt to pick it up again towards the end of the year when I have heaps of time on my hands.
I forget to keep an eye on my holds at the library and I lost The Hunger Games because I set the date to close. I've reset it with a hold cancel date of some ridiculous date next year. Hopefully I can read it by then!

Ok, Study break over!

I managed to finish a few books
Fallen in Love (Fallen, #3.5) by Lauren Kate Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James The Lost Days (Emily the Strange Novels, #1) by Rob Reger 500 Poses for Photographing Brides A Visual Sourcebook for Professional Digital Wedding Photographers by Michelle Perkins

& started a couple more books
The Bone People by Keri Hulme Moonsong (The Vampire Diaries The Hunters, #2) by L.J. Smith

& I picked up way too many from the library that I will never get too...
Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater Twitchhiker How One Man Travelled the World by Twitter by Paul Smith Un Lun Dun by China Miéville Street Dreams by Tama Wise

I have just realised I've only finished 4/12 books for the BLK's group read challenge.

DONE:
Nowhere Girl by A.J. Paquette King Matt the First by Janusz Korczak As the Earth Turns Silver by Alison Wong and The Ghost of Young Nicks Head

STARTED BUT GOT TO FINISH :
The Boy in the Suitcase by Lene Kaaberbøl The Bone People by Keri Hulme

I HAVE AT HOME:
Guardian of the Jewel by LaVerne Clark Un Lun Dun by China Miéville The Sweet Second Life of Darrell Kincaid by Catherine Robertson Dinner at Rose's by Danielle Hawkins

That takes me up to 10 books. Only 2 more to find.

CURRENTLY READING:
Shiver & I'm almost done. Will add the sequels to my 2013 TBR list. Yes I have started a 2013 list already.

and I still have 3 Harry Potter re-reads but they are a breeze because I like the story so much.

I have cut the Twilight rereads from the 2012 list. If I can get through all of these then I will consider them for holiday material. Probably pick them up after the Breaking Dawn Pt 2 premiere because the movies will spike my interest again!

Wow a lot has changed since I last posted a couple of months back. I now live in Gisborne. I have been to the Public Library here once so far. It's only been a couple of weeks & I needed mail to become a full member. Tomorrow I shall become a full member and be able to get out more than 1 book at a time! They have a small collection which I will do everything I can to make the most of. Some of their collection are free, and others you have to pay $1-$2 per book. Not happy about that. Might as well start buying the cheap e-books!

COMPLETED
Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater The Sweet Second Life of Darrell Kincaid by Catherine Robertson Un Lun Dun by China Miéville

My first book from Gizzy library is Marked (House of Night, #1) by P.C. Cast Marked by mother and daughter combo. I think there are 10 books in the series so I hope Gizzy get them all.

oh no. I'm up to book 4 but I couldn't find books 5, 6 and 7 on the shelves. will have to check their online catalogue. The House of Night series is really for the younger teen YA audience but I like vampire/witch stories & had to see where this one goes.

Sharlene (sharlenehuriwai) | 595 comments Mod
I picked up The Twitter Diaries The Twitter Diaries A Tale of 2 Cities, 1 Friendship, 140 Characters by Georgie Thompson at Gizzy Library. I think it was a new book, felt like I was the first to read it. It's the connection of two 30-something women who met once at a bar & have built their relationship over twitter. Check out my average review here http://sharlenesmith.wordpress.com/20...

message 22: by Darkpool (new)

Darkpool | 1032 comments any luck with the House of Night series?

message 23: by Sharlene (new)

Sharlene (sharlenehuriwai) | 595 comments Mod
I've read the first four House of Night & the two Novellas. They only have one copy of each in Gisborne so I'm waiting for the next couple of books to return in January. The Vampire school makes an interesting read with Fledglings going through a number of years (like a NZ school) if they don't die in the process. The language used is simple & youth terms, so for the younger audience.

LaVerne Clark (laverneclark) | 195 comments Cool! I see you got to read Telesa - what did you think??

message 28: by Sharlene (new)

Sharlene (sharlenehuriwai) | 595 comments Mod
Hi LaVerne, yep I read Telesa. The book itself looks really long but once you get past the first couple of paragraphs which feel slow & uneventful, the story blossoms. It's a YA love story with a cultural mystery twist to it. People call it the Pacific 'Twilight' but I wouldn't even compare it. No vampires or wolves! It's more alchemical with an all women coven who have element affinities. I've got book 2 on my list to read!

MARCH is New Zealand Book Month. I'm trying to keep shorter novels for Dewey's 24 hour Readathon in April (24hourreadathon.com) so my March reads:-

Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2) by Maggie Stiefvater second in the Shiver trilogy

I'm going to get stuck into War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy , might start sooner. At least get 50 pages under my belt. It's gonna take me all year to read the rest!

I want to unsubscribe from my audible account so they are all on my list of listens:
Life of Pi by Yann Martel A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations Two Novels by Charles Dickens Up Till Now by William Shatner Shiver by Karen Robards Unbearable Lightness A Story of Loss and Gain by Portia de Rossi and Tim Curry's A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

APRIL is Catch up & surpass my wildest dreams month! I am a few books behind according to the 2013 Goodreads Challenge. I had a few books on the go earlier that I never finished.

I did finish Linger so I've got the last book on my to read list, Forever.

I never started War and Peace. It's just so scary looking. But I have 7 months to finish it!

I started Up Till Now and am over 25% through listening to his autobiography. I really do wanna cancel my account but it's taking forever to listen to them.

April also is my chance to participate in Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon. It's later in the month & my chance to really kick my reading into gear. Check out the link & take part with me.

I might add The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance 2: Love Bites to my readathon list. Short stories will probably be my best friend.

I've got a few books from the library out too,
Re-draft Cupid on a Friday Night
Rapture
The Soloist
Goddess of Legend

I finished Rapture during the readathon which was great but that's all I finished. I had work commitments during the day so now I know for next time to take a day off work. Hopefully there are no other events on the same day. Praying it won't be on 11-13th Oct cause I have a youth camp that week!

Where did JUNE go? How did I miss a whole month of not posting? WHOOPS!
Might be because I have been super slack on the reading front. It has taken me a couple weeks to finish Revolution Earth. I am getting lost in the small stories within each chapter. I'm up to the Antarctica section and is it really necessary? Hopefully I can make it to the end.
I did finish Hidden (House Of Night, #10) by P.C. Cast (Hidden by PC & Kristin Cast) the other night but I'm a stickler for finishing a series that I start. No wonder I read Harry Potter and Twilight books so many times.

I told myself to read A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin this month because it's not very often my husband reads a book and I wanted to converse about something he is interested in. I got it out from the library and it's HUGE. The e-book is so deceiving!

I am 14 books behind on my 2013 challenge. The pressure is on!

I have a Book Fairy!
She is bringing me great joy and it's gonna be a brilliant start to August. I am so excited!
I am adding about 10 books to my ipad tonight. To name a few series:
There is No Light in Darkness (Darkness, #1) by Claire Contreras There is No Light in Darkness
&
Damaged (Damaged, #1) by H.M. Ward Damaged
&
Slammed (Slammed, #1) by Colleen Hoover Slammed

I have started A Game of Thrones and have buddied up with my husband who started it awhile back and is a fair way ahead that I am. But I will catch up! It's great being able to discuss a book with him.

and amongst all of these, I want to knock off at least one book off my Languishing Literature Challenge & Bookshelf Dweller :)

2014 Challenges
My goodreads challenge is to read 100 books. I didnt quite make that for 2013 so I'm aiming to succeed this time around.

I'm taking part in a number of challenges to help me reach my target, including setting a number of Book Lovin Kiwis monthly reads of 12. That's at least one book a month! I should be able to manage that :)

Rewind Challenge allows me to read all those older books on my shelves including the boxes of YA I bought from Gisborne Library. There is nothing new in that box so they should all fit this category!

Read Your Freebies is being hosted over at Book Vixen. Self explanatory, read all those free ebooks I get off Amazon!

Lastly a Book Bingo Challenge where I can have fun and see if I can complete the Bingo card. It's a series, standalones, different genres... might help get me out of the YA/NA addiction.

Theres other Bingo Challenges I want to do too, but thats just adding to my already challenging challenge!

For more details and to keep up with my progress, check out my 2014 Reading Challenges page http://sharlenesmith.wordpress.com/20...
