Fair Game (Alpha & Omega #3) by Patricia Briggs

This thread is to discuss Fair Game. This thread will be marked for spoilers for one month. After that, readers beware.

Book Description:

They say opposites attract. And in the case of werewolves Anna Latham and Charles Cornick, they mate. The son-and enforcer-of the leader of the North American werewolves, Charles is a dominant alpha. While Anna, an omega, has the rare ability to calm others of her kind.

Now that the werewolves have revealed themselves to humans, they can't afford any bad publicity. Infractions that could have been overlooked in the past must now be punished, and the strain of doing his father's dirty work is taking a toll on Charles.

Nevertheless, Charles and Anna are sent to Boston, when the FBI requests the pack's help on a local serial killer case. They quickly realize that not only the last two victims were werewolves-all of them were. Someone is targeting their kind. And now Anna and Charles have put themselves right in the killer's sights...

Christine I can't wait to get to this book! I should be picking it up from the library tomorrow, but I can't start reading it until next week. Then I'll join in the discussion.

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments I finished the book and it is fabulous! My favorite in the series! I cannot wait to discuss it! :)

The ending was brilliant!

Oh and finally an (view spoiler)

binter | 19 comments I loved the first 2 books (and the short starter story) but didn't really love this one.
I was drawn to the development of the relationship between Charles and Anna and also Anna's development overall. I didn't really "feel" either of those in this book. It was almost as if Anna's character was too "bad ass".
On the plus side, we did get a good deal of Charles/Brother Wolf's inner workings.
And, as Regina said, cool ending with some juicy potential.

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments Oh I am sorry you didn't love it! I really did, but I see what you are saying. I really enjoyed what was haunting and burdening Charles. That was written so well.

Christine Hmm...I can't wait to get to this to see what I think!

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 297 comments I enjoyed and loved this book too Regina. And I didn't see Anna as being too "bad ass" just showing that she had over-come the abuse and was trying to be strong and help out her mate. LOVED Asil's tiny part in this story too.

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments I agree, I don't think she was too bad ass at all. She wasn't able to accomplish many things physically she out to -- (view spoiler) But I do think she was much stronger than in her books before and she has seemed to master being an omega.

Asil was awesome. I would love more of him.

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I thought it was fantastic! I'm still trying to write a review that will do it justice. I think we saw a different side of Bran in this one too, the more protective side (the scene where he gets PO'd when he thinks Adam's pack won't take care of Mercy, and at the end when he looks in on HIS son and says "sleep, I'll protect you".) Just wow.

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments I LOVED those parts Sherri, thank you for the reminder. And then when we got to see the inside view as to why Bran didn't raise her. I always wondered that.

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments I was just saying this to friend, I know many of us want Bran to have an HEA but he truly has more than any other werewolf. He has two living sons who are both werewolves and he is mated so his wolf side is satisfied. It may not be perfect, but I can accept that.

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) Yes! I had too and now I understand more of Bran than ever. I so wish he could have his own Happily Ever After with someone besides Leah.

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments I do too. But I don't think it will happen, but we can hope.

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I can see a story for him that would work, but I don't want to hog this thread with that. LOL Such an awesome book. I may have to read it again today. LOL

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments I am buying the audio and doing a re-read that way -- right away.

Monique (kadiya) | 6 comments Sugar! The book is out! Must go get.

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments I just saw this timeline posted on Patricia Briggs's website: http://www.hurog.com/forum/index.php?... It is a visual timeline of all the mercy and alpha books.

Monique (kadiya) | 6 comments Regina wrote: "I just saw this timeline posted on Patricia Briggs's website: http://www.hurog.com/forum/index.php?... It is a visual timeline of all the mercy and alpha books."

Very good to know. Thank you.

binter | 19 comments Regina wrote: "I am buying the audio and doing a re-read that way -- right away."
Regina, is Fair Game available in audio yet?

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments Yes! I saw it on audible.

binter | 19 comments Arrrggghhhh! I have to come up with a better way to find out the release dates on audiobooks.

I bought the e-book because I didn't see that the audiobook was out yet. Now I'm going to get the audiobook too. (money money money)

Thanks for the info.

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I was just reading another GR's member review of this and she called herself a "Bran hussy". HAha! That is so me, especially after this book. Just posted my review if anyone wants to read it.

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments It is very odd because they are no pre orders for the audio books. How frustrating!

Loved your review!

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) thank you!

Nefertiti (bluebreeze) | 2 comments I love this book! And the ending was just WOW! I swear I'm usually able to communicate better, but Fair Game has reduced me to a tween fangirl.

I wish I had waited to read this because now I'm not sure I can maintain my sanity while waiting to see what happens next. Can the fae survive a war with the humans? Can the humans survive them? Will Bran have to pick a side? I must know!

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments And what will mercy do?!!

I was so angry at the humans. I find it hard to believe they would just let him go knowing he raped and murdered children and adults. I do not blame the fae. I would be furious! I think the fae will survive. I think humans are in for a world of hurt. I just hope the werewolves will not have too many casualties...........let's see how Mercy and Adam fare!

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 297 comments Well, they didn't exactly say that they were going to WAR. Just that they were going to treat with the U.S. as a hostile nation. I'm thinking that things might be kind of like the Cold War era--only with a LOT more magic.

But yeah, I'm going NNOOOOOOOO, its going to be FOREVER before we get to the next Mercy book. And we have to wait, and wait, and, oh yeah--WAIT!! Talk about cliff hangers.

Emily | 24 comments I know Mrs. briggs is contracted to one book a year! It is torture! Didn't books used to come out faster than 12 months apart? The last mercy book was in 2010 wasn't it?

I totally agree with you! I really enjoyed the book and can't wait to see what happens next.

She says she is going back to two books a year - she had issues these past few years.

Where did you read that? That would be so awesome if she went back to two books a year!

Regina (reginar) | 110 comments Did you see the thread in this forum about an interview of Patricia Briggs - -I think I saw you had posted in it? http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/8... In the interview Lady D links to, it is an interview I conducted with Patricia Briggs and she states that in the interview. The link is in the thread.

Dawn (dawnv) | 16 comments I just finished this one and while it was good it was not what I expected if that makes sense.

I wonder if this will truly be the last Alpha and Omega book. I know she mentioned she has a wild card to publish any story in the Mercy world, but I would not want to end the series like this.

Outside of that this book was really very UF which works for me because while I think PB is an awesome writer she leave a lot to be desired in PNR. Anyway I liked that Charles found himself beyond being Bran's killer. I also liked the new characters which I think we will see in the next Mercy book because it takes place in Boston as well.

SheLove2Read (sherrih95) I think we'll see more of them.

I am greedy I need another book LOL

Emily | 24 comments I am greedy too. I love this series!

Denise (Ducky) (DDuckyDuck) | 7 comments I really enjoyed listening to Holter Graham narrate this series. He gave this story a lot more passion and emotion. I have loved him since I heard him read Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Check him out (he's cute too!)

binter | 19 comments Denise, I loved his narration too! I see that Acheron is book #15 (gasp!) of the DarkHunter series. Could it be a stand-alone or would I be better off tackling the series in order?
(I typed and posted this message earlier today but it seems to have disappeared. Apologies for the duplication if it re-appears.)

Carolyn F. Regina wrote: "I just saw this timeline posted on Patricia Briggs's website: http://www.hurog.com/forum/index.php?... It is a visual timeline of all the mercy and alpha books."

Love the timeline - my daughter wants to read the books and I really think she should read both series.

Carolyn F. The book was fantastic. I almost wish I had never read it because I could start all the way from the beginning and just be wowed all over again. One of my top 5 authors.

You totally need to read those in order.

I always read in reading order. I like to go to Fiction Database (fictiondb.com) to get my reading orders. I have only found a few mistakes in all the series I have looked up. There is also fantastic fiction (fantasticfiction.com) Their pages are a little flashier but it's the same idea and info (usually). I think anyone needing to find a reading order could make good use of either of these sites.I am sure there may be more sites out there, but these are the ones I use.

On another note: after looking up Holter Graham yesterday (to find a pic to post) I found out that he has spent the last couple of years or so fighting leukemia (and still been working as much as he could). If you love Holter, check out his blog http://grahamkemia.blogspot.com/2010/...

His ongoing story and strength are incredible. It makes me love him all the more.

Christine I finally started this book! Finally. Only fifty pages in so far, but I'm enjoying it. I like the way Anna and Asil and Adam (hmm, that's a lot of As) finally got through to Bran and he's come up with a way to help Charles. I can't wait to see how the werewolves interact with the government's alphabet soup. And how the government responds.

I gave my daughter a copy of Moon Called. She is totally hooked now! Just watch she is old enough for the rape scene in Book 3 or 4. Once my daughter started she stole all my books!

Anna | 53 comments Still waiting so I can get the pretty US covers in the UK :(

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 297 comments Poor Anna. Don't you have a friend in the U.S. that can/will send them to you as they come out? That's what we did (only other way around) with the Harry Potter books. Wanted only "the real deal" for those. (Well, my daughter did. I haven't read any but the first one for reasons that have more to do with what was going on in my life when the first one came out than anything to do with Harry.)

MissSusie | 11 comments HaHa I too am a Bran hussy..love that!I wanted more Bran too but maybe with the big things happening he will make an appearance in the next Mercy book because from what I understand this story arc from the end of this one will have ramifications in the next Mercy book!

Nikki | 67 comments I finished Fair Game yesterday and immediately thought that I can't wait for Frost Burned so I can see how that bombshell that was dropped at the end will play out! Can't wait!
I thought that Patricia Briggs, as always, told an amazing story. I love the insights into Bran (who doesn't love that werewolf? lol) and the scenes with Asil. I really enjoyed it!
