Patricia Briggs was very generous and spent alot of time answering questions. I was sad to hear we won't have a Bran book but knowing there might be a short story with him is nice to hold on to.

She seems like a real sweetheart. I can see why I connect to her books so well. We value the same things in a story.

Me too. It is funny because she capture my thoughts perfectly - if being a were or a vamp is so perfect why wouldn't everyone do it then? There are several urban fantasy series that I have read and enjoyed (but not loved) which had this element but lack of balance. Briggs' stories never lack this balance. There is a cost to being a supe and her supes are monsters.

Very true about the balance. Also, the realness of her characters. That shines through in her books, and that's what draws me to urban fantasy. Of course, I love the fantasy, but I also like the everyday mixed with fantasy.

Her characters have so much heart. In "The Price," I think that her heroine does exactly what a reasonable, good-hearted woman would have done. I feel like that when I read any of Briggs' books.

Ooohh, I didn't catch the connection (slight though it is) to Andre Norton's Year of the Unicorn Were-riders. But since reading the interview, I can sort of see a tiny bit of the same connection that Patty writes in these books. But I think that she took the connection that the Were-riders had and totally amped it up and changed it a LOT. (Yes, I have read Year and most of Andre Norton's other books, as well as everything that Patty has written.)

Lady D, you are right. Anna and Mercy just seem to fit into real life, despite being what they are. I liked how she said she wants readers to believe that her characters continue to have a real life even when we aren't reading their stories. I really enjoyed The Price.

Well, in my opinion reading Andre Norton is ALWAYS good. I'm a little bit of a Norton FANatic. :o) I own like 98% of what she's written, many in multiple covers. And Andre wrote a LOT. Her first book Prince Commandswas published way back in 1939. And her last book came out 2 months before her death in March of 2007. (Yes, I AM a major geek fan-girl.)

And she wrote EVERYTHING--sci-fi, fantasy, romance, historicals, mysteries, children's books, non-fiction. . . EVERYTHING.

Ann, you are lucky that you have most of Andre Norton's books. Most of them are hard to find and out of print.

Does anyone know (Spoiler may be in post) whether Mercy is immortal or will have a longer life span because of her father? Since she is married to Adam, who has a long life span, I just thought maybe something happened to her. I don't want her to grow old and die and leave Adam!

Emily, I would guess as a coyote shifter, she will have a longer than human lifespan herself.

I am hoping! Especially considering who her father is.

Er...die with her or life goes on? I am pretty sure I read this, but I could be mistaken.

No he can't just commit suicide because she dies. I always think that is just silly.............and if I were the female or male who was dying I would smack them for thinking that. Love comes more than once sometimes........especially after centuries........

That's what I like about Patricia Brigg's writing - she doesn't candycoat the downsides.
For all these long-lived beings, it's hard to have a happily ever after. Fall in love with a human - humans die. Have children who are human (which is your only option) - humans die. Chose someone who is also very long-lived, you better be darn sure about it because you'll be with him/her for a VERY long time.

Sam, in some ways, and Bran too, are the poster children for this, oh my poor Sam! I'm hoping he becomes the poster for a HEA with a long-lived being too ;)

I am searching to find out where Briggs said that and can't find anything. I did find something from last year that says she doesn't know how she is going about a coyote shifters lifespan.............. So maybe she is undecided still.

Thats were I found the quote where she said she is no sure about the coyote shifter's lifespan.....

Well, Mercy is not just any "normal" coyote shifter, since she's the only one who is a direct child of Coyote. The others are just grandchildren (times many). So, what effect does THAT have on her lifespan? Yes, Coyote is NOT a god, but he IS immortal. So, does an immortal demi-god father a child that is also immortal--or at least long lived--or does he father a "normal-life-spanned" sort of human?

I hope since Charles was warewolf born and special that Mercy will have a longer lifespan due to her coyote parent :)

As to lifespan, I am guessing -- just based on how Briggs writes and what she said in the interview -- she will do what she feels right for the story and what makes sense, rather than trying to make characters happy. I think that is what makes these books so good, but it also leaves me sad for some characters - -like for Bran, Samuel, and Stefan. Mercy has been aging and did she say she looked like she was in her late 20s or ealry 30s? I don't remember.

And I know I said about her father was Coyote, but he fathered her in the form of a human being -- I wonder if that has an effect. I could see Briggs believing that if Mercy can have children and give Adam more Children that this would be a trade-off for a long life span. I am not saying I love it! Just that it would make sense in Briggs' world.
