That was the idea. If you have a better one, feel free to throw it out there...I was just trying to avoid having one or even two huge discussion topics with everything jumbled into them.

Welcome, Judith! It's great to have you get involved. No need to wait for anything. The "synthesis" topic is posted when we start reading, so add away. What is strange for you about the "discuss as you go along" format?
Book suggestions will be taken and voted on twice during the month prior to the commencement of the new text. For the first round of polling, everyone who so desires will post the title and author of one book under the topic entitled, "[Insert month here:] Book Suggestions)."There will be a round of preliminary polling, followed by a second round in which the top 2-3 books from the first round are voted on. The majority vote for the second poll will be the winner. In the event of a tie during the second round, two books may be chosen.
Each book will be divided into sections in order to aid comprehensive and coherent discussions. You are welcome to follow the schedule for having each section read (if one is created) or read at your own pace and post at your leisure according to the sections you have completed. If you finish the book after the group has moved on, feel free to keep posting!
The sections under each book title should house items pertaining to that section specifically. They can sometimes house items UP TO AND INCLUDING that section, but for general comments, questions, etc. after finishing the book, post in what will always be the final topic, "Synthesis." This arrangement avoids the problem of seeing unwanted spoilers.
Example thread:
FOLDER NAME: Jimmy Buys A Red Balloon
TOPICS:--Pages 1-50
--Pages 51-85
--Pages 86-117
--Synthesis
THINGS TO AVOID DOING:
"Seconding" someone else's book suggestion for the polls. If something you would have picked happens to show up, just wait for the poll(s), and vote for it.
POSTS UNRELATED TO BOOK CLUB PICKS:
You can also create new topics for things unrelated to the books for general conversation, etc. I might create new folders for those as they appear or rearrange them into the current folders, but yes, you are at liberty to discuss other things.
NOTES:
Your moderator is not out to get you. I want everyone to have a good time, but for that to happen, a basic understanding of these rules and of manners is necessary. If you are unsure about something, just ask first.
