Dalton | 16 comments I agree that all claims need to be evaluated in light of "does this make sense" and note any exceptions that may pop into one's mind. I would agree that there is an awful lot dragged forward from the past that in light of today doesn't make sense. In the case of neuroscience, one could say that for "those who study the past are bound to repeat the past." It's easy to get indoctrinated by influential thinkers and past authorities. Neuroscience has been stumbling around in the dark for centuries and it is so complex that interpretation is inevitably biased by your experiences be they good, bad, right, or wrong. Education demands that we learn a lot real fast without the process of fermentation and assimilation that gives what we learn meaning, yet the indoctrination influences our judgement and interpretation.
