Natalie | 149 comments This is going to be pretty vague--
It was a YA fantasy/sci-fi book that was published probably in the last 20 years, um...not sure of the author. It wasn't like a comedy-chicklit type of thing.

Set modern-day, (no medieval) and the main character was a girl.

Sorry, I'm not much help.

Miriam | 40 comments Perhaps Tithe? I've never read it but it sounds like it would match your description.

message 3: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 149 comments No, I don't think that's it...

Thanks though.

What made it Fantasy/sci-fi ish? And what did the girl do? Was it something to do with her schoo? Family? Friends? Something going on generally in the world?

A. J. (spiderbread) | 9 comments Wicked Lovely? The Faerie Path? Both are pretty dark, iirc.

message 6: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 149 comments It might've been the Faerie Path, I'm not sure. Definitely not Wicked Lovely.

Also, it might not have been "faerie" it could have been "fairy."

Well it was fantasy sci-fi ish because, well, she was a fairy. More general, I guess?

I haven't actually read the book - it was a book that I found at a bookstore that I didn't buy and now I want to find.

message 7: by A. J. (new)

A. J. (spiderbread) | 9 comments You're not thinking of Artemis Fowl by any chance? Main character's a boy, but the name might have thrown you off.

Natalie | 149 comments A. J. wrote: "You're not thinking of Artemis Fowl by any chance? Main character's a boy, but the name might have thrown you off."
No, Artemis Fowl's one of my favorite series. I'd never have forgotten it. :D

Gerriane (gerri_berri) | 30 comments do you remember the story line or blurb or cover picture?

message 10: by Emily (new)

Emily | 140 comments How to Ditch Your Fairy comes to mind.

Do you remember approximately what year you saw it in the bookstore?

message 11: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 149 comments It was more YA, and it wasn't like realistic fic or anything. It was like a pretty, elegant sort of cover. I'm not sure what color...pastel, though.

message 12: by Clare K. R. (new)

Clare K. R. (clare-dragonfly) | 55 comments Are you really sure it wasn't Tithe?

This is the cover I have: Tithe (The Modern Faerie Tales, #1) by Holly Black

Charlotte | 5 comments Could it be The Iron King? The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa

message 14: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 58 comments I think maybe the Iron king too. But if not maybe Fairy Tale by Cyn Balog , Eyes Like Stars (Théâtre Illuminata, #1) by Lisa Mantchev , My Fair Godmother (My Fair Godmother, #1) by Janette Rallison , Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby , or Spell Hunter (Faery Rebels, #1) by R.J. Anderson .

message 15: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 149 comments Possibly the first Fairy Tale you listed? Not the others, though...too chick-lit.

NocturnalRavings(Jodie) (mistrissmoon) | 4 comments Maybe The Hunter's Moon (The Chronicles of Faerie, #1) by O.R. Melling ?

message 17: by K.V. (new)

K.V. Johansen | 18 comments I was going to suggest, like the person above, that it might have been something from O.R. Melling's Chronicles of Faerie series.( O.R. Melling ) There are four books, and the first ones were published in two different editions, the second quite revised and expanded, and with very different covers from the earlier versions, so depending which one you saw, you might not recognize it now from the cover alone. The first three are set in modern Ireland and the fourth in Canada; the heroes are all modern girls who get involved with the hidden world of Irish faerie.

No, that's not it. I've never heard of that. If I see it, it'll ring a bell.

Charlotte | 5 comments Can you remember anything else about the plot? Do you remember the cover?

message 20: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 58 comments Oh, it's not chicklit. Sorry misread there. Perhaps Blackbringer (Dreamdark, #1) by Laini Taylor ?

There is a 'YA Faerie' list. Maybe you can find something there if you haven't looked already. Usually it's not successful but it might be worth a try.

Looks like a cool author, but not the one I'm looking for.

message 27: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (viciouslittlething) it's not Wings (Wings, #1) by Aprilynne Pike Wings but Aprilynne Pike. it's a pastel themed cover and the girl finds out she's actually Fae/Fairy.

Natalie, are you still looking for this book? Was it anything mentioned from post 29 on?

message 36: by SparksofEmber (new)

SparksofEmber | 957 comments While we wait for Natalie to reply, I have another suggestion. Wondrous Strange by Lesley Livingston? Wondrous Strange (Wondrous Strange, #1) by Lesley Livingston

message 37: by Bobbi (new)

Bobbi Romans (bobbir) | 1 comments I think her name was Melissa Marr, and she did one about a girl, who met the fae king. His mother was Winter Queen or something like that. He had to marry, though he loved another, to defeat his mother. I remember she had to grab a branch and not be killed to prove she was new queen.

Can't remember the name.

Also, Anya Bast I think had a series surrounding fae that centered around a girl.
