I'll start it after I'm done with Galway Bay. Maybe next weekend? I'm looking forward to reading it with you!

OH....I just got through with the first part...and I really like it! At first it was plogging through the wedding but once that was over...I'm really getting settled into the families and who they are and how they are connected...so far...pleasantly surprised....what do you think Jenni?

I'm enjoying it! I'm 40-50ish pages in... I feel like it's going to be a bit of a soap opera type story in getting the marriage arranged. I enjoy picking it up, but since I can't sit down and ready a hundred pages at a time, I have a feeling that I'll be relying on the relationship tables at the beginning of the book.

I know that Sonja hasn't gotten a chance to start yet, but she's going to start asap. She reads faster than me anyway, so it should work out for the best.. for me anyway!

Oh yay, the kids have swimming tonight, so I should have 30 minutes to just read!

I can't wait for dinner on 4/20!! My old student employee is still planning to sit for us, so it should be a fun, relaxing time! (Even if she falls through, we could always grill out at my house, or go out with the kids. We'd be eating off of paper though... I don't want to have to do tons of dishes the night before vacation... hah!)

:)

NO KIDDING...and paper is what we use here...LOL!!! I'm so excited for all of us! I was wondering if your student employee might also sit for us on Saturday after the final session? Probably for only a couple of hours. Juan thinks the guys might want to meet out for a few drinks. We never stay out late and the next day's matches are even more important so it shouldn't be a late night. We would pay her of course...if she can't, I'll just stay home and Juan can meet the guys...I really don't have to be there. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Hey Pam, I'll check with her! Unless she has plans to be out of town, I'd bet she'd do it! :) I'll send her a text here in a bit, and will try to catch her later today! :)

I'm ready to start this one! I'm looking forward to reading it with you guys. I read on a different site this morning that he's writing a sequel "A Suitable Girl" to be published 2013!

I think I sent both of you a recommendation this morning, but I think both of you would like Galway Bay. I got it as a first reads book and loved it! I was bawling at the end. It was awesome!

THANKS SONJA! Galway Bay sounds awesome and I've put it on my TBR list. Might be a great one to read for next year's list huh Jen? So far I am really liking A Suitable Boy....

How far are you in A Suitable Boy Jen? I bet Sonja will catch up to us in no time. I'm in like the third part of Part 2....Maan is being a naughty boy...LOL!!!

I started last night! I'm liking it so far, but I got thrown a little bit by the long description of the friend's back story (I can't think of her name right now, but it starts with an M...). It felt odd to me since she wasn't a family member, but I don't know where the story is going, so who knows!

Argh, you got ahead of me!!! I'll get caught up!

I'm around page 100 in this book now, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. On one hand, I feel like I'm starting to get invested in the characters and want to know what happens to them, but on the other, I feel like I'd be happy to just put it down and walk away from it. I don't know... I'll keep reading! I do like it!

I'm kind of the same way. And wow, I'm not a fan of Meenkashi (Is that how her name is spelled? I can't remember!)

Anway, I'm hovering around page 110.

Guess what!? I think I'm going to get a nook today! At $89, it won't take long to pay itself off... and if I'm not entirely sold on it, I have enough points on Amazon to get something else for "free." We'll see!

Pam, do you have the nook? I know that Sonja does.

I love my Nook!

I agree about Meenkashi (if that's how you spell it...)! I wanted to shake her when she thought earrings were more important than family heirlooms! Though I thought the way her husband broke the news to his mother was a little insensitive...

message 19: by Jen, Super Spunky! (new)

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Me too! I wanted to slap them both! Oh, and the way that Meenkashi views and treats her daughter... Oh, I'd love to strangle her!

message 20: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
OMG....MEEEE TOOOOO on Meenkashi and her hubby. Despicable. I'm still seething about it. Jenni....strangle away! I do have a nook. I think I'm going to have to put this book on it for the trip to Iowa City. I'm NOT carrying this book to the Trials in my bag THAT'S FOR SURE! BUT....strangely enough...I do like it. There are times I want to walk away but then I think about Lata and Maan and I MUST know what's next....hmmmm......what was the name of that coffee bar in Shantaram....Blue Danube? It was mentioned in this novel too...just in brief....

LOVE LOVE LOVE Shantaram. Might just be my favorite book EVER....

I haven't been able to find an electronic version of this book... I wanted to for my trip to MO this weekend, but i didn't find one. Let me know if you do! I'm interested!

Pamela | 238 comments Mod
I'm a total idiot about things like that but when i googled A Suitable Boy...an ebook option came up...does that mean we could put it on our nook or kindle? I'm going to ask my hubby to help me with this when he gets home...Or maybe even get it on my nook from the library.

OH....and about the NOOK. Yes...I broke my eReader again...and though we could have gotten it fixed my husband decided I needed to try another machine. SO....he got me a nook. I still miss my eReader....sigh. BUT....I do like the nook!

Jen (nekokitty) | 913 comments Mod
Hey you guys! Wimmie and I haven't been able to find an e-version of A Suitable Boy... I found a study guide/summary for it, but no book. Pamela, do you have the link? I'd be interested in checking it out! (I haven't googled it yet.)

I do prefer the page turning options on my Sony... but the page turns are so fast on the Nook! The first few times, I actually thought that it was broken because I didn't even notice the turn! Oh, and the eInk is much more bold and easier to read in a darker room. I wonder how it holds up in sunlight. The Sony faded in the sun, but at the time all eInk devices did.

I do still love my Sony, but my first impressions of the Nook are very favorable! I'm officially ready to head to Florida!

Oh Pamela, I do think that the Blue Danube was mentioned in Shantaram!

I made it to section 3 last night! Wimmie helped me look, and we can't find any electronic copies of this book. :( I guess I'll just see how much I can accomplish before Florida, and take a break from it, and use my nook for other books!

I'm so bummed, I have my awesome new Nook, and I can't even put the book that I'm currently reading on it. A new toy and I can't use it!! Argh! (Well I do take it to work, but I haven't had a chance to read there this week... not that I usually do...)

I haven't read this book in a week! It felt a little overwhelming to try to read this and survive tax season at the same time so I switched to something smaller (The House I Loved). If I only read 10 pages every night I still feel like I'm making progress instead of drowning in a huge book and only reading 3-4 pages every night. I'll get back into this book in May! I really want to read it and hopefully I'll be able to catch up at that point!

Sounds good... so I think I'll just see how it works out for me since I'll be pretty busy the next two weeks, and I won't be taking this on vacation with me. I'll start hitting it hard by April 30! :)

OK...back into it again...they could make this one into a mini-series like Shogun in the 80's. ALMOST to part 3...

I'm still at part 3. :) I'm going to come back to this book right after we get back from vacation, I promise! :)

OK....I know I'm farther than you guys on this but I am going to take a break. I just got to Part 6. I'm going to read A Game of Thrones for a little sabatical....which I think won't last too long...

I haven't given up on this one yet! I just haven't been reading much at all lately (too little ability to concentrate...). I don't think I want to lug this big book through airports with me, so I'm planning on getting back to it after I get back from Germany on the 25th.

I've gotten all involved with the Game of Thrones books... :( So I haven't been putting much time into Suitable Boy either.....but I do MISS it so that should be a good thing. I am determined to start it up again after I get done with Clash of Kings.....

I'm almost done with the second Game of Thrones book... and once I finish it, I think I'm going to hit A Suitable Boy again. Hopefully I won't have to backtrack too much in it. :)

If Jenni has the Game of Thrones books for e-reader and gives them to me before I leave, I might have to try to read them on the plane. (hint, hint...) I'm kind of looking forward to getting back to A Suitable Boy as well. I kind of want to know what happens!

Look at the lot of us! Here we are reading The Game of Thrones and it's all incognito! I'm halfway through the second book of it....and I KNOW that Jenni has it on her eReader because it was on the flash drive that I got from them....which by the way, is AWESOME!!! Wim and Jenni....you guys ROCK!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to try to get in another Iowa City trip by the end of summer for all of us....YAY!!!
